  1. In addition to being one of UND's great football players, Fennell also has been a very successful businessman. He recently sold one of his goldmines for $1.5 billion. http://www.mineweb.com/mineweb/view/minewe...6&sn=Detail
  2. Actually, Vanek had great numbers a year ago and then he signed his big contract at the end of the year. After he got the huge contract he pulled a disappearing act that would make David Blaine envious. Vanek was willing to pay the price until he filled his pockets which is pretty typical of his cake-eater upbringing.
  3. I believe you're right. Even though Parise left the year before, weren't we responsible for most of his contract?

    Chris Chelios

I'm quite sure Chelios verballed to Gino after he visited UND. He still hadn't taken his visit to Wisconsin at that time and instead of canceling that trip several weeks later he decided he take it even though he'd already committed to Gino. Gino didn't like that so he told Chelios that he'd be better off someplace other than UND. Gino always said that if you're going to play at North Dakota you better bleed green. He didn't feel Chelios showed that he was committed to being a Fighting Sioux if he still wanted to make a trip to Madison. UND won a couple of National Championships without Chelios and Wisconsin won a couple with him and it made for the best rivalry in college hockey.
  5. I'm sure everyone has the best of intentions here, but I agree with those who have expressed concern. The last thing that UND needs right now is anything negative. We've had more than our share of that already. If some unfortunate accident were to happen at one of the upcoming Sioux hockey games, a picture of fans wearing these shirts could show up on every sports page across the country. Also, I could see Mike Jacobs, David Gipp, His Horse is Thunder, Doreen YB, and every other far lefty using it against the Fighting Sioux logo debate. Scrap the idea......just go out and cheer the Fighting Sioux onto #8 the rest of the year.
  6. At the beginning of the season I remember asking the question..... "If you were going to trade any of the Sioux defensemen to our neighbors to the East, who would you trade for?" At that time most people would have probably made a trade for one of our 4 through 7 guys for their best. But if I was looking at it now, I wouldn't give up our #7 for their #1.
  7. As opposed to other 1st round draft choices, Gretz probably likes the way this 1st round draft choice is being developed.
  8. I agree he might get more points other places, but with the way things are called in the WCHA it might not make a whole lot of difference. Look at Oshie and Duncan. They should have twice as many points as they do, but because McCloud and Shepard want parity throughout the league, they struggle to get points.
  9. That is possible, but I also heard reports that he was hanging with Britney Spears at the UCLA Medical Centre.
  10. I saw Cory Fienhage at Friday nights game. If Finley ends up signing after this year, maybe CF can pick up the conversation with Bickel.
  11. It would also be hard for this kid to pick NDSU since he wants to be a Medical Doctor. He probably heard that U.S. News and World Report has ranked UND's School of Medicine and Health Sciences as one of the top schools in the nation for its reputation in rural medicine. He probably also heard that President Bush picked Lloyd K. Everson, M.D., one of the founders and vice chairman of US Oncology, to the National Cancer Advisory Board (NCAB). Dr. Everson earned a BS in Chemistry in 1965 and a BS in Medicine in 1967 from the University of North Dakota. Maybe Mr Heimler has similar aspirations. Of course, he could have also heard that UND ranks in the top 100 public universities, according to the Washington Monthly and is also listed among the best national universities by U.S. News & World Report. He might have also heard about the more than 700 Presidential Scholars at UND. Or that UND ranks among the top 10 most entrepreneurial schools in the nation, according to a report by Entrepreneur Magazine and the Princeton Review. Maybe he'll change his mind and want to be an attorney and he heard that the UND School of Law has been ranked the third "most wired" law school in the nation, according to "The National Jurist" magazine. He probably also heard that 96 percent of UND Law School grads pass the Minnesota Bar Exam on their first try. This is an almost unheard of pass rate. He might have heard about Ronald Davies - former federal judge who ordered the integration of Little Rock Central High School. Maybe he'd like to have a high school named after him like Mr. Davies. Or maybe he won't go into medicine or law and decide to graduate from the top Aerospace program in the country. He might want to try and win another National Championship with the University of North Dakota flying team. Or he might want to be a NASA Mission Specialist like Karen Nyberg. He might want to be a Pulitzer Prize winner like Maxwell Anderson, or a Rhodes Scholar like Thomas McGrath. You never know, he might decide he doesn't want to be a Medical Doctor, Lawyer, NASA Mission Specialist, Federal Judge or a Top Gun and instead get into Politics and perhaps be the Governor of North Dakota or a U.S. Congressman or Senator like: Fred G. Aandahl - former governor of North Dakota and former U.S. Congressman Dick Armey - former United States House of Representatives Majority Leader John E. Davis - former governor of North Dakota Byron Dorgan - current U.S. Senator for North Dakota Lynn Frazier - former governor of North Dakota and former U.S. Senator for North Dakota William Langer - former governor of North Dakota and former U.S. Senator for North Dakota John Moses - former governor of North Dakota and former U.S. Senator for North Dakota Ragnvald A. Nestos - former governor of North Dakota Allen I. Olson - former governor of North Dakota Earl Pomeroy - current U.S. Representative for North Dakota Ed Schafer - former governor of North Dakota Maybe Mr. Heimler was out in New York and saw when they had full page articles in the NY Times about the 7 time National Champion Fighting Sioux, or another time when they had a full two page article on the "school on the prairie". He might have been on a United Airlines flight and saw a large article on the UND Hockey team with front cover picture. He might have picked up the Wall Street Journal and saw a large article about the University of North Dakota. He might have read about the last North Dakota University to win a football National Championship. Maybe he wants to be ultra rich like another former UND football player became last October and sell his business for $1.6 Billion in cash. Or maybe he wants to be ultra rich like another former Fighting Sioux athlete and then give the school $104 Million to build a palace on the prairie. I'm only scratching the surface here but I think even a Ag College guy can start to get the picture. This just isn't possible if you pick the AC.
