  1. Again, not to split hairs , but I don't think DB plays mind games for this reason. His actions (or perhaps more accurately, reactions) should not come as a surprise to anyone, especially his players. I think they all know, explained to them in plain English by DB himself, what is expected of them, AND what may result if they fail to live up to expectations. Sure, he might not understand goalies, but who the hell does?
  2. No sound again for the hockey game, but it looked like if would have been Sweeney/Bredahl and I would have muted them in favor of an internet delayed Hennessey/O'Keefe anyway. No shame in being compared disfavorably to Tim/Tim. Those guys would put nearly every NHL p-b-p/color tandem to shame. One has to feel truly blessed as a Sioux fan knowing that the REA is our home arena, DB is our coach, TH is our play-by-play man, and Scott Hennen is our rink announcer. Time to show Minnecentric U that the Ralph is the home of your University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux!!! It's for sure that next weekend will present much more of a challenge than this weekend did.
  3. Wow...take a deep breath (please!). Deano doesn't play mind games IMHO. If ever there was a human being with whom which one completely understands their standing it is one Coach Dean Blais. I think you might be looking at this from the wrong angle. I think Deano made the goalie switch so that Jaker didn't give up one where his team left him out to dry (which could well have happened given the non-competiveness of the game) thereby ruining his SO. Also, I think he wanted to show JP that he still had confidence in him regardless of last night's sub-standard (freshman) performance. I think you can take it for granted that had JP not responded in kind that he would not receive such consideration again in the near future. Bottom line is DB values game performance above all else, but attitude and work ethic follow as a close second. The last couple of years may not have ended as all of us would have liked. This has not shaken one bit my faith in DB, however. IMHO, he is the finest college hockey coach in the game today, and arguably, ever. To try to split hairs in a 10-0 Sioux victory is beyond belief.
  4. Just like my house...if mama ain't happy, ain't NOBODY happy.
  5. mksioux, Yes, I did buy the system I had earlier posted a link for. The guy (a good scotsman, by the way, who looked and sounded like he could have been Jackie Stewart's son) who aimed my dish for me offers complete installation for $125. Other than the aiming, it's all pretty routine stuff. If you can say assemble a kid's bicycle and hook up a vcr, you can probably do the rest yourself.
  6. Well, I played the guinea pig and went ahead and got the digital Ku band satellite system ($199 incl. shipping). Pointing it in the right direction proved to be hopeless for a novice like myself, though I gave it several hours worth of effort. I contacted a professional that came over (with a nifty sat finding instrument) and he had it dialed in in about 5 minutes. Cost me another $30, but it was money well spent. Even got to watch most of the second half of the UNO-UND football game (no sound though)! Now I'm all set up for the hockey game tonight and hopefully far into the future! I'm pretty damn happy how things have turned out so far. GREAT PICTURE!
  7. Nice to see the boys finally got that UNO monkey off their backs, although it would've been nice to do have done without all the dramatics . They should treat all further opponents as if they are UMC, then maybe they could win without giving me a coronary! NICE WIN GUYS (when the goin' gets tough....)
  8. Yeah! And you can call it the North Central Conference! Hey... wait a minute..where have I heard that name before?
  9. UNDLAW, I have some specific questions that I hope you can answer. You seem to have more knowledge about the topic than anyone else frequenting this board. Did you get a chance to look at the system I referenced in an earlier post? The link, for convenience, is listed below: http://mysatpros.gemspot.com/cgi-bin/mysatpros/00500.html I'm only interested in picking up the Sioux hockey games off satellite, nothing else (I already have cable). It will work for unscrambled FTA (Free-To-Air) DVB (Digital Video Broadcast, I believe) MPEG-2 broadcasts. It will not work for feeds using the Digicipher-2 protocol. Is it your understanding that this system will work for picking up the Sioux hockey feed? Also, I have not been able to find the referenced frequency on either of the free directories (such as LyngSat) for satellite feeds. Should this be of any particular concern? Any help you can provide will be much appreciated.
