Last game of the evening has begun. 2-0 Minot early. Tomorrow is one of my favorite days of the year. 16 teams in action with 4 calling it a season, 4 punching their ticket to state, and 8 still in limbo until Saturday. Saturday is fun too, but I've always loved region tournament moving day.

Amen. Having to pay to stream class B girls district volleyball? Or a 9 man football game? A consolation hockey game from the state tournament?

Very unfortunate. The costs to produce the tournament probably drove this. Nick has done so much with the PSP network for high school athletics. He once told me the cost of what these networks (PSP, BEK, Your live event) have to pay the NDHSAA for these events and its a bleeping tragedy. Yes, that's a direct shot from me at the NDHSAA.

I think a RR-Central final this Saturday. Red River got the wakeup call they needed from Devils Lake. Skarperud wasn't happy but deep down he's happy they won and didn't play great. North hasn't been at state in forever. Would be big for them to get over the hump against Central.

I'll admit that I didn't know the rule until now either. I'd honestly prefer if they went to the college style playoffs and just go from the 30 yard line in. Make the teams always have to go for 2 after a TD though.

And here I thought that Peluso was hanging it up because of hockey parents.....no way he could have foreseen this happening..... The way that things are trending in youth sports hockey parents will move out of the BHS boundary area, or they'll use uncle/aunt/grandma's address in the Legacy or Century district. This same scenario could play out in West Fargo, as talks have started about when the right time to add a hockey team to Horace High School is. Stay tuned there as well.

The Beanpot is just a fantastic hockey tournament. I know Minnesota tried with their Northstar cup to do something similar, but it just goes unrivaled in college hockey.

Back down to Colorado for a second time this season to get some revenge against the Tigers for their sweep (we did get two points I guess) at REA. I watched their Friday night game against SCSU a few weeks ago and they very much deserved to win that game, but couldn't get it done even with a 5x3 in OT. They regrouped and won on Saturday night. Last week was a week off for UND, the same can be said for them. Miami did us no favors against SCSU, so points are pivotal in Colorado Springs this weekend. @Godsmack, you have the floor.

The fan in me likes the Thursday-Friday-Saturday, but it makes sense for region tournaments to split it up and do Tuesday-Friday-Saturday. Once you get to the Saturday of the State hockey tournament the kids from the West are playing their 6th game in 10 days. I think there is a bit more jump on Saturday at the EDC with it not being the third game in three days for those teams as well. At the same time, the travel is a bit more feasible in the East region for a Tuesday night game. You don't have a Williston to Jamestown scenario, or a Bottineau to Dickinson type trip. The worst trip in the EDC would be Devils Lake to Fargo which isn't terrible with interstate.

Honestly Adam, there is no perfect system to selecting and there never will be. Regardless there will always be an upset school or two in most NCAA tournament selections. See Florida State not getting into FBS playoffs, NDSU not getting a seed in FCS playoffs this year. IMHO he is too entrenched in the "keep it fair" argument. Well Adam, in the current system there have been countless "not fair" scenarios based on regionals being held in locations a stones throw from certain campuses where higher seeded teams are playing a road game, notably Miami in Providence when Providence was the last team in. Ticket prices....sigh... Nothing to do with it Adam....talk to Delta airlines about flight costs and the Best Western about their prices....plus your rental car or Uber everywhere for what could be a one and done. At least he's come a bit more towards the middle.

EDC play ins going as expected. Looks like Grafton gave Devils Lake a battle. Davies up 5-0 over Mayport.

There are some excellent goalies on the girls side this season. Sorlie, Seeley, Ackerman, just to name a few. I've seen Seeley quite a bit this season. Good goaltender, even better kid.

The new kid from valley city is a pretty good all around athlete. Played goalie for Jamestown for a few years and I believe was all state for them ( @sioux rube may need to clarify for me). VCSU male athlete of the year. Lets see how he makes the jump.

Both WF teams have lost some guys that I know of. Central has been hit throughout the year. North lost a forward to a head injury. The time of the year when you are lucky if you are healthy!

Those Boston teams are scary. They throw the puck around a bit defensively, but they just make you pay so much for turning the puck over.

Last night in the EDC. Red River vs. S/S Central vs. GPR Moorhead vs. Davies Devils Lake vs. North Sheyenne vs. WFHS Only thing not set is 3-6. North needs to beat Devils Lake or a Red River win over South to claim third. South has earned home ice as at least #4. Sheyenne has to beat WFHS in regulation and by 2 goals to claim 5th place. I believe the tiebreaker is head to head, then differential, and then region wins. So WFHS would have the tiebreaker with a one goal loss. If I'm wrong here please correct me. Entire WDA on PSP network. Can't wait!
