  1. In these difficult times, I often look upward and ask, "What would the Gipper say?"
  2. You must refuse to accept a position which is diametrically unopposed to any view inconsistent with that of one which presents the logical contrapositive of the converse of my own view.
  3. Fighting Hawks definitely a surprise. May need to consider that option for next vote. For me, FH was on par with Nodaks, so either is tolerable. So, do I stick with Nodaks or switch to a winner and go Fighting Hawks? Hmmmm...
  4. I get this, but folks can manage a lot of things, Sic. They can manage a root canal or barium enema procedure, the death of a family pet, an Ebola outbreak, Nicolas Cage's acting, a Gopher NCAA title celebration, and so on. These things can be managed, if not tolerated. It's not for one to "manage" a nickname. It's to like it or not like it or just not care. I'm finding that I mostly don't care anymore, which is the intent of the NCAA all along, but I certainly can state I do not like Roughriders. I guess I care about that name in that I care that it does not become the nickname for UND. But, if it does, then I will not really care all that much anyway and still cheer for UND. taz cares. or not.
  5. Not a bad idea. First get the Nodak name in place, then go after any other UND references to the brutally awful "Roughriders." There has honestly never been a time where I stood up in front of a room full of individuals and proudly declared my North Dakota heritage with an emblem or icon of a volunteer member of a US military regiment assigned to kill Spaniards in Cuba. Yep, nothing exemplifies North Dakota more than some young rancher from a Southwest border state like Arizona or New Mexico whacking his way through the San Juan Hills to capture the city of Santiago de Cuba. Bully! taz
  6. Excellent choice! Tell the hacker to replicate that vote about 70,000 times.
  7. Ha! Wrong! My wife is letting me vote. ;)
  8. I hope "Fighting Sioux" wins, but if not, then I hope it's just "North Dakota". What? What did I say?
  9. Moore's letter is a marketing brochure. I'm betting they sell it outright, discounted pricing, so that the USHL team can rid themselves of that awful nickname and move forward with a new, respectful name everyone in Cedar Rapids can get behind and support. taz
  10. Yahoo! is run by a CEO with a spine and brains, and beauty. And soon to have twins. taz yahoos
  11. Engelstad Foundation just bought Qualtrics.
  12. I'm wondering if the University will see an uptick in new donors the next couple of days. How much $ to insure eligibility?
  13. "Taz Boy said so, and he is fantastic." -- Kate Upton, 8/24/15
  14. 1 and 1a: I don't quite understand your locus of thought here, or the particulars that led you to misplace blame on the Tribal Councils. Spirit Lake got on board, so you must mean Standing Rock? I honestly don't see why you think it's their fault? The NCAA created the rule, The State of North Dakota (led by the AG) challenged it, then the SBoHE, UND, and political leadership bungled the efforts during the 3yr period to get full approval. That Standing Rock refused to participate in that mess is understandable, and we all know how well Spirit Lake is taking it these days. 2: University of. Happy to clear that up. 3: The North Dakota name and existing logos are marketable. That you are unable to comprehend that, but Dave St. Peter can, is not really a problem to pondered for very long. 4: 16,228 and counting. You must be exhausted. 5: I'm horrified I just read that. Horrified. Did I... I... really?... just read that...? ... I... oh my... need to lie down.. where's my Fighting Sioux blanky? 6: People will have to start dying off for this issue to go away. So, yes, waiting longer will help.
  15. I'm suggesting the current logo arrangement, no changes. It is unique. That Notre Dame has a similar interlocking logo is as irrelevant as Minnesota and Michigan using big "M"s on their jerseys with different font. The identity confusion with Notre Dame has gone on for decades and is generally from football fans unfamiliar with North Dakota. I do have an interesting story to your point, however. A waiter at a Chicago sports bar noticed my Fighting Sioux logo'd shirt and started talking about how great Jonathan Toews is for the Hawks. He furthered his point by then talking about how great he was in college playing for Notre Dame. I corrected him and he refused to believe it, insisting he followed college hockey and especially Notre Dame-- he knew what he was talking about. I calmly suggested he do a quick research online and self educate. But, even with the wildly popular Brien logo, there is still association with Notre Dame. Far better that association than the countless times I'm asked about the great Bison hockey team and how awesome for Grand Forks to have 4 FCS titles, etc.
  16. Noble efforts, Chewey. But, I fear much of your logic and reason is left undigested by those of the unconstrained vision. The anti-North Dakota nickname regime is focused on creating fear, uncertainty and doubt as to the impact such a choice might have. However, we know the following to be true: Right now, the majority opinion is with "North Dakota" or the no nickname choice. Its predominantly the academic and political class that want to squelch that and move on towards a more enlightened situation. There is absolutely no penalty, or risk of same, for the UND/North Dakota option. The NCAA will move on to more pressing matters than what free persons joyfully shout out at a hockey/football/basketball game in Grand Forks, ND.The existing interlocking logo and "North Dakota" in bold font are highly marketable, to the extent that UND could ever be marketable nationwide sans the Fighting Sioux name. There is absolutely no recruiting issue with staying North Dakota, in any sport. Zero. None. It is a plus.Far from being a "dumb" idea. It is actually quite bold, unique, and respectful.UND is at least 10 years away from becoming a cowboy, bird, or atmospheric phenomena. Maybe 20. Too soon. For those of you here passionately arguing for a new name, I'm fine with your opinion, but you actually come across here as being intolerant. Taz Boy, of course, is open minded. I simply pick my favorite from the list. A list that includes some of the worst sports nicknames ever conceived, e.g., Roughriders. If North Dakota is on the list, it's my choice. If not, then its on to the generic Fighting Hawks. Do I like it? Not particularly. But, that would be my choice of the remaining sad and embarrassing options. Third is North Stars, which is a near perfect name for a MN team, but that's where it should stay. taz
