    Sioux/UAA series

Very short on info from a Sioux perspective. SOG's 36-12 Sioux. Sounded like Parise and Bochenski created quite a few chances, but Fylling may have had a tough game (including missing the net on a 3 on 0). Also anyone listening to a radio, would appreciate post game comments from Blais since the internet audio, is again not working. Get redirected to a football audio link (which times out), rather then the hockeyrm. Hope it's back up tomorrow, UAA announcer doesn't follow the Sioux action much, which makes for a tough game to listen to, when only the Sioux have the puck
  4. Sioux 3-1 after 2. Score closer than the game; total Sioux domination. SOG's about 25-4 at this point. Not much info/Sioux player names, etc by UAA announcer, so hard to get scoring or what's going on. Got to get the Sioux feed working by tomorrow. Now the USCHO server is overloaded, so can't post score updates.
  5. You wouldn't have slept in 214 had you been there when we were, up one floor in 314.
  6. THe Sonmor/Nanne bus better get on the road immediately to visit Herb. Have to go check POI to see if this stuff has made it there yet
  7. Believe you'll get the Wisco series on 642 next weekend. And the Minnie series in January on 641.
  8. See he's in Walsh Hall. Is that still where all the hockey players are housed?
  9. Thought the bench miscon. was Blais throwing the stick on the ice. Maybe Connelly served it?
  10. There's little doubt Parise will be gone for that series, as well as probably Sterling and Stuart (or is it a Cullen) for CC.
  11. After his seniors scored on Friday must have seeemed like the bright thing to say. Guess last night was a freshmen/sophmore game (or a real blue chipper game). He comes off as quite the village idiot in the interviews.
  12. Sounded like he played much better. Athough they scored two PPG's on the first 7 shots (second one might have been stopped), he made the saves on the last 12, including 2 or 3 (maybe more) big saves on the SC PP that kept the game close.
  13. Scary to think what he might teach in a ref school. Radio said he came out of retirement.
  14. Siembeda saved the last 12 after giving up 2 on the first 7, several of the saves were big, just what the Sioux need. Super work by Notermann outworking the much bigger Peters to break lose the puck leading to Massen's goal. PP has got to improve if penalties continue to be called at this rate. Hope we don't see Adam for the rest of the year.
  15. It is a bit crabby around here. Hard to get up given the team played well but get beat again by soft goal tending, a reoccuring theme around here for the last year. Nice start by MDU, although even Dubie gave up 3 in the Denver loss last night (on 28 shots, a bit better than the percentages here). Reichmuth (sp?), only 2 goals and 41 saves for MDU. Scott has them playing early, nobody gets an easy weekend playing Duluth. MDU special teams scores all 3, 2 PPG and 1 SHG. Hard to take since goaltending through the years has not been a problem when the Sioux get a good team together. Iwabucci, Jenson, Casey, Belfour, Schweitzer, and Goehring. Where have all the good goaltenders gone? Remember back in the 80's Minnesota always had good teams but almost always got dinged by goal tending. Seems the Sioux are taking over that role (not that I think Minnie's goal tending is any better this year). With CC getting off to such a good start (as opposed to last year), I think they are the favorite right now to be the WCHA's best team this year. Hope something happens with the Sioux goalies that put the Sioux up near the top by March, but things don't look good right now. Hope we don't have more to bitch about in a few hours
  16. Post on POI from someone who was at the game said Cullen's stick spent more time between Parise' legs than his cup. May see a lot of this during the year.
  17. 7 goals on 25 shots vs. 3 goals on 43 shots. Not difficult to see the problem; need to make the routine saves as well as a few big saves each game, or you don't win in the WCHA. It's been tough listening to streaming audio; kind of expect every opponent shot to go in. Might be tougher watching. Did sound like the Sioux had the puck a lot of the time (although not as much as the NC games). Lots of momentum ending penalties though. Noticed that Adam and Schmitt (MN/Kato) called lots of penalties while Mason (CC/UAA) and Sheppard (MDU/Denver) called few. At any rate, with the new emphasis on obstruction penalties, may be a year that sees very little 5 on 5.
  18. I could see why they did also. But a case might also be made (from the pic) that Higgins was trying to avoid smashing Jones head into the boards, but when his feet got caught up, did it inadvertently. I don't know how Higgins plays the game, but we certainly have seen players who would have used the opportunity to make a big hit on a guy going down, without worrying about what they might do to his head (probably even relishing the opportunity to smash an opponent's head into the board). All I can say it, don't get into this position with DeMarchi nearby. At any rate, it appears worthy of the protection the captains (and McMahon) thought necessary. All the talk about what constitutes fighting/ punching on USCHO is nuts. Can't help but think about all the Taffe punches after the whistle last year, as well as Orpiks and Giontas punches and elbows after whistles in the championship game, all of which didn't even bring a minor penalty.

    Yale Fight

PCM, You have the radio broadcast version right on. Some posters, who were at the game, said Higgins finished his check (possibly after Jones fell?). Details are sketchy to say the least. Hennesey got pretty caught up in the verbal battle with the Yale fans over the radio, so the details of what occurred before the fight were not discussed much at the time.
  21. This link lists the radio stations in several ND cities (clear station) that supposedly carry Sioux hockey, as well as the streaming audio link: http://www.undalumni.org/broadcast.htm Know I've picked up games from Devils Lake on a Grand Forks station. Also, Devils Lake has Midco Cable which will televise home games. If I haven't posted this link before, here's the page listing televised Sioux sports on Midco Cable, along with the towns and cable channel # on which they'll be shown. http://www.midcocomm.com/und_sports/und_sports.html Notice that Midco Cable has also confused Niagara with Viagra There are also a few hockey games that will be shown on the eastern ND ABC network stations (WDAZ). Some of these may be picked up by Minot and Bismarck ABC also if they get the local advertising.

    Yale Fight

Suspensions of Speiwak and Fuher are being appealed, as well as, I'd guess, two of the Yale players that didn't throw punches: http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforks/s...rts/4445489.htm Speez, Heard anything on this topic yet this week?

    Yale Fight

Good to hear Matt came out of that OK. Know from listening to Hennesey it looked like a bad injury when it happened. Not surprised that there was more to the event than depicted in the Herald by an eastern writer. Yale's Higgins was hardly an innocent party to the whole thing if it started with a high stick to the head. Good to hear the guys sticking up for teammates. Still think the ref. got carried away with the number of DQ's; probably one from each team would have been a more reasonable call.

    Mailing it in

Nope, not me. wasn't there. Had to leave streaming audio after the first quarter, 'cause I was going hunting. Good to see they made a comeback, although the outcome was disappointing

    Yale Fight

Anyone sort out what happened here, following what appeared to be a cheap shot and bad injury to Jones (neither of which was the case). Was Spiewak actually the first in? Who dropped the gloves, just McMahon and Higgins. Seemed that one fight and a lot of dancing resulted in way too many DQ's. Not the time to lose players to suspensions. Losing half of the best Sioux forward PK tandem (Spiewak, Notermann) is not a good thing heading to SCSU. Odd that with the big, physical defense, probably the least physical, Fuher, gets the only defense DQ. And all this happens with Prpich in a suit
