That they are world renowned schools whos hockey programs will be right back on the college hockey map after this once in a century hiccup?
-
A very popular devil know around the world while we've been hanging out in D2, spending our time with schools called St Cloud State and just switched our nickname to the same thing as thousands of junior highs around the country!
-
I understand what you are saying. But I personally would never use the term "beast" when describing college hockey. And that for me puts it in a different light than you.

I'm not trying to convince anyone. But do people honestly think that Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Michigan State aren't going to be top dogs in college hockey again at some point? Do people really think there aren't going to be just as many years in the long run that the Bi6 finishes above the NCHC? I understand that a lot of folks who were scared of Big 10 hockey are getting their rocks off over how the NCHC and Big 6 have done comparatively. I just find that naive and frankly rather petty that people wouldn't want a school like UND to be associated with the Big 10. As unlikely as an affiliate membership is, I find it sad that in the grand scheme of things some people don't see the benefit of being part of the Big 10. I guess I would "put up" with playing Penn State and Ohio State every year if it meant having to "put up" with playing Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Michigan State at the Ralph every year. And I guess since it's such a crappy conference we'd have to "put up" with hanging Big 10 Conference Champions banners in the Ralph every year. Ish. I guess I see why that sounds so horrible.

I'm still having a crazy difficult time when I'm scrolling through a thread and accidentally hit quote or change my mind to reply. For the life of me I can never get that quote deleted. It can be days or even weeks later and it still shows up when I want to reply to a thread.

Again, do you people really see the hockey programs at Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Michigan State all forever staying in this perfect storm of down years for them? Nobody thinks that these four storied programs will ever recover and be fighting at the top of college hockey for national championships?!? And think that Penn State isn't ever going to throw itself into the national polls some too?
-
And would I rather see Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Penn State coming into the Ralph every year over Duluth, St Clown, Miami, Western Michigan, Omaha and Colorado College?!? Hell yes I would!!! The only team I'd miss is Denver. And quite frankly, since Gwoz left that rivalry hasn't been half of what it used to be. And considering the college hockey landscape and how we have to fill their rink for them every year, I'm guessing that we'd still play each other every year.

Wow. Talk about some #butthurt. When the Big Tenlevene Six hockey conference was announced everyone freaked out that it would destroy college hockey. Did it? No. But we are in a bit of a perfect storm that Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Michigan State all happen to be at low spots in their programs' histories. To think that these first two+ years will forever define the Big 6 in college hockey is just naive. I understand that UND walked into Philly and took the national trophy home to the NCHC and no Big 10 teams were there. But to think that the Bi6 is forever irrelevant in college hockey is nothing but wishful thinking. But come on. We saw a knee jerk reaction called the "National" that was supposed to include BC, BU and Notre Dame. Instead we ended up with nationally recognized schools called St Cloud State, Nebraska (not the big red in Lincoln) Omaha, and D3 Colorado College (not to be confused with CU) in our conference. If by the slightest of chances a UND president was ever offered a Big 10 affiliation in hockey, curling, debate team, Monopoly, bake sales, whatever , it would be stupid as &#@+8 not to take it.

One last little detail, please keep the logo looking left. Brien specifically designed his logo looking left to symbolically be looking at the proud history of the Sioux and all American Indians. Our new logo should also symbolically be acknowledging our nickname history and the people it represented. Everyone took great pride in honoring the American Indians of the region with our last nickname and logo. Let's prove it wasn't just lip service to try keep the old nickname by also having our new nickname and logo be a subtle nod to that proud past and history. To the people who are hoping to design our new logo, you ultimately need to research all of the meaning and emotions that Bennett Brien put into his artwork that made so many people feel overly passionate for it. It wasn't the first Sioux logo but there is a reason it is the one that so many people put in their hearts. The new nickname has absolutely no connection to the state of North Dakota, so everyone is hoping that the logo can somehow find that connection and meaning.

To continue that though about strength, dignity and confidence versus anger, overall I like this logo. But the one thing that bugs me is that I feel like this bird has tourettes and is trying to win an argument by screaming and swearing the loudest. Scream as loud as you want but ultimately logic and actions are what win in life. Close the beak and let the eyes show the strength, dignity and confidence. What was so amazing about the Sioux logo? Its ability to show those exact emotions simply by the look in its eye. Once again, I really think dagies (and others before) hit on something here. A good artist could very easily have similar white feathers overlaying black feathers on a Hawk logo like the one above as a nod to the geometric logo without it being a headdress. People have mentioned this before but I really think putting these two logos side by side shows how much a Hawk logo really could acknowledge our past.

Not much to be said that hasn't already been brought up. The consensus seems to be pretty clear that nobody wants a cartoonish bird with bulging biceps and pecs ready to throw a fisticuff while gritting its nonexistent teeth. First, our crappy new nickname isn't just Hawks, it's the FIGHTING Hawks. Second, it is going to primarily represent our sports teams. Sports is about going into competition and fighting with the goal of being victorious. But people keep saying they don't want a mean or angry looking logo. It would be easy to say that a FIGHTING Hawk should look mean or angry. Don't people or animals who are fighting usually look mean or angry? But I really think dagies nailed it in his last post and was able to articulate what most people mean when they say we don't want a mean or angry bird:

Saying that he looked OK/average in this game isn't a dig or insult at him. When FU fans and even yourself say that he did what he was asked to do in the game that doesn't scream that he lit everyone up and stood out like crazy. It just says that he looked like most other QBs who play in this scrimmage game before going on to spend some time in the NFL. You said yourself that the game is more about the scouts getting to watch the practices. From all accounts he has what it takes to spend some time on an NFL roster and play some on Sundays. But just because he is from North Dakota doesn't mean we need to all blindly say we have never seen anyone play as amazingly as he did in this game. IMHO when people ask how he played and you reply "He did what he was asked to do," that pretty much says he played "average" in relationship to all the other college QBs who've played in this game and went on to the NFL. He did what he was asked to do. Nothing more, nothing less. Wouldn't most logical people call that average?
-
But who will be on the committee? We better form a committee to decide.
-
If those straws were paid for with state taxes that were taken out of my paychecks... Then yes, I would bitch if FU was wasting straws.

FYP.

So we found out in the last week that Minnesota hockey's benchmark for success is comparing it to UND. Now we are finding out that the benchmark for success in the Summit is how the conference does again UND?

Does anyone have an ag school to English translator app on their phone?

I just can't wait to see where this shtick is going to go!
-
Apparently the baseball team was also misinformed that gray is a school color.
-
They should switch to something really unique like Crusading Hawks.
-
I'm sorry but I don't understand this. Isn't a decade a large enough sample size? What do you need to see in the next month and a half that will help you decide if Jones should continue on as the head coach or not?
-
Jones, just like the new nickname, can't be gone soon enough.
