    Agree to disagree

Question to ponder on your disagreement on the supremacy of coaching in football...

If last February 1st Bubba and staff(all of it including medical, strength, training and support) would have been traded for SDSU staff, what do you think the outcome of the season would be as of today?

Would SDSU be undefeated in FCS and rolling to another title and would UND be 7-5 and thinking about next season?  I know what my answer would be...

Both games are on the offensive coordinator. Couldn’t keep his dick in his pants in either game.

Agreed.  There is a track record over the last few years of bad situational and complimentary football.

    Mindset.

Does the HC believe and behave as if they will (not can, will) win every week.

    Mindset.

Not a chance this is the case.  How many games this season did we come out like we were not even interested.  NOt motivated, not confident, not going to play fast.

Transfer portal losses and additions will be purely a distraction; something to occupy peoples’ time without actually providing substance. Coaching ineptitude is the issue right now. Has been and will continue to be until there is deliberate change. Chaves can’t get any credit nor should he expect improvement if he is simply continuing to observe and not provide action.

Yep.  Talent is not the issue.  Good coaching yesterday and we are travelling to Vermillion this week to play a team we would have defeated once this season with team which was "all coached up"...

This a broken record, year after year.

Spring 2021 we beat the runner up(would have been champs w/o injury to QB) and were rolling until we did a belly flop in Fargo.

Fall 2021 we would have defeated the champs without one of the worst coaching flops of all time and the season went down hill from there.

Fall 2022 we come out in first round and have no idea what is going on 'til mid way through the second quarter...

Exactly what are we supposed to enjoy? Getting embarrassed at home in the first round of the FCS playoffs, again? There's no reason this team wasn't 8-3 and after winning Saturday 9-3 and on to the next round. We barely beat three really bad teams. We got blown out by UNI. We went 1-4 on the road this season. Are we celebrating the win against Murray State? That team was horrendous (2-9, and 1-7 MVFC). I watched that game in the deer stand, the Hawks almost lost that game. Our friends to the south beat them 38-6.  We beat NDSU and the Hawks went soft, the next week, I was reading quotes from the head coach about the team being depleted and not at being full-strength. It's the next man up.

We almost lost to winless Illinois State it was like ISU was the team that had a winning record. Do we want more of this? What the hell are we celebrating? The team is a joke to many in the FCS. But don't worry, we had another winning season. My God! People wanted to run Brad Berry out of town for not making the NCAA tourney. His team has accomplished way more than the Football team. I keep hearing the UND football team doesn't have shiny things like the hockey team. They're getting a brand new locker room. They're getting a new turf at Memorial Stadium. What else do they need? They fly charter to all of their games. Granted they're not getting fed like the hockey team. What is the answer and why can't UND be a powerhouse in football?

    In short, its coaching...

    -Development including strength and conditioning

    -Game planning

    -in-game adjustments

    -in game decisions

    -play calling

    -CONFIDENCE

Don't know what's gotten into Danny lately - when he started he showed so much promise

It’s almost like he has tailored the offense to do little but have a high completion percentage.

    SDSUs is lack of competition?

They may have less weaknesses, but they have all the intangibles in their corner every week too.  Sun Tzu.

UND has that confidence against Drake and WIU and that’s about it at this point.

It’s too obvious for everyone else. That’s what’s frustrating. Our garbage defense needed rest and time to go over things and their offense needed to cool off. So a quick score there does not help us other than 7 more points. It’s just not understanding these in game concepts that Bubba and Co have never been good at.

    Complimentary football…

I can see what Danny was thinking to start the 4th……I’ll run playaction, catch them off guard and move the ball.  Problem is as a team we want to score there but not score quick.   Nothing wrong with what we had been doing to that point, pound the ball…..5 minute drive and get them the ball back with 10 minutes left and hopefully behind.  It just changes things.   Commit to 4 down territory from there in and statistically, we can run the ball down the field.   Offense needs to compliment the defense and the staff should know that.

So you are saying Danny outsmarted himself.  If it ain’t broken don’t fix it.  We not only move the ball and score running it, we keep their qb off the field.

That’s why the talent talk is futile. The leadership of the student-athletes is where the problem lies.

No question.  The talent has been there for at least the last 5 years to make deep playoff runs with great coaching and leadership.

  11. The part that kills me about this program is the game yesterday was winnable.  A win there and a win at South Dakota and there is a good chance we are playing in the quarters against a team we already beat this season.  The talent can always be better but great programs just win. It’s been this way for awhile.

If I’m Schmidty I’m staying hitched with DeBoer. No question. Wouldn’t even consider the HC job at UND.

Not a chance in hell he comes back to UND as HC.  None.

All you need to know is that Bubba is a defensive coordinator most of his career and the defense showed up like that for a home playoff game. How many years has he produced a defense that could produce ulcers in the fan base? 6 or 7 of 10 years?

Probably gives us an idea of how good some of his past defenses could have been.

