  1. At the end of the day it is about the money. There is a reason that every other university in the United States has one, it is an important part of the business and one that brings in a significant amount of money to fund athletics. I will continue to donate on an annually basis to the University of North Dakota as a college because I believe in what they do. Let's remember that we are bigger than a nickname and all of the students who came after me will have my support whether it be as a Fighitng Sioux or a flickertail again.
  2. +1 from me on this sentiment, it is just illogical to go without one for many reasons, some of which you have stated right here.
  3. I apologize if it came off that I was picking on you, as I wasn't. My point is that there were many many people on this board who were applauding him when this was done and it is quite hypacritical to now throw him under the bus for the same policy they supported him on 3 months ago. As for the bolded part, I understand that, but he is paid to represent his community's interests. I am curious how they voted in his area as I am giving him the benefit of the doubt that he had many many citizens of the community email him or contact him on this.
  4. I do have a bit of a problem with this. It wasn't to long ago that many of us were extremely happy for him because of this exact bill. The only reason he is a "dufus" now is because the Big Sky came out and stated it could affect our conference eligibility. I agree that it needs to be reversed, but I applaud him for what he tried to do. Obviously he can't sponsor a new bill against one he just helped pass 3 months ago, that would be extreme hypocracy to say the least. He is paid to represent his community and that was exactly what he did.
  5. A nickname is very important for any university from a marketing and business perspective. It gives potential students, athletes, and fans something to associate with on a much broader basis than just the name of the university. It also allows for much more memorabilia to be sold, which is $ for the school. I will guarantee that there will be a new nickname in place "if" the Fighting Sioux is retired. To much money is on the line for no nickname to be decided upon.
  6. I got this idea from Geauxsioux in another thread and put a bit of a twist on it University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux of Spirit Lake!
  7. My condolences go out to all family and friends of him, it is always tough to hear a member of the Fighting Sioux family pass away. University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux of Spirit Lake does have a nice ring to it!
  8. Ya but every so often the defense breaks, then it's just a mess .....on the football field that is
  9. What about the bare backers then? No condom reference and a very popular rodeo sport
  10. To me that is just a PR saying, if he truly had a problem with it then he would speak out against it just as much as he does against the Fighting Sioux nickname. It sounds good to say things like "well I don't like those either". Actions speak louder then words though, prove to me you don't like those either and stand up against them as well. At that point I will agree with him and agree with him on dropping the name, until that happens I won't buy it for one second.
  11. Here has been the biggest issue I have with this whole thing. I am not going to tell someone how to feel or what to believe as it isn't my place, but if this is actually the case then why are schools in reservations all across ND using nicknames such as the Braves and Warriors? If this is the belief then I am totally ok with that, but the double standard must be fixed and nicknames for all schools shouldn't be anything to do with a group of people, including those schools located on the reservation.
  12. This is possibly the worst thing that they could do. Blatently pulling funding to programs for an entire race is not only very ethically and morally wrong, but also IMHO illegal. We should not punish a portion of our unversity students because of a nickname, and I am one of the biggest proponents out there for keeping the name,
  13. Zach Parise just signed a 1 years $6 million deal with the Devils Linky
  14. JT Miller has signed with the New York Rangers, kinda surprised they signed him this year and not next. Makes sense though if they were going to return him to Plymouth either way. [My link
  15. Hakstol will leave UND for the NHL, the difference here however is that Eaves has had the international and NHL experience previously as an assistant coach. I see Hakstol being a more serious flight risk in another 3-5 years but not right now, especially after how it worked out for Blais.
  16. There are multiple reports floating around that Mike Eaves will be leaving the University of Wisconsin for the NHL and the New Jersey Devils and a formal announcement could come as early as Tuesday the 28th. Reports are saying that he wasn't nearly as excited about going to the B10 hockey conference as the AD's were. This is an absolutely huge blow for Wisconsin, if the B10 hockey conference costs Wisconsin Eaves it would be a PR nightmare IMHO. Especially since the biggest AD in favor of this conference was Barry Alvarez. Quotes are bolded below for sources. The next 48 hours should be very telling. George Falkowski (sp) of News12NJ is reporting on tonight's sports report that Mike Eaves could be named coach as early as Tuesday. No guarantee as Craig Ramsey is supposedly still in the mix, but he thinks it will be Eaves. ecwiscott Scott Scott Not to be lost in #NJDevils search is that I'm not sure Eaves was as giddy to leave WCHA to new B10 conf. as B10 athletic directors were.
  17. Kristo is Montreal's top prospect and will be in the show next year if he signs, even if it's just for a 9 game tryout to show what he's got. Gregoire will have a shot as the Islanders have been struggling Blood would get a quick call up as Ottawa has been struggling and there defense has been horrible this year Hexy is the one that may not be a lock, but I wouldn't be surprised if he got called up next year even for an injury. It's not an assumption, it's looking at each player and then looking at the team that owns their rights.
  18. Um....huh? This is the first I have heard of this......
  19. The only reason he should stay is if he has a spot in the top 6 for next year already otherwise he doesn't have a whole lot left to prove as a 3rd liner in college hockey. He also needs to get used to the longer schedules of pro-hockey and playing the first half of the year in the AHL could do that for him, then he would be called up after the all-star break and given his shot much the way Vande-Velde was brought up this year. That is how I am guessing phoenix is looking at this.
  20. Yup, some white crap is supposed to start falling tomorrow!!!
  21. Nope, he has only been the starter for 1 season, he needs to do it another year before a team will take a chance. If he does a similar job next year though he will be gone, it is just very very rare for un-drafted goalies that are only sophomores to leave.
  22. I would disagree with that statement. He is good in the corners, can effectively clog the neutral zone, can chip in some offense, is an effective two-way player, and can get under opposing teams skin. I think we forget how on multiple occasions he completely changed the play of DU and Minnesota just by his yapping and aggressive play. He will be up with phoenix on a 4th line role at some point next year as he is not that far off. He will never be a top 6 player but he will be an effective grinder in today's NHL. I think we should be a bit classier about players who decide to leave after their Junior year and not knock them down for all the reasons it won't work. We were so good this year because of our incredible depth. Blood, Kristo, Gregoire, and Hexy are all developed enough to be playing in the NHL at some point next year.
  23. Grimaldi will be an absolute beast!
  24. I would say that Kristo and Gregoire are as good as gone. I fully expect all the other underclassmen to be back though.
  25. They look much better this period, passing lanes are opening up a bit and there is a bit more flow in the game. Watch out boys...the Pony Express is about the deliver!
