A great night of hockey line up here on the tube in Michigan: UND vs. Denver-FSC MSU vs. Wis-FSP (They're mentionn the Kaip fight) Washington vs. Florida-NHL Network Detroit vs. Columbus-(Detroit sucking...) Haven't been on the forum during a game in quite awhile. Looking forward to following the game via the eyes of other Sioux fans. Sioux win tonight! Go Sioux.

I didn't think it was negative in any way. I was fascinated by the article. When I have the opportunity to visit family in the Dakotas (primarily South) I take time to just drive around and maybe walk among the old abandoned homesteads out in the middle of nowhere. It really makes you think about the people that lived there and how they lived. It's a great piece of history I hope no one forgets. I think it was great to have an article and photographs to bring this to light. I would like to think that this article makes others think about those that settled out here. Lots of history of what I think are some of the toughest, strongest people in the country.

UND did win in when they were out last in 2001. Was at the GLi this weekend. A good performance by Tech. Was really pulling for them but I guess some one had to lose. I think they really took it to U of M, proving that the Wolverines, while not a bad team, their SOS isn't like others. (That has already been discussed elsewhere). It was exciting to hear at the end of the awards ceremony that UND will be there next year. As I was wearing my Sioux jerseys, etc., I heard a lot of positive feedback from a number of people (U of M, MSU and Tech fans alike) that UND will be there. Several U of M fans were hoping they would still be the Fighting Sioux come next GLi. Hadseveral families from the Grand Forks area who where back in the state visiting family stop and chat with me as they notice my Sioux jersey. Always nice to visit with fellow Sioux fans. I guess wearing your Sioux stuff makes one stick out in a sea of U of M, MSU and Tech colors. Any way... very much looking forward to seeing the Sioux in my back yard (more or less) but let's get through this season first. GO SIOUX!!

Yeah... I first seen it during the Penguins game on the 23rd.

You may have seen it already, but if not... USA Hockey is promoting their Hockey Weekend Across America in February through a variety of mediums, one being a television commercial which I see repeated on the NHL Network. There is a Sioux Fan shown in the commercial (not sure if it's at the REA or at this past Frozen Four). Didn't know if anyone could identify the Sioux fan or if it may be one of our own SiouxSports.com posters. Regardless, I thought it was pretty cool that the Fighting Sioux were represented in the ad. http://usahockey.cachefly.net/HWAA2008VideoPromo.mp4 I attached the link to the video. It's an MP4 so you'd need Quicktime to run it. Hopefully it works. Go Sioux!!

Merry Christmas to Sioux fans everywhere. May you enjoy this time with your family and friends to remember the reason for the season... Then back to college hockey on the 28th and 29th!

Nice equation!

Finally turn it on in the 3rd. Way to go Sioux! I just hope they don't wait until the 3rd period tomorrow. But a win is a win. Sweep tomorrow night!

As long as we win but it definitely has not been a good game. How much JPL can keep us in the game... Thankfully he's on top of his game tonight. Things will turn the Sioux way in the 3rd (they just gotta...) Back upstairs to watch the game.... Go Sioux!

It seems that when you talk about college hockey to others, just saying "Fighting Sioux" says it all. They know who you're talking about. They know of the tradition, pride, excellence, etc. that "Fighting Sioux" entails. But the words "North Dakota" precede the words "Fighting Sioux." Just saying "North Dakota" in reference to college hockey conjurs up the same defintion of college hockey greatness, tradition, pride, excellence, etc. Since it seems that the words "Fighting Sioux" may not be used sooner rather than later (I'm always hoping against hope... but that is obviously dwindling at a rapid pace), why not just use what we all know and hold dear... "North Dakota." Why add to it? When you have something really, really good (a good wine or beer, a good food recipe, a good ____________ whatever...) you don't screw with it. If anything, we only do something to make it better. In my opinion they may have taken away the words "Fighting Sioux" but they can't take away "North Dakota." Adding to it doesn't make it better than what it already is. Go ahead... just say it to yourself... "North Dakota." Swirl it around, take a taste, enjoy it... "North Dakota." Need I say more...?

Here's my future Goon in Madison last Friday http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFwqbFKLQws

City/state born in and reside in now? Born in Jamestown, North Dakota. Live in Bay City, MI Did you attend UND? Nope Favorite current player? Duncan, Finley, Oshie Favorite all-time Sioux player(s)? Travis Zajac, Mike Pripch, Jonathon Toews Favorite all-time NON Sioux WCHA player/team? No particular player. Colorado College Are you a season ticket holder? Boy wouldn't that be something... unfortunately no. Seen Wisconsin play the Sioux at the Ralph a few years ago for a birthday present. Caught the Sioux at the Lefty McFadden. Relegated to watching them on the computer and occassionally on the t.v. when available. Catch the GLI (Hope the rumor is true about UND at the 2008 GLI), CCHA tournament every year and some MSU games. Will be there for the MSU vs. Minnesota game on Friday, November 23rd wearing my Sioux clothing. There is absolutely nothing close to live Sioux hockey though. Is the bye-week over yet?

Without a doubt, it's game day... Bringing things back into some perspective!

This is a very disappointing outcome after all of the money, time and energy that was spent fighting this. However, I'm attempting to remain somewhat optimistic (which is actually pretty hard to do in this case) that when they agreed to settle this, there is something more behind it than what we yet know. In my current job, I deal with settlements on somewhat of a regular basis. My experience of settlements is that there is some type of a compromise for the parties involved. Obviously no one gets everything they wanted, but they get something. There's usually a reason and some logic behind every settlement that brings some type of benefit to parties involved. It seems on the face of it, that UND got squat out of the deal, other than some supposed moratorium for three years unless we get tribal approval. I think many would agree that this seems like a farce at best. Oh... I forgot how the NC00 is supposed to say, "They're really not hostile and abusive..." However; I find it hard to believe that this is all UND gets out of the settlement. I'm hoping against hope that there has been some work, behind what we are seeing that is setting up UND to keep the Fighting Sioux name; thus ultimately agreeing to this settlement. As it's been mentioned earlier on this thread, "Let's wait and see..." I really think that's what we have to do. It's certainly hard to do but it needs to be done. Of course, I'm not suprised by much any more and after we see the real aspect of this settlement (beyond the early reports, etc.) if this is indeed all UND gets out of the deal, then it would just reinforce my belief that the fans, tradition, etc. still don't mean s&!t when it comes to the almighty $. It remains to be seen... Until the day they actually, officially retire the Fighting Sioux name... I truly remain a fan of the FIGHTNG SIOUX!

The Blizzard... that's the name of our County's Hockey Association... I've always like it. But not as much as I like(d) the Fighting Sioux...
-
I have to question that one too... 2007 NCAA National champions playing the #1 ranked team in NCAA hockey in the Hall of Fame game and not one of those dopey networks can pick it up. I get all of the ESPN and Fox Sports channels and no one of them is showing it. But they will show the Ice Breaker Invitational. What a joke. But I supposed I'm biased being a Sioux fan. But hey... I am registered to watch it on the computer! So all is not lost I guess...

An unequivocable YES it should stay!

Great article to get things kicked off for the 2007-2008 season. Reading it gave me goosebumps as to what this upcoming season might be! Drop that puck! As always, thanks PCM!!

This is all very good information for those with beer bellies that may wish to purcahse one in the future (which would include me). Beer bellies and form fitting don't go hand in hand !