Unfortunate because there’s a lot - and I mean a lot - of UND students, alumni, and fans who want to support football and basketball rather than just hockey yet UND athletics blatantly ignores them. How do they ignore them? By not bolstering these programs with championship expectations. The expectations currently are basically “participation award” label. Coaching extensions after a losing season (Bubba extended after going 5-6 in 2021?) … c’mon! The reality is simple; football and basketball are more popular in this country than hockey. It’s fine that UND emphasizes hockey to differentiate itself and honor tradition, but ignoring the opportunities that DI football and basketball present is irresponsible.

100%.  UND hockey is awesome, but for the health of the university, hockey is a non-starter outside of the red river valley, MN and Canada.  Nobody cares.  Go anywhere else in the US and mention a university in ND and 99% are going to mention the U to the south and that is for one reason.

    10 years of bubba ball=

    5-7 no playoffs

7-4 no playoffs -1 win vs playoff team

9-3 no playoff wins- 2 wins  vs playoff teams

    3-8 No playoffs

    6-5 No playoffs

7-5 no playoff wins- 1 win vs playoff team

5-2  1 playoff win-2 wins vs playoff teams * this is the asterisk year due to covid*
    5-6.  No playoffs

7-5. No playoff wins- no wins vs playoff teams

7-5 no playoff wins-  2 wins over playoff teams

The stats above is as mediocre as a coach can be.  10 years of mostly uninspired football needs to be dealt win. If und had any balls they would rid his last year of the contract.  So sick of hearing “Und doesn’t have the money to do it”.  When fans don’t show up and support because of the &@&# show is that making any money ?  Who wants to watch this crap ?  They need a winner for a coach!   Bubba is one of the worst in game adjusters in the game.  He lacks killer instinct, loses all knowledge and doesn’t exert any confidence during game time.  Players follow their leaders way.  Is it coincidence or just luck that unds best win and most inspired game came this year when Lennon talked to the players before the game ?  Bubba can’t energize.  Lennon is not perfect but he gets his players ready.   His “ I need mommy” look on his face says it all.

This years defense was an absolute embarrassment!

Tommy is a below average fcs qb. Bubba and Danny see otherwise.  Need a change but that just never happened

The coaching flaws were at full speed yesterday.  Why did Danny think that he needed to pass the ball in the second half !?!?   Run the damn ball and burn the clock.  Keep their offense off the field!

The lack of overall athleticism is shown against playoff teams.  There is a reason why so many of unds recruits aren’t being recruited by other fcs teams. But there is some talent on the team and guys that love to play.  Ndsu was proof of that when they have the right motivation.  They are just being sucked into mediocrity that bubba instills.  Feel bad for them.  Some have said und can’t recruit here because it’s too cold or too far north l?  Ummm  Ndsu and sdsu

Also.  Taking away the catwalk was the worst call alerus center has done. They moved the hard core fans away.

Just another frustrating season we are used to seeing under bubba.  If und can’t make the change expect another 6 win season next year.  Fan attendance/interest will most likely fall as well.

Very well said.  Go back through each of those seasons, and in each season(especially the last half of the resume)there are several games that were just pissed away strictly due to coaching deficiencies, including yesterday's game.  So much of football is motivation, confidence, adjustment and momentum.  Those 4 qualities are Bubba's largest deficits.

This is also the only thing I can think of that could potentially fix the defense. Your base going into the offseason should be 1 or 2 leftovers @ S / OLB. Rest all portal. Bring in 2/3 on D-line too from the portal. I’m ok w/ MLB / CB position.

Watching the game again yesterday, the ILB's are small and getting manhandled too.

  17. IMO, without major scheme and adjustment changes in the offseason, this defense isn't going to be much different. No idea why it took until halftime to make any adjustments yesterday.  It would be great to pickup some good players with good attitudes in the portal, but if you think that is going to amount to more than 2-3 players across the board, IMO you are dreaming.

Its as though Bubba and Co had never played a QB who could run and pass.  Just flat ass weird.

The thing that bothers me is that Bubba thinks the fans comments about running the ball at midfield with a chance to take the lead were hindsight.  Most everyone on this board and the announcer himself were adamant that they needed to stick with something that was working so well for them.  Sometimes I think Bubba is delusional wondering about fans concerns about some of the very strange calls and plays they make with odd two point conversions and just general play calling.  When you know as an offense you can’t get behind the chains, because of how limited they are, you better get some yards, and at the very least get rid of the ball fast. If this is a one off situation it is one thing, but you learned nothing from the South Dakota loss.

it’s painfully evident we are at Bubbas ceiling.  7 wins and a first round exit.

We can talk about recruiting better players, but our players were good enough to win that game yesterday, they were good enough to beat USD and you can go back over the years and find lots of games we just flat ass gave away.

For whatever reason Danny feels the need to make the offense more complicated than it needs to be.  Especially a tendency to go away from the run when it is working and/or to call trick plays when they are not needed.  If one looks back, it’s a pattern over his tenure.

My money is that our season will be over before December next year and for the foreseeable future.

    Off-season offensive keys:

    1. Have Tommy move on

    2. Keep O-line intact (losing just one starter / one back up)

    3. Keep RB room intact (minus 7)

    4. Belquist / Vaughn return for Covid year

    5. Re-evaluate WR position group

I would add new OC or some serious soul searching for Danny.  No idea why we can't ride the run.
