Only weaknesses (and I’m nitpicking ALOT) the D maybe isn’t the deepest if they have an injury like Schafer pop up as it did last year And then for some reason Ivankovic falters but that’s unlikely. He’s been nails in every world tournament he plays in

2025-26 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

2 things I’d like to see this upcoming year (we’ll see if they come to fruition…) Defensemen activating more in the offensive zone and getting involved in the cycle. (From my view the past couple of years there seemed to be an unwillingness to go low to high and get the D involved at times) Ultra aggressive forecheck similar to how Florida sets up where even the D have a free rein to pressure up and hem pucks in the zone. Smaby had a coaching clinic video I’d seen where he laid out a system pretty similar to above so curious if him and Jax decide to apply that. -
I'm of the mindset he'll want to get the commitment out of the way so he doesn't have to deal with the distraction of questions during the WHL season. I just get the feeling he wont want to drag out the commitment like Mckenna and his team did - he seems like a different personality based on the interviews i've heard him on. Based on his social media following he also seems more clued in on the college scene than Mckenna was. The one big caveat would be if he wants to know exactly the situation of what each team's blue line will look like in the 2026 - in that case it would be a July commitment likely post draft (will be interesting to see)

Looks like the Alerus is going cashless this year for football. Curious if the Ralph is doing the same thing for the upcoming season? -
Agreed with this thinking alot. He'll be 20 in October. From the Hawks perspective you'd like to see him take a step up in competition and see how he produces so they have a little better grasp on what they have as a prospect. He'll have every opportunity to grab a 1st line winger spot at Nodak if he earns it.
-
Also had an all time funny goal where (I think intentionally?) from below the red line, he blasted a 1 timer off of a D mans knee cap and into the net haha

Goalie Mason Courville out of PA follows Nodak and Penn State on insta (assuming he's an August 1 2026 commit based on his birth date). Looks like he's headed to Flint next year in the OHL. Based on the way the US has been producing goalies compared to Canada the past few years the CHL is gona reap the rewards of any US goalies they can swing up North for JR before they jump to the NCAA. Did a quick stat dive to compare the CHL to the NCAA for goalies with a .910 and above (seems to check out with the scoring being higher in the CHL) NCAA - 42 (compared to 24 in the CHL) OHL - 6 (NCHC had 7 goalies alone with a 0.910 above) WHL - 8 Q - 10

Ya think he can fit the role of whatever the team needs from him. It'll be a fight to get into the lineup likely his first/2nd year but I think he'll be understanding of that and definitely assuming that's what the coaching staff laid out to him. Seems so far this staff knows its a risk with depth players leaving but if you're going to have depth players they better be damn good and able to step in (The days of just having a depth guy to have one seem to be over - For example sake, number 10 IMO is an example of that old thinking)
-
The only catch with Chyzowski is if there was one coach in the nation you'd put him with to humble him it would probably be David Carle hah:/
-
The chart comparing salary / bonuses of the 2 coaches is a little off-putting but maybe that's just me. (especially with it seeming kind of obvious they didn't part on the best of terms...)
-
I'm guessing he would've been offer sheet eligible next summer and they wanted to get ahead of someone offering then driving up the price. Seems like a risk to those on the outside but if he scored 50-60 points next year none of us would be shocked. He also has a good cocky aura about him which IMO Carolina desperately needs on that team to help push them over the hump if you're going to beat a team like Florida in the playoffs.

I thought the "new timeline" phrasing was announcing that it was delayed but not the case actually so good to hear they'll be ready to play there in fall of 2027. The one big takeaway from reading about the new arena was grab and go stations where you just scan and pay yourself. Really hope the REA team can get these added soon. (would definitely help cut down beer lines). Texas has it at their new basketball arena and it works VERY smoothly.

2025-26 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

Definitely more of a fan of these than the previous version. No numbers on the front is a big improvement, like the simple design as mentioned above (better than throwing to much color etc on the jersey) , 90s throwback vibe with the "North Dakota" script. (For some reference I'm aged late 20s with family members that went to UND in the 90s and I think this jersey will appeal to both my demographic + that 90s demographic - maybe I'm way off though who knows haha) -

Speaking of injuries - seems that Laurilla might be banged up currently. (They replaced him with a different defenseman for WJC summer showcase today) -
Not to mention having games in a big metro area would objectively make it easier for any away fans to travel to games if they wish. The current model has almost no games played in a major city. (which in turn "should" make it easier for TV crews to get there - another big argument or Wodon's concerns about feasibility) ASU (Phx) / Denver / Boston schools / MSP (gophers) are all very possible hosts for NCAA games.
-
The odds of games being played directly in the city of Boston would be pretty high based on BU / BC being consistently good (then throw in Harvard and Northeastern once in awhile). Having big time playoff hockey in that city would be great to showcase the game. (Same story with the gophers hosting in Minneapolis.) Making random people notice at bars before and after games in those major cities is a great way for people to take notice of the sport. BU and BC you could argue have actually been hurt the past 20 years for fan base growth because instead of playing it in their metro they ship the meaningful playoff games to random east coast locations.

Pretty much anything that doesn't include the god awful hawk logo I'm in favor for haha. -
Ya he ran cam in the 2017 frozen face off ship. Wolanin made sure to get as many shots in on Pionk before the refs pulled him off

Armstrong definitely seems to be a pretty big fan of the NCAA route. Based on his comments it appears he is leaning towards not rushing Desnoyers development and having him put on some weight.
-
Was curious to see how the staff ironed out chasing some high end recruits while having back up plans. Seems like they were upfront with him about the process which he seemed to appreciate
-
Brampton was trying there best to put Martone in an awkward spot. They posted about him coming back there for a charity game event a week or 2 ago. (curious if they even asked him before posting that)
-
If money was the swaying factor for Martone + with him very likely being a 1 year player those 2 factors may have turned off UND's staff. Desnoyers is an April birth date, slighter build, and could probably stand to use a couple years to develop in the NCAA in lieu of being 1 and done. He's likely going to the WJC showcase in MSP later this week (there was a note about him maybe being banged up so that's why i'll say "likely" . Hopefully he takes a stop in Forks before heading there and we can get him to commit on the spot after walking the ralph.

So ... Why in the world did McKenna go to Penn state? Just gets more baffling as time moves on in my opinion.
