Goon, that's a great idea. It's amazing how important kids feel when an athlete, or someone that they look up to, takes the time to say hi and talk to them a little bit. I think that would be a great thing to do to bring the younger people closer together and ultimately create a better, closer relationship between the reservations and the University.

I highly doubt that the NCAA is only using tribal support in giving exemptions. I do hope that a couple of our favorite posters are able to attend the meeting and act exactly like they do on these boards. People will listen to them for about ten words (about the time it takes to call the people that disagree with them names) and then start ignoring them.

Reading through the appeal again that the University of North Dakota sent to the NCAA, I am really encouraged by this split vote, and by this part of the appeal: "The Chair of the Spirit Lake Nation, Myra Pearson, was quoted in the newspaper here recently as saying that people on her reservation laugh about this issue, indicating that there are far more important issues to be addressed."

That's great news! At least they are talking about things and not just throwing support out of the window.

Thanks, Jesus! That was a great thing to read with all of the other things that have been said around here lately. MOST North Dakotans are friendly, outgoing people, contrary to what some posters may think about us and say on these boards. Welcome aboard!

And this is just FYI, I searched "the university of north dakota" on AOL's search engine, and I got this: "The University of North Dakota | Grand Forks, North Dakota Home of the Fighting Sioux, The University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota, invites you to learn more about the campus. " There's no reason that you couldn't have learned about the name before you came here.

The name's not going to change. I'll come visit you in Grand Forks in 50 years.

A good University? That's all we get? That's an answer that my fourth grader would respond to that question. I suspect that there is another reason that you came to the University of North Dakota. Do you mean to tell me that you had NO IDEA WHATSOEVER that the University of North Dakota's nickname was the Fighting Sioux, and you found out after you arrived on campus? If so, maybe you should have done a little homework before you chose the University. We have no mascot. And if ithe nickname and logo are so offensive why did you stay after you found that out? One trip to the University's website and you would have EASILY found that out. Yes, that's it, it's a great big conspiracy. They hide the nickname so no one knows what it is. Who said you weren't welcome here? You're the one complaining about the place everyday. We just wanna know why you stay if Grand Forks and the University of North Dakota are such a God-awful places to be. Most of the people on campus that I know are against the change. The courts would have to rule that a REASONABLE person finds it to be racist/a violation of civil rights. Does a mascot/logo/nickname prevent someone from their rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?

You can say whatever you want, but you can be held liable for it.
