Work is relatively slow today, so I've been perusing around www.nbcolympics.com for good stuff about the games. I decided to look at the list of all athletes, since there's a few biathlon people I know personally since I live in a major training location. Dustin Byflugien is on the list of athletes for men's hockey. I'm assuming this is just a website error? Based on the couple articles about the selection process, I don't even think he would even be considered a roster alternate in lieu of injuries.

Though going out east would make it significantly easier for me to attend, I'd rather they play the gophers.
-
You're right. It's really only about 6 miles, which makes it even sadder.
-
I used to live in Colorado Springs, so I know what the games usually pull for a crowd (though the statistics they release for the attendance is a straight up lie). I said it half in jest, half in reference to the pathetic one or two rows of students who typically comprise the student section.

Maybe it'll grow to be like the Beanpot for fans.

I get that, and I know they wouldn't have beaten all those places had it been regularly priced tickets. But I bet a lot of schools couldn't get that many people in the door for women's hockey even if it were free.

Brad? Is that you?

According to Schlossman, last night's UND-UMN women's game outdrew 20 of 24 D-1 men's games, 7 of 8 OHL games, and over half the AHL games. Absolutely awesome.

Krushenylski is decent, though his production is way down from his sophomore and jr seasons. I think CC is just so used to having a Schwartz brother or Brett Sterling or Marty Sertich or Peter Sejna over the past decade, and right now they don't have any of those stand-out players.

I would love to see the USA women come up with gold. That being said, unless you're the gopher's women program, it's incredibly difficult to win that many games in a row against a competitive opponent (and arch rival at that). I almost wonder if it would have been better had they lost that last preview game to Canada.

CC 'fans' don't even travel the 20 miles from campus to World Arena.

Western is well known for it's lively atmosphere (The Lawson Lunatics), though Lawson only holds just under 3700.

I definitely agree that it would slow the game down, which is not ideal. But I still think it's necessary as having to kill a 5min major (and losing the player if it's CFB) can be just as or more significant than a goal in terms of changing the course of a game. That being said, if a player is going to writhe around on the ice for 20 minutes, you could easily do the review simulataneously.* Take Andrew MacWilliam, for example. If I recall correctly, during his senior year, he got ejected for 2 CFB. Had he gotten a 3rd CFB penatly, it would have resulted in a greater DQ than just the rest of that game (I think it's one extra game). But upon replay, all but the most biased of reviewers would have admitted that neither penalty actually warranted the CFB penalty. That's a pretty big deal, because it's not like those penalties can be scourged from his record after the game. *I mean this in absolutely no disrespect to players who are legitimately hurt and struggling to get off the ice. I remember snapping at a CC fan for yelling at Genoway to 'get his pathetic ass off the ice' after getting injured. Considering Genoway didn't play the next night (and certainly didn't score on the ensuing power play), he wasn't faking it.

MafiaMan, you are once again the last person to comment on every thread! The forum page is completely covered with your monikor and avatar!

Haha I'd actually posted the video a couple days ago (a couple pages back in this thread), but it got lost in the arguments about fan bases. I was surprised no one had commented on it, since it kind of seemed like a big deal.

Some festivities after the RPI vs Union game Saturday night. Even the coaches decided to join in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-AzBqb1h1g

The Slovakia hockey jerseys have the words of their national anthem on them (the thin stripes are actually the words written very small). How is that ok but 'We the People' isn't? -
I'd be very surprised if one of those three doesn't take the whole thing. If all three get in, it'll most likely be the one team that gets placed in the other bracket.

Pretty cool story about David Glen missing a few games for Penn State cause he's donating bone marrow.

Ha. Hak with a Blais move, pulling Saunders with just under 6min left to get a 5x4.

To be fair, Brittain was the NCHC Goalie of the Week this past week, so it's not like he was playing crappy and it's only our shortcomings that are making him look good. He legitimately has been playing great lately.

Surprised that Ausmus is in again tonight instead of rotating with Thompson. Same lineup as last night.

The thing I don't understand in regards to the Loney hit is why injury or time spent on the ice is a factor in determining the severity of the penalty. Just because someone is able to pop back up after a check from behind doesn't mean it isn't worthy of a major and game misconduct. Likewise, just because someone is in (apparent) extreme agony doesn't make a little shove a major. If there's debate on the severity, it should be discussed/reviewed right away with no weight given to the extent of injury.

A sweep at Magness is a tall order, especially with the streak DU was on coming into this series. I would love to be wrong, but I just don't see UND pulling this one off. If I recall correctly, there's only been one series at Magness in the past ten years when these teams did not split. In that one series, DU swept (with some serious assistance by the refs) despite being outplayed, and that Sunday was not kind to me.

Though I don't always agree with the commentary, I like reading the "Wednesday Women" feature on USCHO, as it makes it easier to follow what's going on out east. I think it's a pretty cool sign for this program that whenever the writers mention "The Big 3" in the WCHA, everyone knows that means Wisconsin, Minnesota, and North Dakota. Hard to imagine that being the case just four or five years ago.