  12. Well, that's pretty interesting. UBC is a Division II school but would most likely play DI in hockey. I wonder if they would eventually move up to DI in other sports? I think it would be great to have UBC, U of Alberta and Simon Fraser University on our schedule. I wonder if St. Cloud State or Minnesota would schedule Simon Fraser? Their athletic teams are called The Clan. Sounds kind of hostile and abusive to me. Although, I guess St. Cloud might like that name.
  13. No recruit is a lock until they get registered for school. But, how many recruits can you think of that committed to UND that haven't ended up playing for the Sioux? Even after Johnathan Toews committed to the Sioux, people had their doubts that he would actually play at UND. But, he played for two years. He turned down a lot of pressure from Chicago and a lot of money to play here the second year. Oshie is another one who'd turned down a lot of money to play an extra year for the Sioux. This isn't like other places where kids will pack up and leave in the middle of the night for little or no money.
  14. There have been a lot of unconfirmed sightings, someone claims they saw him at the Las Vegas Hilton on Thursday, but when I checked directly with the General Manager he would not confirm or deny that PCM was there. Other employees at the Hilton would only say that if he was there, he had now
  15. Greg Lamoureux won't be coming to UND. He was Vancouver's 2nd pick in the WHL Bantam Draft and I'm quite sure he's already signed a contract with them. MacWilliam was one of the recruits who visited UND during the Gophers series.
  16. I think the reason Lennon has been happy lately is because the Master Plan will be going to President Kupchella soon and once he signs off on the Facility Plans, they will be released to the public. I believe the football stadium drawing is what Lennon was referring to when he said details will be released soon that have the WOW Factor. Now, if they just find "someone" who can step up and make the plans a reality.
  17. I think there's a former Fighting Sioux football player who's name would look just great on the front of that stadium. I believe his pockets are quite a bit deeper than Ralph's were.
  18. It's definitely West. If you look closely at the horizon above the Student Union, you can see the control tower at Sloulin Field Int'l Airport in Williston. And if you look straight West over the video scoreboard, you can see the Fort Union Trading Post to the Southwest of Williston.
  19. Not really, but what I really wanted to know is........How many students does this add to NDSU's enrollment numbers? How many students does this add to MSU-M's enrollment numbers? How many students does this add to CC's enrollment numbers? Does MSU-M count the same way as NDSU? Does CC count the same as NDSU?
  20. The one I like the best so far from GPL is: "With Bickel., Fairchild, Wehrs, Ness, Loftquist, Martell, Helgeson, and Eddy stacked up at D the next three years at the U, maybe it was a decision based on how much icetime he would get as a freshman. If all those boys are still around in 2010 you won't see much time on the PP." I'm sure young Mr. Mattson sat down and looked over that list of defensemen and said.....there's no way I'll crack that line-up or get any playing time. Then he looked over the Sioux defensive line-up and said......wooh, now there I can get plenty of ice-time and PP time as a freshman. I'm going to pick UND so I'm not the 7th or 8th defensman.
  21. So, if a student is enrolled at Concordia as a full-time student and pays their tuition to Concordia, but takes one class at MSU-M and takes one class at NDSU, all three schools count the student on their official enrollment numbers? Or, if a student is enrolled at MSU-M with 15 credits and takes a 2 credit gym class at NDSU, both schools count that student in their official enrollment? Does MSU-M and Concordia count students who are taking 15 credits at NDSU and only one class in Moorhead on their official enrollment numbers? How about a Technical College student in Moorhead? Why wouldn't NDSU include a Tech College student if he/she came over to Fargo and took a class......or do they? This almost sounds like Enron accounting to me.
  22. It
  23. So who claims them in their official enrollment count?
