Seattle University Volleyball Schedule Seattle was able to put together a very, very nice looking volleyball schedule. We should only be so lucky. And I see that Seattle has chosen volleyball as their fast track program that will be post season eligable after 2 seasons. Is UND just not planning on doing this? I didn't say give the student government or the school newspaper the right to choose the new name. I just said to give it time and let one surface on its own. That is how all of the best nicknames out there came about.
-
Yes, because UND never made the playoffs before ndsu left and DII became watered down. More bison spew.
-
I don't think too many people ever bought into the act that he was actually trying to do anything to keep the name. As far as a new name, I just hope that the University doesn't rush it. Just give it time and let one naturally come about. The worst thing they could do is come up with as many variations of hawk/redhawk/riverhawk/warhawk they can think of and then have an online poll. The best old nicknames out there have come about unofficially in things such as student newspapers, etc.

So it has been over a month. Has anyone heard anything? Anyone know if they are close to done/releasing it?
-
It appears that at this point there are still 3 FCS schools that have yet to release an "official" schedule: Alabama State, Davidson and Jackson State. Of course they could possibly still be in talks with a team that has released their schedule to try to be their 11th or 12th game. The most likely scenario is that a NAIA team is added at the last second. But if I was the AD I wouldn't even do that. Even though it would add a home game it would just make the schedule look even worse by adding a NAIA game along with the DII and DIII games. At this point I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for another game to be added. But I hope I'm wrong and they line up an amazing home game.

On the contrary. Smoking has been banned from essentially every single public place and private business. It is the anti-smokers who are looking to take away absolutely every single last right of smokers to have a few select businesses that choose to allow smoking. I don't see how you could make that statement with a straight face or even begin to believe it. I guess I just don't understand why it is so difficult for some to grasp the idea that they ALREADY have the right to go to bars that don't allow smoking. Why do some feel so self righteous that they can't allow others the same right to choose to patronize a place that allows someone to smoke.

Basically it looks like an all sports scheduling alliance. But I am sure there are people who have their fingers crossed that it may someday grow into more than that. Highly unlikely though. With an announcement to be made by UTPA by June 23, my thoughts are that these schools are already onboard. UND USD Texas - Pan American Houston Baptist Utah Valley University Chicago State Seattle U And I believe that these independent schools are still on the fence. My guess is that they are possibly looking at only joining in specific sports due to the huge travel that would be involved. NJIT (M & W basketball) Longwood (M & W basketball) Savanah State (M & W basketball, football?) Possible others Idaho State (softball) Weber State (softball) Northern Colorado (softball & baseball) Hawaii - Hilo (baseball) Can anyone else think of school that may look to join in individual sports?

UTPA looking into Great West conference
-
Anyone else think this should be a thread of it's own? I'm going to split it off.
-
I was kind of surprised that we hadn't heard more about a formal basketball scheduling alliance. It appears they have just taken it a step further and are looking at a more formal all sports scheduling aliance. Not a bad idea. At least if you can do as many sports under one banner it would seem to give it a little more credit/importance. Obviously Cal Poly and UC Davis are in the Big West and SUU is in the Summit for their other sports. That leaves just UND and USD for Great West schools looking at this. So that gives us UND, USD, UTPA, UVSU, NJIT, CSU and possibly Longwood that are interested. While the article doesn't mention Seattle I would assume they would be interested. Unless they are in more serious discussions with the WCC now and already know what their future holds. Plus there may be some schools that may be interested in joining in just one sport such as Idaho State in softball. Grom has been busy. I always thought he saw the Great West FC as someday being closely tied to the Summit. A wrench was thrown into that plan when the SUs left for the Missouri Valley Football Conference.

If you had said weaker I would have just rolled my eyes and been done with it. But this is just typical bison spew that anything without them is worthless. Why don't you take your dribble back over to www.bisonville.smacktalk.com where it will be appreciated.

Just one more right for educated people to make their own educated choices taken away. Disappointing.

Because we are not Notre Dame. Part of the move to DI should be about name/image branding for UND and helping to make it a more recognizable university nationwide. Using a logo that most of North America recognizes as another university isn't exactly going to do that. I personally would like to see UND stop using the interlocking ND and either us the flame logo or find a new one that everyone would see and recognize as the University of North Dakota. And the move to DI where many people will be introduced to UND for the first time would be the logical time to do it.

Tribal council bans vote on nickname

Both the Volleyball Page and the Soccer Page at FightingSioux.com have countdowns going until the season starts. I would hope that they would be releasing the schedules here shortly. I knew that scheduling was going to be very difficult for football and basketball in their first seasons. But with as much time as we have had since the announcement that we were moving up, I would have thought we would see better schedules. Especially in some of the less visable sports, i.e. volleyball, soccer, softball, etc. Most DI teams play at least a couple games against lower division teams in most sports.

Or our facilities? And he is a Cal graduate. If he is hired I wouldn't expect to see him around very long. Just long enough to get "Head Coach" on his resume. But who knows what the future holds. Maybe he will build UND into a baseball dynasty if he is hired.
-
Pretty much any Sioux fan will tell you this isn't a very impressive schedule. I would take a NCC schedule over this one anyday. The difference is that Sioux fans will tell you this isn't a great schedule. Bison fans would be trying to convince everyone how difficult it is.
-
Who ever is posting the photos online has a sence of humor. Check out the caption on this photo. Looks like the north end line is just going to say "North Dakota" I just hope that they stay away from the interlocking ND.
-
That actually would be a decent 12 team conference. The partners work out pretty well. Denver would help bridge SUU to the conference creating a better conference footprint. There are some football connections; 3 Gateway, 3 Great West. And Denver's status as a Core member would be very appealing to the Summit. I'd be happy with UND playing in a conference that included the cities of Denver, Kansas City and Indianapolis.
-
Wow. You obviously have the blinders on if you can't see why everyone outside of fargo didn't like this guy. And no, it's not just UND supporters that don't like him.
-
Let me know the next time you are in Mayville. I go to alot of the Comet's athletic games. The DAC is a fun conference to follow. And I guess I don't see why people are so worked up about a schedule that isn't even out yet. We have been seeing these DAC and NSIC schools on our schedules for years and years in all of our sports. The only thing about it now is that as we go through the transition we will hopefully see less of these schools and more schools that are similar to UND. The NCAA limits the number of non-DI games in basketball to a very small number. (Somebody who has memorized the NCAA manual help me out. I think it is 2 regular season plus 1 or 2 exhibition?) Fixed it for ya.

I believe that they will be playing in two seperate tournaments. At least this is what I had originally heard. I believe that one is going to be at the beginning of the season and the other over the holidays. However, when I heard this the teams for the tournaments were not set in stone.
