Heck I would have no idea.

Yes. The Fighting Sioux club or I guess Champions club is going to set up an account. It will be tax deductible. You make it total of 15, only 85 to go. As soon as I get tinstructions I will post it. 85 to go!
-
Outstanding! That is 14 and only 86 to go. Liked your post. These kids aren't going to wait 3 yrs to be competitive. They will work their butts off and get a lot better by this fall.

Novak 78, Ira Murphy, Ira's 3 golf team guys (they said they are thinking of replacing me but they will pony up), UND Fan, Siouxfbfan, FSSD, gf hockey, geaux sioux, Mamma Sue, and ohihnds makes 13. Need 87 more.
-
Yes. We had silver helmet with silver pants. I can't say what the colors would be. I would guess that would be up to coaches/players. I would choose silver or metallic grey but don't know. I believe we now have 12 on board. Need at least 88 more. Remember first 20 get matching $150 for $350 pledge. They should go to Mike Manasau of Champions Club UND alumni office. He is in Denver but I will find his email.
-
Ok. I posed the question and a day later we have 10 posters who are in. I figured I should check with someone at UND so I called Mike Mannasau and he said he had been thinking of something similar. He said helmet, jersey, pants was something he had been thinking about. He was going to ask for $500 per uniform then donor would also get replica jersey. We would need to involve them so everyone can deduct it as a donation. Something called GMS foundation will cover the extra $150 for everyone who has already committed so for $350 you will get the benefit of the $500 donation with the matching $150. The GMS foundation will also cover $150 of the $500 for the next 10 people to commit $350 toward this project. After that I think they believe it would take about $500 per player for helmet and uniform. Boise State and Oregon have Nike and we have Siouxsports.com.

Kostich was in talking to Detroit Lakes kids. Herzog is 5' 11" 205 lb QB, DB. Was good RB as Soph. Then switched to QB. Would likely play strong safety. Hits hard good quickness tough kid. Didn't play much db after 2nd game. Might be scholarship kid otherwise PWO. Kirby Siewert is 6' 2 " 252lb DL. Great feet good motor, smart. Prob PWO. Schmidt was in 2 weeks ago. Local coaches impressed with both new UND guys.
-
The other 3 guys I golf with in Siouxperswing are in. (They may not know it yet). 95 to go.
-
If helmets are $250 per and jersey and pants another $100, think we can find 100 people to commit $350 or 200 guys to commit $175 and buy FB team 2nd set helmets and another set of uniforms?

Never. If you are good you don't need to tell anyone. People will know especially the poor schmuck you just outplayed.

If you are any good you don't need to talk.

Philip Nelson leaving Minnesota football program
iramurphy replied to UND-FB-FAN's topic in Football
Same conclusion Craig Bohl and Vigen came to when they recruited him. Same reason he attracted attention from some FBS programs. I don't recall he was compared to Gopher QB's last fall. I don't believe you are able to decide how good he can be based on last fall. Neither of our QBs had time to throw. Our receiving corps was in fact very talented last year. I am not convinced this team had a great work ethic last year. Biggest disappointment was O-line, lack of running game and lack of discipline. Defense maybe a little better but that doesn't say much. I believe we had some good young kids. We lost a lot with transfers and injuries to Kuska and Adams. I said Nelson couldn't walk in and take the job and he might earn it but not without a battle. Neither Gopher qb played well last year. That was a factor in their losses. Our qb play regardless of who was playing wasn't the reason we struggled. I may be wrong but we are ok at qb no matter which of these guys emerges as the starter. I think Mollberg has a bigger upside but I've watched him play for 5 yrs. -
Usually try and match kids based on whether or not they know each other, have similar , interests, play same position, or came from same conference or area. Usually use your younger guys who will be around another 3-4 yrs. coaches weigh multiple factors.

That was such a clever response I am almost at a loss on how to respond to anything so clever. Good to know you have nothing better to do than monitor this website. If you spent half as much time studying as you do on this web site it wouldn't take you so long to finish school. You are right the stress created by such comments has me driving to MSP to find a competent physician. Was your " sota" doc smart enough to take one look at you and see how goofy you are or did he have to examine your abdomen first??? -

