South Dakota State looking at 3 Detroit Lakes kids: QB-DB Max Gunderson, RB Isiah Thompson (returning State Wrestling Champ at 170 lbs, ) and Gabe Hanonen RB, LB. Gundy may know if any of them were invited to UND's Junior day. All three are in a winter sport so I don't know availability.

Beachy is a decent athlete. I'm not sure he can play QB at MSUM. He couldn't play QB here. QB from Wilmar reported by some is one of top baseball prospects in upper midwest. Also excellent basketball player. I think he could have played QB here, but he would have had to continue to improve. Our staff didn't seem interested but maybe because he wasn't going to play FB.

Had Rudolph not crapped on Mollberg and allowed him to return and compete for the job, I think he would have had a great finish to his career. No matter who the QB was during his first 2 years they were getting hammered and we had no running game. None of the QB's had much success. The guy is gone and we can only wonder but he was one of the biggest gets in the D1 era. It would have helped to have a QB coach to help him develop, but same can be said for all of our QB's under Rudolph.

I don't know enough about their Title 9 situation to comment. I don't think they would be a top 10 team but I think some years they would be top 25. They are close to that now. Their strength is the financial support from the FM community. That support now includes a bandwagon full of fans from all over the state and region. Their relationship with Sanford Health is a relationship with an organization named after a Billionaire who has 10-15 yrs to decide where his financial empire will go to keep it away from the IRS. As the FM community grows the companies donating $10,000 -$50,000 to their athletics will likely grow. Corporate sponsorship and TV/media revenue is the most important driving support for college athletics. We have a Governor and legislature who are willing to provide favorable legislation for them even at the expense of all other institutions of higher learning in N. Dak. I get your point about success. When is the last time Minnesota or Wisconsin has won an NCAA title? When moving up most schools need to upgrade facilities which is a big part of the expense. They are already there. They would need to come up with the cost of the additional 30 or whatever the number is for scholarships. Therefore I believe they would survive. They would give up the title of the best FCS team in the country to play with the big dogs.

Actually not at all uncommon. There is only one NCAA hockey team in the state. Most N. Dak. Residents who like hockey are UND hockey fans and might be NDSU fans for all other sports. We shouldn't be so thin skinned we can't tolerate fans of both who give us some relatively mild crap as long as there is a limit. It is a sign of weakness. The best way to deal with this is to get better and beat them on the field. Too often we are intolerant of those, even our own loyal fans, who post statements that either challenge our own views or piss us off cuz, in this case we have to tip our hat to them and move on. By the way, I believe those who feel they couldn't afford the move to FBS should remember people said the same thing about them moving to FCS/DI.

Really? How many people post a welcome message to recruits when they commit? Frankly, it doesn't matter if you or I want him here. This is what kids and their parents do. If you don't think kids from other parts of the country don't go on social media you are mistaken. That is one of the first ways they find out about a school that contacts them. They can find this blog and similar blogs from other schools. When they read fans are demanding a coaching change on our major fan blog then it is a factor. Once the kid gets here, you hope they are smart enough to ignore these blogs.
-
Anyone know which coach was his primary recruiter? If it was one of the departed guys, that would be a big factor. If the kid or his family check out this website they would question the stability of our staff and loyalty of our fans. How many posters are threatening to stop supporting FB cuz Chaves didn't fire Bubba. They would read how this is Bubba's last year unless we can get into the playoffs and win. I'm not disagreeing with that sentiment but a QB who is as good as we think this kid is may not want to risk his future on the unknown future facing this team. Frankly, our staff needs to sell kids on the fact that we have a number of key guys returning and our new OC will bring a multifaceted exciting brand of FB to the offensive side of the ball. We need to get the WR and Oline coaching positions filled ASAP. There is a big difference in being able to make the playoffs and being good enough to be a successful playoff team. This kid looked like the real deal but I doubt he was going to start next year anyway. Tough loss. I don't believe he is going to reconsider his decommit.

Shutting Sanford out was one of UND's biggest mistakes. Had we not done that, I believe phase II of the HPC would be finished by now. Sanford just committed to a 10yr deal with our high school worth about $1.2 million. Support from Sanford could make Augie relevant in a hurry.

