  1. It sounded like just a one game contract.

Mussman stated..."I don't think they want to play us in Grand Forks" or something similar. He was trying to say it would be a difficult game for them and he didn't think SELA wanted any part of it. At least that was my interpertation of it...

  2. Does anyone know how many home games we will be playing next year? Mussman stated on the Sioux sports show last night that there will be a total of 11 games. He said that 10 have already been scheduled and that once the last game is signed the schedule will be released.

I think this is what we know so far:

    HOME:

    UC-Davis

    South Dakota

    Idaho State

    DII team

    AWAY:

    Cal-Poly

    Southern Utah

    Northwestern St. ?

    Texas Tech

Is there any games I'm missing or incorrect about?

Coach also stated on last nights program that there will not be a return game to Grand Forks by SELA...

I guess I wasn't quick enough with my typing :)

  3. Montana St takes an early lead over USD, 7-0 with 7:33 to go in the 1st

Central Washington draws first blood against Montana, 7-0 with 10:44 to go in the 1st

    Northeastern defeated UC-Davis, 27-10

Nice to see Central Washington up but I dont think we play either of those two teams. Im a bit surprised at the UC Davis score.

  4. There's only one so called 'fan' on this forum who thinks otherwise. The rest of us will always support our team/coaches/athletic programs. To do less because of a name change is ridiculous!!

I feel the same way and have stated that on other threads. However, after thinking about this a bit more, I can kind of see this point of view. I am an Alum of UND. If I were not an Alum, I could see not supporting the team if it were to change it's name. For example, I have always been a fan of the Tarheels basketball team. I do not have any ties to the school. I like the name tarheels and their school colors. If they got rid of the name and changed colors, I would honestly say I probably wouldn't follow them as closely as I would otherwise.

That being said, if you have ties (ie. attended/graduated) from the school, I feel you should support your alma mater no matter what their athletic teams are called.

  5. Don't like the North Stars/Wild example? Fine, here's a better one... the Tennessee Titans are not the same as the Houston/Tennessee Oilers. Just because somebody liked the Oilers doesn't mean they're going to like the Titans.

This example still doesn't work for me Dave. Had the Houston Oilers moved to Nasheville and stuck with the Tennesse Oilers, only to change their name to the Titans after two seasons, I would say that they would have had the same support. However, they did not have a stadium those first two years and thus played in Memphis... It gets kind of complicated but here is a link about their move...

Scroll down to the '97-'98 era...

  6. You don't understand. A team by any other name is not the same team but in fact a completely different team. It would be the end of one sports program at the University of North Dakota, and the beginning of a brand new one. Case in point, the Minnesota Wild are not the Minnesota North Stars. They're two completely different and unrelated organizations that happened to play their home games in the same state. One team was taken away and later on replaced with another. Just because you liked the 1st team doesn't mean you automatically have ties as a fan to the 2nd team. If the name changes the team that I have supported ever since I was a little rugrat will become extinct.

You can't be serious with this post? These are totally two different scenarios. If they closed down the University of North Dakota and let's say moved it to Bismarck...current students/athletes/faculty and all. Then they opened up a new school, Grand Forks CC, at the "old location of UND" and of course with a different nickname, then you may have a point.

I too am a die hard pro Sioux nickname supporter, but I would agree with Sioux-cia that we are cheering on the students/athletes of this fine institution and not the nickname.

  7. I was just checking my email and received an advertisement from the Ralph that states Travis Roy will be speaking at the Chester Fritz on Monday September 29th. Looks to be an interesting presentation. Sorry I don't have a link...

  8. Ok, make that "SLIM" then. The Gophers have basically said they don't want to play the FCS/Division 1AA teams anymore, I don't know if you remember that being discussed in the media.

Lastly I have watched 3/4 of Minneotas games this season and they are not the same team that got beat by the Bison. After watching YSU run over the Bison I don't think Minnesota would love to either the Bison or the Sioux IMHO...

Minnesota will continue to schedule FCS teams. The head coach may say one thing while their AD says another. Here is a link to a McFeely blog where he quotes both Bohl and Taylor about contacts they have had with the Gophers about a possible matchup in the near future.... http://www.areavoices.com/mcfeely/?blog=32888

According to the USD Headcoach, they have a game scheduled with the Gophers for 2010. Not sure if they would schedule UND due to their policy on Native American nicknames.

