I just got caught up in all these threads. I think we all need to take a deep breath and count to ten. I am at the point where I believe that both sides of this issue are not going to change their minds. No matter how much/what the other side says. What I do not agree with is that the NCAA made an irrational decision and didn't include all nicknames/logos/mascotts that have something to do with a group of people. They left open a gaping smoldering hole that is very gray. Now certain teams are being given exeptions and other are not. I'm a parent, and that's a huge no-no in disciplining your children. It's either all or nothing. What I would love to see is a sign like Central Michigan has with both the schools logo and the Chippewa Nation's logo, only here and actually honoring the Sioux people. How incredible would that be to walk into Engelstad Arena, the Betty, the Alerus Center, Bronson Field.....to see it everywhere on campus? Why can't we just put the past behind us, learn from it, and work together to make this right?

Bring on the lawsuit then!!!!!!!

My ride never picked me up, and I actually got ignored when I said I wanted to go. What's up with that?
-
I don't think I'm going to get picked up tomorrow.

What? It's not a caracarature, it's a work of art. By asking me if I have ever been to a museum that you are mocking my art background. I've been to several. I know what art is. How do you figure those feathers are stuck on his face? Have you ever set foot on a field, a court, a diamond, rink? Prove it.

LMFAO What the hell was that?

Why is it different? Is the statue honoring Sitting Bull outside of Engelstad Arena disrespectful just because it was erected/funded by a white man? That's judging someone by the color of their skin. Isn't that what were not supposed to be doing? Ben Brien's artwork is not a caracature, it's a work of art. I was once eating out in Grand Forks with my daughter, who was wearing her Sioux hockey jersey. Our waitress was Native American and said that she liked my daughter's jersey. I told her that I thought that logo was absolutely breathtaking, to which she agreed. She also told me that Ben was a member of her tribe and the tribe was so proud that he had created the logo for UND. Is there something wrong with ethnocentrism? I'm proud that I went to UND, I'm proud that it's part of my past. I consider myself Fighting Sioux. The majority of Native Americans do not oppose the use of nicknames by sports teams.

I wanna go, will you swing through and pick me up, I'm right on the way.

GrahamKracker was on here for an hour and avoided posting in this thread, I wonder why?

GK, You justify your dodging questions by saying that you don't have time to stop here, then you spend/waste time with a post like that? Your answers are biased and one-sided, and on occasion your examples are way over the top. Everyone of those catagories have been justified and explained to you, yet you mock them and still don't listen. You're the one who came to this website rubbing the NCAA's decision in the face of thousands of Fighting Sioux fans (and an occasional Gopher and Bison fan). You mock my Alma Mater, you bitch and moan repeatedly about Grand Forks, you call Ralph Engelstad a Nazi, you refer to other Native Americans in a stereotypical manor (reference your comment about a bottle and artist Ben Brien), you make reference to everyone posting here as if they are ignorant because they do not agree with you. Do you honestly think that people are going to take you seriously after talk like that? It's actually gotten to the point that I show up here more just to laugh at your responses and watch the hole that you are digging get even deeper.
-
And by the way......."you don't even know me" is a good playground response for someone who has no other comeback. Congratulations.

Ralph Engelstad is not UND. Ralph Engelstad happens to have been a person who went to UND, worked hard and made a very good life for himself, and his family. After he did that, he turned around and remembered where he came from and donated, not just once, but several times to the University. I'm proud to say that I am part of the UND community, and I hope that one day I can also turn around and give to the institution that helped me get my start.

I know you only by what you say on these boards.

*hands you a Snicker's Bar* You're going to be waiting a long time. If he knows he can't answer a question, he leaves and when he comes back just ignores it as if it was never asked.

Isn't that an oxymoron?

Great perspective, PCM.

That's because it's okay for him to be racist. The Man is evil.

In North Dakota, one Sioux Nation has spoken, another has not. The only thing that I've heard is you saying that you represent ALL of them. Are you an enrolled member of the Spirit Lake Nation? If not, sit back and let them speak for themselves. We're all going to listen. Quit comparing apples to oranges. Your are so far out in left field that your comparisons make little or no sense.
-
Yeah, I'm so sure.
-
I've heard that too. I'm not worried about it, because the name isn't going to change.

-
......and on the same note, who is the NCAA to say that certain schools should be reprimanded and other not be?
-
We're not the Cleveland Indians.
