After spending a week in GF, I can see that it is not the "shithole" that the guy on Skyscraper makes it out to be. Not that I thought that anyway, but the growth GF has shown in the last 5-10 years has been amazing. I saw a number of new retail shops in the south end, the new hospital in the south end, the Canad and the additions to the campus over the past few years keeps the future at UND looking brighter. What really caught my eye was the downtown area. The Elite Brownstone project is just being completed, adding 27 condos downtown, Opera House Lofts and under construction The Current. I was also impressed with The Greenway. Quite an impressive and huge park. Keep it going GF.

Unfortunate that the HQ will be placed in Little Rock, but somewhat understandable with air travel. Getting into GF just isn't that easy. Perhaps GF could get a research center. It is the perfect place to do research for wind.

Maybe the rivalry between NDSU and SDSU is getting more heated.

It is sounding more and more as though softball and baseball are not a priority at UND. I know that I read recently that Buning intends to keep these two sports when the transition is made to Division I, but one has to wonder.

After spending the past week in GF, most of which was spent at the Canad, I can't help but think that game day for football is going to be huge. How many other schools can claim to have a destination hotel attached to their football stadium. I can see the three restaurants and Playmakers bar being packed. I would also think that Tavern United would be wise to set up a tent outside in the tailgating area. What really got me thinking about the potential was that there were evidently some wedding dances going on in some of the Alerus ballroom's on Saturday night and there was a steady stream in the hallway between the Alerus and the Canad. Game day at the Alerus/Canad complex is loaded with potential.

What is even better than the cars is in the yard is having major appliances, such as washers and dryers in the yard. That is a true "you know you're a redneck if...". -

I know little of Minot, as I've only been there a couple of times in my life. I haven't been to Bismarck since 1985, but I spent a lot of time there in the early 80's and thought it was a pretty neat area. It was just such a change from GF. The only thing that I would have against Minot is that it is remote. Bismarck has I-94 which makes it seem less remote. -

From a person who hasn't lived in ND for 14 years, I view Fargo and GF about the same. Same weather, same topography, same work ethic, etc. Sure Fargo is bigger, but it isn't substantial enough to make a difference. We are not talking about one city being 600,000 like a Winnipeg and the other 50,000. GF's MSA is around 100,000. Fargo's MSA is about 200,000. Both cities have their pros and cons. Bismarck is different and I would agree, is a desirable location to live. -

Sorry, if you live in North Dakota, you have no idea what a redneck is. -

The story regarding Ziegler and the fact that we are not actively looking for a replacement until next April, I find interesting. To me it implies that baseball will be gone soon at UND. The fact that a person knew this information and didn't put it out in public is admirable. Buning will never make everyone happy. That isn't his job. His job is to run a fiscally sound athletic department with the best possible results from the teams associated with that department. That is a mighty fine line to walk. The fact that an alumni, isn't pleased with Buning shouldn't surprise anyone. The Sicatoka's old signature... Stop the bickering and let's all say it together now... "GO SIOUX!!!"

A great story regarding Sitting Bull... Sitting Bull Stood Bravely While The West Was Won I had two Indian Studies classes in the early '80's and thoroughly enjoyed them.

Are you saying that if this goes to the voters they will approve it if the costs are less thatn $35M?

I wasn't referring to any of your posts in particular. I was merely apologizing for including you, as a journalist, with all of the other journalists of the world, because I think far too often they editorialize events to fit their preconceived ideas.

I was apologizing for lumping all journalists together.

Wanless was the AD from 1990 to 1999, so the 1994 article would have been mid-way through his tenure. Wanless named new CSUS athletics director This is what I'm remembering. Sometimes a one year snapshot doesn't give the full truth. One of my biggest problems with journalists. No offense PCM.
-
I knew of a couple of people who had nicknamed him "Worthless". I don't recall why. If I remember right, though, wasn't the Athletic Department always in the black with Wanless? Sometimes leaders have to make unpopular decisions that others don't understand, because they are not privy to all of the information. Additionally, it is much easier to poke holes in someone else's policies than to have to produce, enact and manage your own policies.
