I know I am pulling up an old post but the other day before the football game against Central Washington I heard some of the athletic department people talking about how they still have the bleacher creature costume sitting around somewhere. THey were talking about how stinky it was and the fact that they usually jut wore the head with a jersey and some green Zubas!!! Anyone have any pics of this? PS I am going to be the one who brings back zubas!!!

I have to say that I love the prarie dogs. It is a north dakota version of the gophers. I should love the GOPHER idea considering that it was my high school mascot, Grenora Gophers (ND). But prarie dogs is an origional idea that fits ND perfect. I say either Norskies or Prarie Dogs!!!! Those would by my two choices if UND was going to change it's nickname. If it was going towards UND I would have to say Norskies! 1.UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA FIGHTING NORSKIES!!!!!!!!!! 2. UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA PRARIE DOGS! there are alot of logos that would work with that.

Of course it could be until next year before we see if he tries to grow some balls and change anything. Aparantly this year is already set up. Wonder if he had any say at-all what happens at UND hockey games this year. He was probably told when and where they were going to happen.

I have never claimed to have any inside knowledge of anything when it comes to sioux sports as others always claim to have "inside knowledge". But I can say that I do know people who are part of the FSC who are very upset and know of many other people in the group who are also "pissed off". If UND has any control of its program it should realize this. Weather or not they do something about it or ignore it and worshiop the select few "big donors" is yet to be seen. From what I have heard from these people in the FSC, RT knows about them being upset, we just have to see if he does something about it or worship the REA staff again!!

Cratter, If that is the case you should also count the how many aviation students in the various states that who are full time students at other colleges but take only their aviation class through UND. UND doesn't count any of those students, so why does NDSU, trying to play catch up? "UND will continue to expand the number of distance education students as it grows toward the 14,000 target. The University has more than doubled its distance education programs (from eight to 21) in the past ten years, according to Dr. James Shaeffer, Dean of Continuing Education. Shaeffer said his division, which coordinates workshops, conferences, and similar learning opportunities, serves an additional 10,500 people who are not included in UND

No one has ever claimed that UND is student friendly. Name me one office on campus that cares more about the students than it does itself. Almost a month into school and I am still fighting with the financial aid office. I don't even know if I am getting financial aid yet this fall!!!! I am tired of UND thinking that it is some big company that is just here to turn a profit and doesn't care about anything else such as how things affect the students.

I have to say that I like GreenBayGuy's idea of Dakota Flood. I also like MafiaMan's Norskies. That is a name some of us had talked about in 2000 when the big sioux issue was going on. Go with a scandinavian/viking theme. And I am 100% norwegian and I will be the first to testify that I will not be insulted.

Gee, what does that sound like?

Does anyone know where I can see this or how I can get a copy? I had never hear of this until now. WHen was it made?

One problem I see with being able to play each sport in a different division is that you would end up with thousands of conferences. Such as the NCC, it would end up basically being a basketball conference, we would have to start up a new DI-aa conference for our football programs(or join the GWFC), and I am sure there are schools that would drop some of their sports down to DIII. The whole concept of a conference would be basically thrown out of the window with all the sports playing in different divisions. Hey, I believe this is my 100th post. Next goal, hitting four figure numbers.

Actually UND and NDSU have plans to play each other in baseball.
-
Yeah, we could also put up lighting at Memorial and play some night games there. Or maybe Red River will let us play a couple of games in their gym. This isn't some junior high traveling team. UND should have one home for basketball, and as far as I am aware that was supposed to be the purpose for the Betty.
-
UNI's new arena sure looks pretty nice. I wish that was more what the betty was like. Then we wouldn't really even have to worry about playing in the ralph.
-
If we can build the Betty for 7 million imagine the arena that could be built with up to 16 million. Now that would be a nice arena.

Just pulled this from the June 2004 Dimensions magazine. Don't know if it pertains at all to what we are talking about but I found it interesting. Peer institutions provide benchmarks for comparison The Long-term Finance Plan tracks the University

This is completely just my opinion, but how can you not consider UND the flagship of ND? I consider NDSU a good school, but the fact that we have a great med-school, law school, and the nations best aerospace program says quite a bit.
-
My bad. guess I should have gotten my facts straight before posting!

Just watched Troy State(DI-AA) beat Missouri(DI) 24-14. Who says that UND and NDSU couldn't be doing that to Minnesota some day? They were talking about how Troy has won NAIA and DII national championships and now they are beating DI teams. That is quite the road traveled to go from NAIA to beating DI teams.
-
Anyone who considers NDSU the flagship of ND must also be considering WIlliston State College and Lake Region.

This "arms race" is just like in the business world. A company has to decide what products they want to invest money in. Hopefully the public loves the product and purchases alot of it. It is all a risk taking business but when you make the right move, it all pays off. You just don't know if it will pay off until you make the commitment.

ESPN to launch ESPNU, a new college-based network
dakotadan replied to ethanm's topic in Men's Hockey
I sure hope that it is on basic cable. I am not a huge fan of pro-sports. I would much rather watch a DIII college game than a pro. It woud be great if espnu and cstv are next to each other on the tube, I will spend the rest of my life switching between those two channels. -
Very good point BisSioux!

I have heard talk about this for a while but am glad to hear it is a go. I understand the emphasis on fb and bb but I hope they really don't forget about the other sports they have listed. It would be great to see some DII and DIII games of the week. If they are going to show high school, why not DII and DIII.
