UND has a lot of wealthy generous alum's. I don't remember the amounts on some of these but most are in the $1MM to $10MM range........ Ralph gave $5 million years ago to renovate the old Ralph. Ralph gave $104 million to build REA Engelstad's gave another $20 million a couple years ago James Ray gave $12 million to the Entreprenuer program and Aerospace School Norm Skalicky gave a large gift $ Chester Fritz gave $1 million gift way back in the late '60's Dr. Eva Gilbertson gave $5.3 million to the Med School in '07 Ina Mae Rude gift $ Bart and Lynn Holaday gave a sizeable gift $ Rick and Jody Burgum gave about $5 million a couple years ago. Greg and Cindy Page gave $3.3 million to the Business School last year. Norm Hoffman gave $2 million a couple years ago These are just a few that I can think of of the top. I'm sure there's quite a few more. Someone gave $10 million about 4 years ago. They used a portion of it to build a chapel down on English Coulee but I don't remember the name.

OK....how about if the rest of the conferences tell them that no other teams will play them, not even the Alaska's or Huntsville? And that no women's teams will play them either, so Minnesota, Ohio State and Wisconsin will have their womens Big Ten but their women will just have to play with each other all year. Well, now that I think about it, that might not be a good idea. They might fill their arena's for every game. Next thing you know, guys like Sicatoka, goon and others would be season ticket holders for Gopher Women's Hockey and signing up for the Big Ten Network Package

If the Big 10 wants to form their own hockey conference, why couldn't the rest of the conferences say that "if you do it, we won't play you, but we'll give the two Alaska schools and Huntsville exceptions if they want to play you. When those three schools travel to your venue, you'll have to pay them a 'football-like' body bag fee." With a 6 team conference, they'd have to play each other quite a few times to fill out their schedule. So, a team like Minnesota has to jump on an airplane for every series except Wisconsin. Right now, they bus to Mankato, St. Cloud, Duluth, Bemidji, Grand Forks and Wisconsin. So, if they wanted to fill out a non-conference schedule, each one of the Big Ten schools would have to travel up to Alaska twice each year and to Huntsville once in addition to flying to most of their conference games. I suppose Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame & Michigan State would be able to bus when then play each other, but Minnesota, Wisconsin & Penn State would have quite a bit of air travel. Would the other conferences come together to shut the BTHC out of their schedules? It would be fun to see what would happen if they did. So these are the rules for the men's side. In addition to this....for Minnesota, Wisconsin & Ohio State, none of our women's teams will play you either. So, you three will have to play each other about 10 times to fill out your schedule. Or maybe you will just have to drop women's hockey all together.

So far, I've seen these two newspaper headlines for NDSU this past week: Fargo Forum: NDSU cleans up after manure discharged into ditch Chicago Tribune: Ex-football player pleads guilty to ND theft ring And I've seen these about UND: Star and Tribune: Hockey and a Marine Grand Forks Herald: Lamoureux twins to throw out first pitch at Twins game Saturday [*]Sports Illustrated: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/art...72543/index.htm - A story about Sioux hockey recruit Rocco Grimaldi [*]Toronto Sun: http://www.torontosun.com/sports/hockey/20...8/14849136.html - A story about a UND hockey family

Ira -- any idea if he's related to the Krabbenhoft's from Northwood?
-
I was scratching my head when I read that also. Why would the school with the largest metro population be left out of the Dakota sports package? Do you think that was the Forum's call, MidContinents, The Ralph's, or is the blundering turd trying to start something on their own? Either way I like that UND, the Forum, MidCon, The Ralph & UND are including SDSU & USD. Can you imagine where UND sports would be right now if it wasn't for Ralph Engelstad? None of this would be possible if he wouldn't have made the initial $113MM investment. Every sport at UND is benefitting from his generous gift. It's too bad that there are still some around that don't recognize that and would like to kick hockey to the side. Hockey is the driver behind everything in UND athletics.

Is it a bridge to nowhere?

Any idea on how much it would cost a school like NDSU, or anyother school to launch a network? Also, if they did decide to launch a network, will someone like Fox College Sports automatically pick them up or is there more to it than just purchasing the equipment and telling FCS "here we are and we're ready to go national with our sports programs"???

It looks to me like Jonny might be getting ready to hitch up his horse to his little black buggy and mosey into Long Prairie, MN for some supplies.