If your "sota" doc thinks he can diagnose mono by feeling your fat belly then I doubt he was a graduate of the U of Minn. medical school. I'm sure John Boy, in the 8 yrs it seems to be taking you to get a degree from the AC, you have become an expert on mono. I would guess whomever felt your belly thought you had an enlarged spleen. That doesn't mean you have mono anymore than a negative mono test early in the course of your illness means you don't have mono. You made some dumb ass comment about the U of N. Dak. Medical School being a joke. I have attended both UND and Mayo Medical School and the staff at Mayo had a high regard for UND. UND's medical students are outstanding. I have had students in the health sciences from UND, USD, UMD, U of Minn. and the AC nurse practioner program for 20 yrs. Your experience seems to be from the fact that you see multiple doctors. Don't you have a doctor who you normally see? Do you realize that while you seem to feel better by your sophomoric comments about UND or Gopher FB, they come from a character whose life seems to revolve around his favorite college team and their successes which you have nothing to do with. How pathetic that there is nothing more interesting in your life that you spend this much time on a sports blog of a former rival. The highlight of your day seems to be to point out that another fans team isn't always successful. That is sad. You can put it on your résumé if you ever finish school. -

The AC might very well have beaten the Gophers this year. Gophers were better than they have been in many years so they may have been able to win that game. Im not an AC fan but i would have bet on the AC. I will predict Johnson will get a lot more attention from pro scouts than Leider or Nelson. I disagreed with your goofy statement that Nelson would walk in to job at UND. Didn't say he couldn't win job. Nelson was the obvious recruit out of hs but Gophers, Iowa, and Michigan State all showed interest in Mollberg so if you trust your close friend Jerry Kill then he must be a lot better than you think. Time will tell and I would bet a tidy sum on Mollberg's future given better protection, and improved coaching and surrounding cast. -

Thus, he wouldn't walk in and have the starting job at UND. Lieder didn't do anything special either. You may be sold on these two Gophers but neither would have played at the Ag School. They would have been behind Johmson and Wentz. I don't think either are better than Mollberg but until you have an OC, O-line and some semblance of running game then it's tough to say. I can say they wouldn't walk in to UND and take qb job from either of our QB's without a battle from Mollberg and Bartels. -

Nelson and Mollberg were the top 2 QB's out of Mn. their senior yr. Nelson was faster and brought speed to his running games. Mollberg had stronger arm but missed beginning of season and played hurt. Mollberg is better than either of the QB's the Gophers had this yr. Given time and the right scheme so was Bartels. Both of our QB's made some great plays and made some poor decisions. Mollberg is stronger and has the big time arm. Both our kids suffered from play calling that didn't seem to have any strategy and the lack of a running game and poor pass protection. Mollberg can stand in the pocket and make every throw you need. Bartels has to wind up a bit tp make the 40-50 yd throw. Mollberg can create with his ability to run and he can break tackles. Bartels doesn't have that. Nelson has the quickness to escape trouble and in the open has better speed than our guys.dont know who our qb will be next fall but Nelson wouldn't walk into starting job and he would need to be better passer than he was last yr. Both of our guys are as good or better passers and neither had protection. Nelson might emerge as top guy but he would have a battle with both of our guys. -
Don't believe you will see demise of fb at AC in near future. It not likely they will be as good. They have plenty of good kids and had good recruiting last year. Having said that, who cares? Sioux just need to get better with a focus on becoming a great team.