There was also a rumor that Wisconsin was trying to schedule UND this year, but UND didn't feel it would be ready to take on a team the caliber of Wisconsin this year. Not sure if it was true or not, but as stated earlier, Wisconsin did schedule Cal Poly.

With a twelve game schedule, there will always be FBS teams looking to schedule FCS teams...

  9. UND doesn't need Minnesota, Wisconsin, or Iowa to get a big pay-day. You must not have heard about the Texas Tech game next year. There are still plenty of teams of FBS teams willing to pay UND for a game. Getting a pay day from an FBS team was clearly was not the reason for the settlement, and will not be the reason if UND drops the nickname.

Moreover, if the nickname is changed, the chances of playing Wisconsin or Minnesota in football is not "slim and none". You are obviously very unfamiliar with Division I football scheduling. Wisconsin plays Cal Poly this year. Minnesota played NDSU twice, Montana State this year, play South Dakota State next year, and is rumored to have scheduled South Dakota for a future year. Wisconsin and/or Minnesota scheduling UND in the future is a very real possibility...I'd even say likely.

Minnesota "shelling" UND in football? Obviously you haven't watched a Gopher football game lately.

And there are no pre-season games in college football.

    Carry on...

I agree with your post, except for the Minnesota thing. Don't they still have a policy in place stating they won't play teams with Native American logos/mascots? Wisconsin had a similar policy at one time but then amended theirs...I believe.

Either way, there are teams that are willing to schedule UND regardless of their nickname...

  10. I see on UND's Schedule page, there is now a FSSN icon by the South Dakota game, so they are obviously picking up the feed for that one.

FWIW, there will be video webcasts for UC Davis game and the Southern Illinois game for $9.95.

I'm more than a little disappointed that UND decided to only broadcast one football game this year on a cable station that they own and operate. Thank goodness though that they are televising the Hockey team's EXHIBITION games against Manitoba and the Under 18 team! :D:D

If South Dakota can televise all of their home games, I'd think UND could as well. They both have the same type of deal with Mid Continent. Thanks to USD for doing that so that we can have another game on TV. ???

I agree that it's rather disappointing they aren't televising more football games. I wonder if this game will truly be a FSSN broadcast or if they will just be picking up the SD feed. It was posted earlier that USD will be televising the rest of their home football games on the Midcontinent channel (Channel 23).

  11. I agree. If anyone should be upset by the final score, it should be UND, not Idaho State.

Had it not been for the short week to prepare and perhaps some elevation issues, I feel ISU would not have made the rally they did in the second half. It's not to say we would have totally shut them down, but I doubt we would have given up four touchdowns.

One positive I am taking from this games is that it appears as though the coaching staff had our kids ready to play. This is one question mark I have had since the loss of Coach Lennon. He always had his teams prepared. We only had four days to prepare for this game...techinically...and our team came out and were ready to go in the first half...particularily on offense. I believe this is a good sign for our coaching staff. We will see if this continues going in to next weeks game.

  12. 75-25

Wow...I step away from my computer for a few hours and in that time we go from up 61-39 to trailing 76-24. I agree that something is fishy. Montreal also has a sizeable lead in the question about Robert Lang...

  13. Someone needs to tell ESPN the proper name of the school. I was watching one of the ESPN's saturday night and they had the UND score as

St. Cloud 17 Grand Forks 31. Did anyone else see that? I meant to watch to see if they corrected it the next time it scrolled through, but I didn't see the score again.

I only saw it scroll across once...it was actually listed as Grand Fork not Grand Forks.

  14. UND's first FBS foe is still a season away...but I find this quite interesting:

    2008 FBS v FCS

    2007 FBS v FCS

What a difference a year makes...

I knew FCS schools did well last year, but I didn't realize how well. The Kolpack article incorrectly stated UNH (FCS)beat Delaware. UD is actually an FCS school. UNH beat FBS school Army last week.

  15. I voted twice...in a row.

Yeah...I voted around 15 times just to see if it would cut me off and it didn't. I'm not sure how many of those votes actually counted though. I checked the percentage after each time and it remained 51%-49% in favor of the good guys after each of my votes.
