I recently got this message from a member of the Sioux Hockey group on Yahoo! I thought someone on this board would be able to help considering that you are all avid Sioux hockey followers and probably know a lot more about the history of the team than I do. Sadly, I have only been an avid fan for a little more than six years.
The gentleman writes....
"I'm an avid genealogist and discovering a distant relative who played
for UND briefly, a goalie out of Grand Forks. His parents were Joseph
Borovsky and Martha Nienas (I'm related by marriage to the Nienas)
Bill was 20 when he was killed in a car crash Oct 2, 1956. Reading
the newspaper articles about it it sounds like it was alcohol
related, the truck driver hit Bill while he was stopped at a train
crossing and pushed him into the train, and they said the cab of the
truck was full of beer bottles. What a waste, a young man like that.
And back in those days, I doubt there was ever any criminal charges
against this killer. Anyway, I have picture of JJ and Martha but
would love to have a picture of Bill, especially if there's one in
his hockey gear for the Sioux."
Anyone have any ideas on where I could locate old photos? Maybe the Grand Forks Public Library? Your help would be much appreciated. Thank You!
