    Extremely interesting times if the team loses on Saturday and misses the playoffs.  Chaves will have to make some kind of comment to the media as the pitchforks will be out after a 6-5 season.

    If not for the NDSU win, Bubba could be on the hot seat with a loss, a 6-5 season and not making the playoffs.  The Bison win(the only good win all season) has bought him at least one more season leading the hawks...

    I don’t know if my memory is correct or not but I think the last time we played at home we went to overtime with a winless football team. Doesn’t give a whole lot of confidence for next Saturday.

    I agree.  We have not played well since NDSU.  This is ISU last 5 games...

    Indiana St 44-7

    @YSU 38-41

    UNI 21-24

    @Missouri St 36-35

    Murray St 44-7

    You’re probably correct, but it’s unfortunate.

    Again, big picture-wise, this program has regressed some since NDSU win. Chaves and boosters better realize that; unlikely UND even beats NDSU if they play again this season, or next season when UND plays in FargoDome.

    We have regressed since the NDSU win or maybe it was just one of those days for NDSU.

    The offense was pathetic yesterday.  Same old swing-passarama .  I don't understand our game plan.  How easy is it to cover receivers if the refs are letting them hold and we never throw deep?

    I’ve said this about the hockey roster, I’ll say it about football coaches:

    I don’t care where you’re from; I care where you can take us.

    With football, that is 5-7 wins and a first round playoff exit.

    Yep. Status quo. No more progression; is Chaves content? Probably

    I think Chaves and most of the boosters are content with 5-7 wins, especially after beating the Bison this fall.

    The sample size at this point is beyond sufficient. 4 years is considered sufficient by most ADs around the country. Unfortunately, at UND, we wait a decade-plus, I guess. UND is not getting to the next level (better than 7-4 program) with Bubba. Period.

    Unfortunately you are correct.  With Bubba in charge, UND will find a way to between 5 and 7 wins, with all but 1 or 2 wins coming at the Alerus Center.

    Postgame video. Next step for progression seems obvious, but there’s still at least one game this season, basically a playoff game.

    If the game was in Normal, IL, I would say our season will end next Saturday.  UND plays great at home, but this will be a tough matchup for us.  ISU will be much like UNI.  Would love to see Bubba-coached UND get to the next level, I just don't think it will ever happen.

    Playoffs start this week against Illinois State.  Let me check their...

    Ohh it's a playoff game for them as well, as they sit at 6-4.

    Agree 100%.  Saturday is a play in game.  Win and we are in and lose and we are 6-5 and one of the first teams left out.

    I think things will be much the same as far as coaching and personnel.  Here is a very early prediction on the 2023 season...

    Drake - easy W

    Northern Arizona - W

    @Boise State - L

    @South Dakota State - L

    Western Illinois - W

    North Dakota State - L

    @Northern Iowa - L

    Indiana State - W

    @Murray State - Toss up - bad team but we are on road in a new venue

    @South Dakota - Toss up - avg team but on the road

    Illinois State - Toss up - good team but at home

    There you have it.  somewhere between 4-7 and 7-4.

    Predictable?

    6-5 or 7-4?

    Is next Saturday the first playoff game vs ISU?  A true play-in game?

  10. I’m afraid USD is good enough to expose  our shortcomings.  Tough place for us to play, offense will be less than average today and our defense won’t be able to stop a physical football team.

    if we get behind early, we lose by double digits.  If we are within a TD going into the 4th maybe we will have two shockers in one season.

    One can only hope….

    Agreed, that is the odds on favorite. Same record as 2022. But net progress depicted because beat NDSU in 2023. Onward to 2024. Lots of home games. Decade by decade moves on. 2025 head coach contract expires.

    If NDSU was still the gorilla , I would agree with “progress”.  The gorilla is now the next stop down I29 and they toyed with us.   We are playing Bubbaball, which is consistently 5-7 wins, a chunk of heartbreak and a first round exit from the playoffs of the road.

    I’ve said it before,  and I’ll say it again,  Bubba is a great man, but is a ceiling of 7 wins enough for Grand Forks and UND?  Another contract extension will likely give us that answer.

    Not a thing of beauty yesterday but a win is a win.  Need to split next 2 to make playoff(7-4).  That would be my prediction at this point.  Lose by 10 in Vermillion and win a squeaker at home.  7-4.

    I don't understand the play calling early whatsoever.  Why so different than NDSU?  Is it because we had the lead vs NDSU and were behind yesterday?  Why not run the ball for 5 yards instead of always trying to pass for 5 yards?  When Ziebarth left the game, he had 4 rushing attempts for 27 yards...and Tommy was 6-9 for 46 yards.  Don't understand the play calling at times.

    We will all feel better in a week.

    I was wrong.