Kid didn't have good State Championship game but he could play. The word is he is a high end MLB prospect as a catcher and isn't going to play college FB.

I don't care if the Off Coord is from present staff, from in the program or outside the program. I care that we do what is best for the program. Danny certainly has had enough time and experience to know what this team needs. Former QB's tend to want to be creative and open things up. Danny was one of the best in D2 in his day. He has the potential to be a head coach some day. There isn't much room for error obviously. Good luck to these guys.

I never asked for credentials as such. There are a lot of posts that we all make, myself included, that people wonder where the poster is coming from. His was detailed and I was curious.
-
It does and no I don't give a rat's behind about degrees. Paper is cheap, experience isn't. I was curious.
-
This is the problem. Too many folks waste time and energy worrying about "getting behind" a logo when we should be more concerned about getting behind the athletic teams. The old logo was fine, the new logo is fine. I couldn't care less. It will likely evolve over time and that is fine. Wear whatever you prefer, but the constant debate and criticism of those who prefer the former logos or those who want to move on with the new logo is detrimental to UND as a University and to our athletic teams. Wear whatever logo you wish and quit whining about how UND reached this point or what someone else wants to wear.
-
What is all of this based on??? What is your experience with these athletes and what is your area of expertise? Other than we want everyone of our athletes to be stronger and faster what is the basis for recommending adding or subtracting weight for these individuals? I'm not saying you are wrong or right I'm just asking.

He didn't do well at all. Threw off wrong foot into traffic multiple times. Picked 4 times. Looked very average. He is still a very good athlete that I think can play and if not QB at another position but anyone watching him today wouldn't be impressed. Too bad for him. The Suggs kid is an outstanding athlete. Announcers said he visited Alabama and Notre Dame but is an NBA talent in BB. Fun kid to watch.
-
Probably the same reason no one offered Thielen or Schobert. I don't know that he hasn't been offered by other programs but he is also a very good BB player. I would think at least the D2 programs have offered.

The Dirksen kid from Willmar ran for over 130 yds and a TD and threw for 2 TDs in their 44-0 win vs Hermantown last week in the quarter finals. Last night he ran for 90 yds and 3 TD's and threw for 4 TDs in their 62-20 against St. Paul Johnson. I watched part of game replay on Star Tribune web site.

Says who???
-
I would scholarship the kid and get him locked down but we already have a highly touted QB from Nebraska committed.

Although for the most part being a veteran doesn't give veterans the right to anything other than holding their heads a little higher when the flag passes and sometimes tearing up during the the national anthem when former brothers or sisters in arms are remembered, I'm not sure what John W's message was, nor do the rest of you. If I had to guess, and my guess is as good as anyone else's, I would think this person included that as a preface to sharing why the issue bugs him. Most of us old enough to be Vietnam Vets attended UND during a time when no one cared about the nickname. For most of us, it became important when the NCAA and activists began the process of taking it away. For me, it was the. Ben Brien logo which I didn't wish to lose. My ties and loyalty to UND are strong. My ties and respect for my country are stronger and regardless of my veterans status I have never liked people yelling home of the Sioux, but I don't lose sleep over it because it isn't meant to be disrespectful to our nation nor those who bravely served. I dislike the ignorant morons who yell "who's he he sucks sh.." when opponents are introduced more than the "Home of the Sioux" at the end of the Anthem. The "he sucks Sh.." chant is meant to be disrespectful, shows such a lack of class and doesn't require any cleverness (which the great college cheers and jeers usually have). To John W. , your uncle, the Nam Vets you refer to and other Veterans, thanks for your service. To those who stayed home and farmed, or worked in factories, or did their jobs and payed taxes to support the military thank you. To the family members who raised kids, or supported family members and friends while their loved ones served, thanks. We all do are part.

Get the QB from Willmar. If he doesn't play QB he can play safety.

Mike is a fund raiser and works with the Athletic Department and the Alumni Assn. From everything I have seen and heard he is doing a very good job. He has some great connections and is well liked. I hope that explains things. The people in these positions have a very difficult job and the connections are an important factor.

Bright gal.

I don't disagree with you. I don't care where the coach comes from. Familiarity with the region, community, program, personnel etc is a factor that should be considered. It should not be the most important factor, nor the deciding factor. As you say, that ship has sailed.
