  1. If this is the case why does UND have more Native American students than any other university around. As far as the honoring of the Sioux name is concerned, my thought has always been that it is more to honor the Sioux warriors of the past. They were proud people through some of the most adverse times. I enjoy reading about the Sioux history and that is mainly because UND has the Sioux nickname and because I took classes in the Indian Studies program at UND. If the Sioux leaders of today want their heritage forgotten, they are going about it the right way. Even though Wovoka warned against the evils of the white man, he also advocated educating the Sioux young. Isn't that part of what UND is trying to do with all of the IS and INMED programs?
  2. My wife and I collect books and are in the process of building somewhat of a home library. We have a set of 1929 encyclopedias which are great to page through. This is what those encyclopedias had to say about UND back then... Since this is UND's 125th anniversary, I thought this was a nice place to post this.
  3. National University Rankings. UND ranks #117 out of 242 school in this magazine's rankings. USD ranked a little better at 112. The methodology for the rankings include social mobility, research and service.

  8. From those who went to the game, how was the game day atmosphere? How did the Canad play into the situation? How did the parking fees work out? Shuttle system? Tailgating fees?
  9. Game Day!!!!! Unfortunately, I will be on the road and will not be able to hear/see the game. Go Sioux!!!!!
  10. I use Firefox for my browser and like when the websites have a logo or icon on their tab and in the address bar. Can you put the new logo there also? Currently SiouxSports.com has the geometric symbol on the tab.
  11. I like the logo and the format changes are great.
  12. NDSU tops UND in first-day enrollment NDSU enrollment passes UND
  13. I agree. Very nice logo.

  16. I hate to start a new thread for this items, so I thought I would throw it in here. CHARLEY WALTERS: '87 team special to Pohlad
  17. I somewhat agree, but didn't Kupchella say originally that he was leaving in January '08 and is extending to July when asked? I realize that alot of the plans that Kupchella has had are long range goals and he can keep working toward those, but typically someone who is a lame duck is less inclined to produce further. Maybe I'm making too much of the time issue, but 1-1/2 years seems like a long time. With all of that said, I'm all for getting the best person possible for the job.
  18. 'Photo on the green' to kick off UND's 125th anniversary plans
  19. VIEWPOINT: UND presidential search enjoys good start Is it normal for the process to take 1-1/2 years from the time a current president announces his departure until a new president is selected and seated as the new president? It just seems like an awfully long time.
  20. OUR OPINION: Don't soft-sell UND nickname to candidates for presidency I would think that unless the candidates are clueless they would already have done their homework about UND and know all about the nickname issue. I would prefer that the candidate know as much as possible.
  21. Sioux well-armed at QB
  22. Diplomatic course?
  23. Ditto that "Congrats".
  24. As a Gulf Coast resident, we watch each tropical wave with interest and understand the impact these storms can have as they materialize into tropical storms and hurricanes. We prayed for the people of Jamaica tonight before the kids went to sleep.
  25. Granted, selling UND to Floridians wouldn't be an easy task, but part of UND's Strategic Plan is to Florida is the fourth most populated state, so it meets the great supply of students statement and with enrollment caps coming on the 11 universities the potential for out-migration of students will be growing. Now may be the time for UND to capture some of these students. Edit: As a side note. when I was in college in the early '80's there was geography student in my class from Pensacola. Ironically that is now where I live. Additionally, there is a well-known GF restaurateur from Long Beach CA, who went to UND and decided to stay in GF and open a bar/restaurant.
