I'd agree with that thinking - add another high end center so we have options in the top 6. I think you can sell to Reschny and another high end WHL player (IE Cootes) that in year 1 you're going to be on the wing some. Then by year 2 you jump into playing center full time in the top 6 after you've adjusted more to the college game.

Curious there hasn’t been an announced commitment from Ryder Ritchie to BU yet. Wondering if he is maybe rethinking things?

If I was Carle I would've given him the Mic solo for 10 minutes and not said a word. I'd let him stumble through has piss poor stance for 10 minutes haha. Also - who in college hockey (Fans or coaches) has every truly complained about using the pairwise for seeding? I feel like he might be the only one that even has that stance.

Thankfully I think most NHL teams if they are posed the question would say they slightly prefer the NCAA development over the CHL - especially with the number of top end and older recruits that are leaving the CHL where it stands today. I'm sure there are a couple wild card NHL teams that think opposite but overall college has produced so many recent impact players. (Hutson and Celebrini being in the Calder top 3 definitely helps for recency bias haha)

^^^ Ya it sounds like a majority of CHL players will wait to decide on the NCAA route after they’ve been drafted and chat with their NHL team to see what they prefer

Also if you get into the weeds, who would be his top line center to play with at Penn state? If there were rumors of another high end center going there it might be a different discussion but I've not heard much? (Hagens for BC, Boisvert for BU, even Reschny for UND are more legit scenarios as of today)

At this point call me paranoid but I’m almost convinced Penn state may have some person in hockey media in their pocket. I don’t see how they are at all in the mix for McKenna over MSU, Michigan, BC, BU, or even UND. You have to build up for a generational recruit of his stature. You don’t land him out of the blue IMO. The Jackson smith news almost proves it. He was rumored to be committed last week and it appears that is pretty far from being a done deal at this point

Him and dupont would be a nice package for 2026. Only thing is if he dominates the dub next year he would likely only be a one year player at UND.

I'm hopelessly optimistic but I've always thought if UND needs to put up money to get players a quick deposit can always be made from the Engelstad fund. Still a little skeptical thats true tho because I didn't think at all that we had paid them really anything - outside of whatever local sponsor deals they would get through the collective.

Players waiting on the draft to commit to teams while UND was able to pitch to Reschny well enough that he just committed regardless seems to be a positive sign. Seems like a sign that he just wants to be here which is awesome.

I should’ve clarified just wingers, I must’ve missed kindel when I was looking at lists. he’d be a nice get Brady Martin would be awesome to see him run guys through the glass but he’s an OHL guy so think odds are slim

What's the specific eligibility issue with Carter bear? Assuming someone heard through the grape vine that he is missing too many core credits that he cant get done in time over the summer? Obviously outside of McKenna he seems like the next best guy to go out and get. Seems to be a player Jax and co would love based on how he plays.

Not sure if the recruitment is actually down to 3 teams. Mike McMahon wrote this just yesterday. I do agree on the Penn State comments, feels like a weird fit. Michigan state is maybe the one exception, but if he does do any tours I'd only expect to see him tour blue bloods.

Ya I’m in the same boat I actually don’t mind him. He just has some very odd takes / actions out of no where some times haha. Outside of that I appreciate his love for college hockey. Yes he loves the star players probably too much but I always feel like he’s doing it from a place of trying to help market and grow the game

I think for fun and games we allow the sabres to cheat like this. Seeing them still find a way to mess it up while doing so would be hilarious

Bucci posting that the night before the biggest game of his career for his current team is just an odd move. (Hopefully not) But there’s a chance now McKenna is gona have to answer this post game from a reporter, don’t envy the spot he’s in. Weird move from Bucci because you’d think he would get this dynamic. if it’s a an actual troll move from Bucci at the CHL that makes it somewhat funny though haha

Might be just me but I don't think the team will depend too much on EJ for offense and shouldn't need to (any added offense will be a bonus definitely) . As long as he can maintain and keep improving his stopping on the defensive end he'll be playing his role to a T. Excited to see him keep taking steps. Him and Zmolek have the potential to be the shut down anchors on the pairs they are on.

As a comparison - I think people forget that a !@#$ ton of freshmen don’t even play in CFB their first year - they either play sparingly or redshirt. And the freshman that do play a lot are freak athletes (really college hockey is a similar story once you look at it)

To expand on what Schloss said he didn’t say it’s a done deal either way. He is just guessing (like yall said) based on the offers that he’s heard thrown around for McKenna. For what it’s worth the gents on the called up prospects pod seemed to think he wouldn’t just take the biggest bag (safe to assume he’s gona make plenty of money in the show) The number one aspect is the school is going to have to sell him on how they can better him as a hockey player. Could just be them being naive but who knows

I’m a little more optimistic than most. Naurato seeming to be kinda incompetent might help us out in the recruitment. We’ll hear his commitment in the next 1-2 weeks after the memorial cup is over. He’s gona get some ridicule for going the NCAA route so don’t blame him for waiting to commit post CHL season