I heard a report late today that he was spotted by a Drone when he poked his head out of a cave in Afghanistan. The report went on to say that UND Aerospace students are assisting in the search for Chapman by supplying the UAV and a specially designed UND AgCam similar to this one - http://www.umac.org/sensors/agcam/eng.html - that was used in a recent Space Shuttle mission to the Internation Space Station. In addition to the vision capabilities of the Shuttle AgCam, this particular AgCam is also equipped with extraordinary olfaction capabilities and can pick up Chapman's stench from many miles away. At first there was some disagreement whether or not it was really Chapman who stuck his head out because he now has a beard and is wearing a huge Turban that covers his ears. But when the olfaction sensor was activated there was no doubt they had the right guy.

Great pictures and then you go and wreck the whole thing with a stupid vulgar song.

I thought it might be a good time to dust of some comments from a few of our internet coaching experts. There's a reason why Hak, Cary & Dane get paid to lead/coach the team and there's also a reason why 11,500 of us have to pay to sit in The Ralph and watch the team. JK said it very well in another thread....as well as the coaching staff has done since Hak took over, this might be the best job of coaching that Hak, Cary & Dane have done. When you come into the season with only 3 seniors and you're playing 17 freshmen and sophomores, the expectations shouldn't be out in the stratosphere. Then we lose the best defenseman in college hockey and we're down to two seniors. Then we lose VandeVelde and Hextall to injuries for lengthy periods of time but the coaching staff is able to hold the team together even though we were down to one senior. How this team managed to get to a tie for #4 in the pairwise and win the Final Five is quite amazing. We're actually getting bonus hockey now that we probably had no reason to expect. Even with all the adversity the team faced after Genoway went down, they were very competitive when they went out to Denver and deserved to win one of those games. As the second half rolled around, Hak kept saying they were close and it turns out he was right. Here are some of the Internet Coaching experts comments..... ***************************************** OETKB Just a weak season. No real fight. They try to compete, but they don't have nearly the grit they are given credit for. ***************************************** Oxbow6 If I hear "We're close" from Hak in post game... No you are not close, but you are close to being out of time this season! ******************************************* Shawn-O Kiss home ice goodbye. ******************************************* fightingsioux4life Here is the remaining schedule for this team and my predictions for what I think will happen: 2/13 @St. Cloud (L)....this time Lee is the "hero" in net. 2/19-20 UM-Duluth(W)(L)....boys win on Friday, party too much and lose on Saturday. 2/26-27 @Colorado College (L)(L)....the World Arena has been tough on our great teams, this could get ugly. 3/5-6 Michigan Tech (W)(W)....this is Grand Forks, not Hougton and it's not the Winter Carnival. Thus, a home sweep. 3/12-14 WCHA First Round, on the road (L)(W)(L)....doesn't matter where this series is held, I don't see us in St. Paul. ***************************************** SIOUXELEVENS This will be the first year, no home playoffs, no final five. ***************************************** ticklethetwine 1 win out of 3 with Minny 0 wins out of 4 Denver. I say fire his a@@. ***************************************** ticklethetwine Every week we hear oh this team is due and they should really get it going they are just having some bad luck. The funny thing is we keep saying that every weekend but nothing changes. Our leaders don't step up ****************************************** gfhockey scott sandelin??? ******************************************* BringDeanBack I feel bad for Genoway, his season is done, and his team doesn't seem to care.

The IUPUI coach said some of the insults had racial overtones. I've heard that the NCAA is looking into the matter and they suspect that it can be traced back to the Fighting Sioux nickname and logo. I've also heard that Leigh Jenoette and SCOMM faculty believe Ralph Engelstad was responsible. SCSU is also going to get involved and protestors will disrupt UND fans at the next Sioux/Huskies game.

You are kidding....right? Even Mike McFeely admitted that Bison athletics is Small Potato's with the following article in the Fargo Forum a few years ago: This is still only Fargo, an extremely small market. This is still only North Dakota, a flyover state in the middle of nowhere. This is still only North Dakota State University, a Division I institution located in a small market in a flyover state in the middle of nowhere. Those are the lessons the brain wizards in the NDSU athletic department should have learned as they shuffle back to WDAY, jockstraps in hand, to work out a broadcast deal to air the mighty Bison. The flirtations with Clear Channel are dead, mainly because that entity decided University of North Dakota hockey broadcasts are too profitable to let get away. UND over NDSU? Hopefully a lesson in humility and certainly a slap in the face. (Time for the obligatory full disclosure paragraph, where I tell you who signs my paycheck, so you can decide for yourself whether my opinions on this topic are my own. This newspaper is owned by Forum Communications Co., also the parent of WDAY.) Two things jump out about NDSU

Lou Holtz said the same thing when he took over the Gophers except he said "our heart and soul will come from Minnesota but our legs will have to come from somewhere else."

Hmmm....lets see now. Gale Chapman and JQ Paulson were in charge of the Foundations cookie jar for Joe's housing budget. I doubt that Joe could exert any authority over those two....could he??
