Exactly, it is your opinion. And the rest of us can have opinions too. I think that the Fighting Hawk nickname sucks. I'm not trying to cling to the Sioux nickname by saying this. I'm not a bad UND alumnus for saying this. I'm not a bad season ticket holder for saying this. I'm saying that I think the new nickname sucks and that is my opinion. And it's not going to change because you tell me to get over it or to move on.

I have talked directly with people who were involved in the negotiation. The final terms of the settlement were MUCH more favorable to UND than what the NCAA originally sat down at the table with. It's not like the NCAA was going out of its way to do any favors for UND. So for anyone to try say that Wayne Stenehjem should hold the most blame for the loss of the Sioux nickname is just flat out being naive. Like I said before, there is plenty of blame to go around. But Wayne is not at the top of the list.

You are twisting the facts/timeline around a bit. UND had every opportunity to show the NCAA that they had approval from a local tribe and been taken off of the hostile and abusive list at the same time as Florida State (not Florida). But at that point we did NOT have the support of ANY tribes. That is the reason that the lawsuit happened in the first place. We had the exact same requirements and opportunity to get rid of sanctions as FSU. Had Spirit Lake stepped up and stated their support to begin with we never would have ended up in court.

I had to go to the UND Sports app and check that I had heard the score correctly. To say I was shocked is an understatement. I didn't get a chance to watch the game. Did anyone catch any of it? What the heck happened?

Nope. We are a state flagship university that only recently moved to DI. We need to start building our own identity that people around the country recognize as the University of North Dakota's. This is even more important now that we have lost what national brand recognition we had built up with the Sioux name. The interlocking ND does the exact opposite of that. Unfortunately we horribly blew our opportunity to replace a unique, very recognizable nickname/logo when a overused bird nickname was picked for athletics. Because of how f'hawking generic Hawks is I feel it's even more important now that we move away from a logo that 99.999% of people across the country see and think of a different university that's four states away.

Fyp. And I really hope this changes with a crappy new name.

Baseball announces 2016 schedule The schedule is filled with some pretty recognizable schools. And we play both the Bison and the Bisons. From a UND baseball standpoint last year's 24-27 (16-11 WAC) record is fairly successful. Hopefully the program can build on that, keep increasing the W's, finish over .500 and be in the mix for a conference championship.