  10. I guess I don't understand what you mean by this. From what I understand, REA pays the satellite owner (which I believe is PanAmSat) to carry the signal for the games. As far as I know, there is no other "station" involved, but I'm probably not properly understanding your usage of the term. As far as scrambling goes, I don't see how that would benefit them unless they were to able to be carried on a pay-service satellite system (like DirectTV) or by a cable operator. As far as I know there is not a simple way to scramble a feed and then charge individuals that may want to view the feed. They'd just be scrambling it and nobody could watch it, so why broadcast via satellite at all? I'm pretty sure that the investment necessary to get DISH or DirectTV to add them is pretty substantial. They may be offering the unscrambled feed in hopes of building up enough of a market to be attractive to DISH, DirectTV or a regional or niche network (maybe CSTV?). In any case, it will take time, and for $200, you don't have to make many trips to Senser's before you've spent that much. If I could be sure of getting a couple seasons out of it I'd feel it was worth while. My biggest fear is putting down the $200, only to find out that significantly more equipment (which means $) is really needed before you can see the games.
  11. What s2c said!
  12. Just watched the archived version of the Concordia game. Definitely getting better. Also should be commended for having Tim Hennessey on play-by-play instead of Sweeney the weenie. Great interview with Ryan Hale at the end in the Scott Hennen Post Game Show. Ryan's really an impressive young man.
  13. Incidentally, I've been looking for a way to get the hockey broadcasts at home. I think the following link may be able to provide the necessary equipment at a farily reasonable price: http://mysatpros.gemspot.com/cgi-bin/mysatpros/00500.html If there are any satellite experts out there that can render an opinion on whether this stuff will do the job, I'd be really interested in hearing it. As of now, I'm leaning towards ordering it. If I follow through, I'll let anyone that's interested know how it works out.
  14. What about UC-Davis, O Wise One?
  15. Amen to that. As Sicatoka always says, "The only pole that matters..."
  16. Sounds to me like a pretty low risk investment for the city's taxpayers. Funding of a water park that is needed anyway to replace the old city pool. Some property tax breaks to developers on land that the city surely is not collecting a lot of tax on now anyway. The return? Something to pull in tourists, conventions, and maybe even some new coporate hq's. Current motel owners may whine, but I doubt they'll be going after the same customers.
  17. I'm sure that if there is any chance of further injury, Coach Blais will keep him out until he's 100%. And that is exactly as it should be. He's got a big future in front of him, play it safe. Listen to the doctors, not Zach. I'm sure he'll want to go even if it is not in his own best interest.
  18. REALITY CHECK UMN did not look good tonight, but it is VERY early. I'm sure they are still hung over from being 2 time champs (I hope with all the fiber of my being that the Sioux should someday soon be so fortunate). I'd feel a lot better if they lost the 1st round of the NCAA's 4-0 instead of the 1st game of the season. And make no mistake about it, they will make the NCAA's this season, regardless of how much I would like for it to be otherwise. As Woogie, in his somewhat less than infinite wisdom (understatement of recorded history), stated, this may be just exactly what UMN needed.

Worked for me. It is a pdf file. Do you have Acrobat Reader?
  20. I don't think this needs to be looked at as a demotion for Ryan H. As the composition of the team changes from year-to-year, different leadership styles may be more appropriate. Maybe Andy S. has a leadership style that resonates better with this year's team, just as Ryan's may have been better suited to last year's team. Ryan H. is still after all wearing an "A", so it's not like he's being totally cast aside. Congrats to all three. I'm sure they'll all agree that it's a great honor to wear a letter on a Sioux hockey sweater, whether that letter is a "C" or an "A".
  21. GE, This is the SI we are talking about: SI
  22. Woog's predictions are just following 'conventional wisdom'. If there is one thing we know will be true at season's end, it will be that 'conventional wisdom' will fail to be wholly accurate, maybe not even mostly accurate. And as Sagard says, who cares what anyone else thinks? Spammy, Yappy and Woog say what they say hoping to get a rise out of Sioux fans. Why reward them by getting hot-under-the-collar?
  23. In the replay on dataflix (shown after the game, I think when they were interviewing Stafford) which was from straight above the goal, it looked pretty conclusively like it went 5-hole. From all the other angles I thought it went to Reichmuth's right, but by far the best view was from above the goal.
  24. Or are they running pass routes where they are open, but the QB isn't finding them? Maybe someone that's been to all the home games can shed some light?
