I know; that's what we were saying. Siouweet said the only good thing about winning in 3 games is that there is no longer a Thursday play in game, and I agreed with that, noting how hard that schedule could end up being in years past. But I went back and edited my wording so that it's easier for the simple folk to understand.

It's true, but it surprises me. When Murray first started at WMU, I remember hearing a quote he had given about how he thought refs in college hockey spent to much time explaining things to the bench (in comparison to the NHL), and that they should just make the call and move on. Fast forward a few years, and he's a huge whiner.

SCSU is first in the conference, so I don't think losing to them is cause to assume the boys are back to early season form. And you're selectively choosing the last 10 periods because, if you said the last 11, the number of goals would jump from 4 to 9. As for Western, I kind of equate them to a good Mankato team...not the most skilled ever, but a few great players and always a tough, hard fought game. So I don't think losing one to them is indicative of losing the mojo either, especially considering how even the game was throughout. It very well may take UND three games to get past CC, but I don't think the situation is as desperate as you make it out to be. But, maybe I'm being overly optimistic. I completely agree about the Thursday game, though. Especially if the playoff went to three games, you played the thursday play in game, won to play friday and saturday and then got placed in a regional that played Thursday/Friday the following week. Brutal.

Presumably sick, since the fill-in only had a 3 hour warning he was doing the game.

I'm sure there's a restaurant or two out there (sorry I can't help with that), but just in case you can't find one, most libraries and things have free wifi that you can pick up from the parking lot I used that one a lot the two years I didn't have internet. Surprisingly, in the town I live now, the parking lot of the tractor supply does as well!

One powerhouse down, another to go. Let's go Sioux!!!!!
-
Nah...it's always the seemingly quiet ones that cause the biggest raucous. Legend has it that during the third period Sioux comeback at the regional in Wisconsin several years ago, Mrs. Siouxman was being quite the pot-stirrer. If it weren't for Siouxman, there could have been a full-out brawl in that section haha

And sometimes it does translate, but it takes until they are sophomores or juniors.

You're not missing much...they keep having to take a ton of breaks to clear off some of the snow.

Wow. Someone didn't have much to do today...

Does the credit go to Miami or to Duluth's 4-game losing streak?
-
Yuck. The 7:37 starts are hard enough for those of us in the eastern time zone.

Not only that, but he gets to be near family.

Especially since it was first used in 1935 in reference to food distribution during war. While a little over the top, I like most of the terms he used. It adds a little variation.

In French, 'douche' means shower. Maybe that poster thought you were refreshing?

Technically, I think it was Crosby that wanted to clear it with Toews. But I agree about Parise. The most telling quote was him saying that the Finns played like they had something to win. No kidding, buddy. You guys did too. He sounded like Minnesota and the third place game at the Final Five.

per Schlossman: Karvinen led the Olympics in both goals (5) and points (7). Jocelyn Lamoureux led in assists (5).

Karvinen named top forward of the Olympics. Tremendous honor for her!

Sandelin has a 217-210-58 record and has made a whopping 4 NCAA tournaments in his ten years as head coach. You can fight all you want about the Sioux having more talented players during that time, but that's not a trade I would make for 1 national championship. I can only imagine how unbearable SiouxSports and the game chats would be if the Sioux only made the tournament once every few years.

Both these semi-finals boast fantastic rivalries. When it comes to sports, Finland and Sweden absolutely hate each other. Just this year alone, Finland beat Sweden for the World Jr Championship (in Sweden, no less), the Swedish women pulled an upset to deny Finland any medal chances, and now the men play with advancing to the gold medal game on the line. I love it.

Mario Lamoureux headed to europe to play, I think in Austria.

Haha next time someone throws out the 'no cares cares about hockey' line, feel free to tell them that the USA-CAN preliminary women's hockey game pulled 5.6 million viewers in Canada alone.

http://www.thestar.com/sports/sochi2014/hockey/2014/02/17/whats_wrong_with_olympic_womens_hockey_not_much_cox.html Fabulous article about women's hockey in the Olympics. Considering the Dutch basically swept most of the speed skating events, it's not like women's hockey is the only sport with just a few at the top.
-
That's true for some, but definitely not others (cough* Switzerland *cough). It's just a matter of sports priorities...many countries, choose to focus on snow sports. USA and Canada women's hockey shouldn't be penalized for that by limiting time playing together. If any country was going to challenge this year, it was Finland. I'm incredibly surprised that Sweden got past them.

Until I saw it last night, I never understood why Miami's record was as bad as it is. Now I completely get it. I'm interested to see what the upcoming off season brings for them...wouldn't be surprised to see Barber, Kuraly, and Czarnik all walk out the door.
