I was just browsing the FCS home page and noticed they have advertising for the Sioux Hockey exhibition game against Manitoba...very nice! They also have a poll for which football game you most want to see this weekend. Guess which game is leading the poll???

As of 8AM neither the GF Herald or the Fargo Forum have breaking news on Murphy's win, they just have talk about the protesters...i can see if its the printed paper but online come on they have breaking news throughout the day. What RHHIT getting his @ss kicked isn't worthy news.

I didn't realize the finals had started. I just voted by computer and by phone...the gap is narrowing it' now 54%-46% in favor of the Blackhawks. I will vote on my personal computer when I get home as well. Make sure to vote Sioux Fans!

Does anyone know where I can get a Sioux basketball jersey? I just picked up a baseball jersey from the SiouxShop but I didn't see any basketball jerseys. Would Scheels have them you think?
They did have some white Sioux jerseys on display at the GF Scheels when I was there today...

The name is going to be saved, so we can put all of these gloom and doom theories to rest once and for all. Thank you Spirit Lake, thank you State Board of Higher Education, and thank you to the nickname supporters at Standing Rock who continue to fight the good fight.
Your reading an awful lot into this small Herald article. I still believe we will end up retiring the name. I do believe there is a glimmer of hope, but I'm nowhere near as optimistic as you seem to be. I hope I am wrong.

I assume the determining factor will be what happens during the Sept 30 SR election.
That would be a pretty safe bet.

We also played Yale back in the late 90's (maybe early 2000's) when Chris Higgins played for them. I remember Henessey getting into it with a fan after a melee broke out. I remember TH getting into with a fan and saying on the air, "This guy wants to take me outside!" LOL
I was at the game when we went to Yale/Princeton...I believe it was 2002. The Yale game was quite memorable and a fun environment to watch hockey in. Princeton and Hobey Baker rink on the other hand...not so much.

Per WDAZ News at 6:00 pm tonight: The State Board of Higher Education is leaning towards granting an extension of at least a couple weeks. They plan to hold a conference call next Thursday, October 1st to decide if they will grant an extension.
Should make for an interesting middle of next week...

I find it interesting that people think that you have to have a nickname to brand the university. University of North Dakota is a brand the same as GM or Apple. The University of North Dakota Football team is a product under this brand (the same as iPod is a product under the Apple brand) the same as the University of North Dakota men's hockey team, etc. The University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux or any other nickname is redundant. As such, the nickname can be marketed separately but doesn't necessarily add value whereas there is always value in the brand name (University of North Dakota).
I would simply go with the University of North Dakota without a nickname. It is marketable with it unique logo. It is not as hard as people are making it out to market the name. In the end, the most important factor will be the alumni who support the school, not a name, and winning teams. Everybody wants to be with a winner so a winning team, or at least competitive, is important.
As others have eluded to in other threads/posts, if we don't choose a nickname, one will be chosen for us by other schools/media/etc. Then we may end up with something like "Nodaks", Big Green, etc.
I believe a certain poster on here kind of sums it up best when they say "Control what is yours to control."

I dunno, Predators would be a sweet nick name. There are already a ton of sports teams with the name "Hawks"
The picture is the one like the UAS at the GFAB that are run by CBP.
Not a bad name...but what would we use as a logo or a mascot? I don't know that I would get excited about a UAV as a logo
If we have to change the name...my vote would be for Fighting/Mighty Norse, Rough Riders, or Nokota's/Nokes. I know it's a pick six, but hopefully these three would be included...right now there is no other suggested nicknames that I have grown a liking to.

Today is the last day to vote in the quarterfinal round. UND is leading at 61%-39% so looks as though we will advance to the final four. Voting for that round begins tomorrow...Good job Sioux Fans!

WDAZ 10:00 news reported that the SBoHE is going to hold a conference call to decide if they want to extend the deadline until October 15th. They also stated that the deadline could be extended longer than October 15th if it appears as though an election on Standing Rock seemed likely.
There is still a glimmer of hope...

So Larry the Cable guy has performed at the Alerus two other times if I'm not mistaken. According to the Alerus website, they have seating for 7400~ for his show. I was a bit surprised that he would draw that well. Has anybody been to one of his previous shows in GF? Has he drawn 7,000+ at his previous shows. Not trying to knock the guy or anything, just surprised at what he may draw for a crowd.

I wouldn't get too worried yet. KVLY news at 10:00 had a quote from Mr. Murphy stating "We are well aware of the dates" and "Something could happen by the end of the week." Not exact quotes, but you get the idea. Just need to be patient...I'm sure we will hear something, one way or the other, fairly soon.
EDIT: Actually I guess these quotes were pretty much right on. Here is a link to the KVLY update...