Of course that would also include physical or occupational therapy, chemical or petroleum engr. a more prestigious college of business, more opportunities in medical sciences, the entrepreneurship program, geological engineering and geological sciences, medical technology, accounting and I guess most can understand pre-med and pre-law students have an advantage being on campus for 5 yrs and can take advantage of internships and lab work or courses with professors who are med school or law school staff. Athletically UND has the opportunity to play in the Big Sky and compete for conference and National Championships. If the kids are good enough and choose UND chances are good. If you are good enough your college career can lead to an NFL career. You can be part of the team that turns things around and that is pretty cool. The ag college you probably went to will not likely be on game day and if they play well will certainly continue to have an exciting game day atmosphere for fans. As a player we don't get to hang out with the tv guys and we play the game which is more fun with a great crowd. When UND gets there program back on track, the Alerus and pre-game at UND isnangreat atmosphere. You highlight one of the big differences between the programs. You talk about the past and game day. I talk about a great athletic opportunity while obtaining an excellent education in a great atmosphere. Same situation I faced as hs senior. Ag school was coming off national championship yr and had pounded UND in previous season. My Soph yr we demolished an undefeated ag college team. And help them to negative yardage. I chose to go to UND cuz they had a better passing game and the head civil engr for the federal highway administration recommended UND's Civil Engr. program. When I changed my major, I had more choices of a major field of study. My teammates are now Doctors, Lawyers, teachers, Engineers, Accountants, Farmers, Pilots, military veterans, entrepreneurs, and CEOs of companies and corporations. Simple as that, I wanted more than Game Day and the fans. In addition to a great education we won a couple of conference Championships and a Bowl game. When I served in combat with the 1st Armored Div. my radio operator was a UND guy. Our Brigade JAG guy was a UND guy. We had Apache and Blackhawks guys who were UND guys. The CEO of Cargill is a UND guy. CEO of Buffalo Wild Wings a UND gal. Our backup QB is CEO of one of the largest timber companies in the world. Our punter was CEO of one of largest food wholesalers in Colorado. Defensive tackle attorney who owned multiple gold mines around the world as only part of his financial empire. The estimated net worth of those teammates is in the millions. More importantly, those same teammates give back to their communities regularly. There is a connection for UND students that you won't understand. That my young friend is the UND advantage in a nut shell. I and many others will take that over playing for a team that had previously been a winner. Once school is over no one gives a rats behind what I did or didn't do on a fb field or even if I played. Besides, they are building a new road between MSP and Grand Forks that will make the trip to games shorter for parents to drive than the drive to Fargo.
-
Don't read more into what I believe than is there. I listed what I would use as selling points for kids. Playing at Big Sky locations is more attractive to me than many other FCS schools. The AC's recent success is a factor in their favor. Most athlete's and coaches will choose to consider the AC based on that factor alone. That is their advantage. Once kids are on campus we show them other factors that neutralize the advantage the AC starts with. Why have they had more recent success? They upgraded their weight room and locker room facilities before we did. They moved to fcs before we did. By the time this years recruits are Soph we can neutralize their advantage. The recruits can connect to players and coaches on their visit. As long as thenschool, facilities and schedule arenattractive, those connections trump past history. Your frustrations are similar to other Sioux fans and you make some good points. To be successful you must believe in your organization and your people. Then you convince others to believe. My position coach, Gene Murphy once convinced a recruit's Mom they were going to build a new highway between MSP and GF that would make trip to GF shorter than MSP to Fargo. Once you get those recruits here you convince them they can do things they didn't even consider they were capable of.
-
Because kids have parents and the good ones want to know what the school can offer academically. UND has a big advantage. Big Sky is a more attractive schedule for travel. Montana, Washington, Colorado, Arizona, California, Colorado,, Utah, Oregon and Idaho. UND is upgrading their facilities and has a great campus and facilities. Graduates do well. You sell the kid on his opportunity to be part of something special at UND rather than choosing a school based on their past. That is what good recruiters can do. Not sure I would want to go to war with folks who give up so easily.

Successful hockey is good for fb and the other sports and successful fb is good for hockey. Hockey fans are different in that we have Sioux hockey fans who are also Bison fans. Hockey creates a different culture in many ways and this website tends to have more hockey fans. Fans at any University tend to jump on the bandwagon of winning teams. People want to associate with success thus the culture of the rabid fans who tend to be a bit goofy. Kupchella didn't appreciate the value of intercollegiate athletics to the University. Successful programs in fb, bb, and hockey lead to positive marketing and publicity for the University. The REA staff in the beginning tended to focus on hockey and with repeated participation in FF we had a lot of folks who jumped on the bandwagon and made trips to Englestad a social event. AC fb has a lot of that now. I returned from San Diego Sunday and there were a lot of folks returning from the ac game on the plane. There were quite a few who were there for the social scene and to somehow associate with a winning program. That success helps them in soccer, bb, wrestling etc. hs kids will chose a lesser academic opportunity to be part of the game day and playoff scene. That leads to increased enrollment and donations. Long and short term benefits. UND demands excellence but priorities are a bit different. Kelly understands value of athletics to the University. Until this past season FB was making slow but steady progress. We will find out how much the coaching was a factor but contrary to some of our blog experts I don't think this team is without talent. Wish Edwards, Jackson, Golladay and Brown would have stayed. Sparks was great kid. Not sure why he didn't play more. Hurts to lose Adams and Kuska. Up to staff to replace kids we lost through transfers, injuries and graduation. Expectation should be we are better next fall and we are competing for playoff spot in 2 years, conference title in 3 yrs. local hs coaches feel Bubba, Rudolph, and Schmidt are great core of coaches and good recruiters. Misconception that criticism is not accepted is unwarranted. Mussman was let go with time on contract cuz this season was unacceptable and program took step back. Time will tell but if program not moving in positive direction within 2 yrs there will be pressure to make change. New facility, Big Sky, and excellent academics are all recruiting positives. Those who dwell on our neighbors to south have valid concerns. They will be good again and if there new staff falters it won't be right away. Not working today, waiting for my wife to get rotator cuff repair, so I'm full of great wisdom. (Or more likely just full of crap but there you go)
