He has spent 5 years building up a good offense. Now recruits are starting to take notice and if you look at this last years and next year's class on offense we have some serious talent coming in. This talent will take our offense to another level.

Did you actually watch the offense this fall when it mattered(sans NDSU game)?

Im on this page as well.

    • Barring continued attrition in the portal it seems like we should have a very strong offense returning.
    • At some point the defense has to show up so that the offense doesnt have to be perfect.
    • I think the defense struggling so much put a microscope on the offense
    • If either Tommy had played better or Danny had called better plays we all would still be laughing.  Tommy had some really bad turnovers and missed plays..  If he makes those Danny looks like a pretty smart guy.  Danny had some games that if he would have called runs the game was over and Tommy wouldnt have looked so bad.

Ive always been a Tommy supporter.. He was a big step up from Kett.. This year he took a pretty big step back IMO and Im not sure if it was more of a Danny or Tommy issue. I know we have spent a lot of time talking about Tommy and Danny but the biggest issue by far was the defense.. and its not even close.

    Complimentary football.

Offense and defense can compliment each other or they can do the opposite.  Look at UND game vs Sac St and then compare to USD game a week later.  USD controlled the flow of the game, the clock and thereby helped neutralize the QB as a major factor in the game.  There is a huge difference in a football game playing with the lead and playing from behind.   I have already mentioned this, but when our D shut down Sac St in the 3rd qtr and the offense had the chance to take the game over, Danny and his offense failed miserably.

Our offense was better overall this season than our D, but football is a team game and a game of momentum.  UND failed in far too many games this season and the last few seasons to seize the momentum and the game against better competition.

I was asking specifically about hockey, but I disagree that NIL won’t be a major influence at FCS or G5. The best players at those levels will continue to be poached every year from the big boys with even minimal amounts. FCS will be significantly diminished in its talent level in my view as a result.

The very top G5 & FCS guys will be poached by P5, but I think eventually the portal will settle down and certainly the significant NIL $ will only be available to very few FCS and G5 transfers.  I don't think FCS and G5 will ever have significant NIL budgets.

The top ones will enter the portal if and when they become that good

I would think guys who start as FROSH and SOPH at FCS level will be very tough to keep in programs at least for awhile til the transfer portal shakes out a bit.

If it becomes a major influence will UND be positioned well to stay as competitive as they’ve been?

It’s not going to be a major influence at FCS or even G5.   It will be a factor, but not a factor like the very top.

Unreal. One of the biggest collapses and coaching failures in recent memory. How everyone still has a job on UND’s staff after the post-Oct.14 letdown is even more pathetic.

Yep.  A game which should have been a spring board in so many ways, now looks like a tease, a distant mirage.  The most troubling part for me is we can always have better players, but FCS football is about developing what you have and putting them in a position to thrive, making a bunch of guys who equal 6(on a scale of 1-10) and make them play like they are 8.   This staff does the opposite.

The talent on the UND football team has been good enough to make deep playoff runs for awhile now.  The problem is coaching and lack of confidence.

Most games they make the 6 into a 5 or less at least for enough of the game to lose, or barely beat an woeful opponent.  If you are coached up you play fast, if you play fast you win the play, the more plays you win the more you believe and it builds on itself.  This staff gets some momentum and calls a trick play which looks like it has barely been practiced, a series of passes when they are running for 5+ a carry or calls for a fake punt on its own 20 yard line when the defense is waiting for it.

I'm afraid we will be stuck with 5-7 wins and a first round playoff exit(when we qualify) as long as this staff is intact.

Go back through the Hawks results since the 2018 season.  Every game since we lost in Seattle in 2018 was winnable with the same talent.  Every single one, some would have been easier than others, I get it, but they were all winnable.

Hard to disagree and truth be told I am a Tommy guy. There are several games we lose without him.

I guess next season we get to find out who is a the larger problem on offense, Tommy or Danny.  I used to be really down on Tommy, but as time wore on I think more of the offensive woes can be traced to Danny.  Tommy was never going to be more than a game manager, but maybe that is the way Danny wants it.  Again, time will tell.

The NDSU mean little when we are sitting at home while NDSU advances. The dynasty is far from over.

their game at USD will be much easier next week. Bison in the semis once again and in one of their worst seasons

I hate to say it, but they are going to beat USD.  F*CK.

I think a reality we need to embrace is nobody really knows what we have at QB including the coaches till the bullets start flying next fall. If either Trey or Jerry were better than Tommy in the coaches eyes, I’d think they would have played.

The bigger question I have is do the quarterbacks we have fit Danny’s system. I assume that’s why they were recruited. But Am I crazy to think that a more mobile QB like Romfro fits the system better and somehow sneaks through in the coming year or two?  Because this offense doesn’t really push the ball down field. it should, but it doesn’t seem to, and I don’t know if that was a byproduct of Danny, or of Tommy. If it’s the offense, then what’s keeping a guy like Romo from competing? And let me say I’m not advocating for this kid, but I have a little PTSD from that QB from last week who ran all over us and athletically reminded me of Romfro.

    This is what scares me...

Can't argue with the offensive outputs in the games you mentioned, but Tommy had terrible turnovers in two of those games. And against Indiana State we had a terrible start and still managed to get 30 points in regulation. We haven't seen the best of Danny and his offense yet. With a new QB and plenty of weapons next year, I expect us to see more than we did this year!!

We haven't seen the best of Danny and the offense yet?  Wasn't this his 5th season as OC?  What am I missing here?  What is Danny waiting for?

See, a head coaching change can do wonders for a program!

You forget that Nielsen took Bubba's team(4-7) at UMD and won a natty the next year(15-0)...but maybe they got a bunch of superstars out of the portal....

It may be more accurate to say if he plays to his full potential he is first team all-conference. Coaches who watch hours of game film choose all-conference. They watch in detail how our linemen play. If we have a guy who doesn’t give up sacks, who bull dozes the defenders in the run game, who can get to the second level etc they know. If they don’t do it play after play and games after game they are often HM. The best guys elevate the play of their teammates. Kiley is a good tackle with great potential but lack of team success is only a small factor. Waletzko didn’t play on great teams either.

Would love to get your input on this...

Why the cheap shot?  It was already reported that he has entered the portal. The kid played hard, had more success than failure.

Very few of us have a clear understanding of what it takes to play and compete at this level. This is the type of nonsense that shows a lack of class.  Most posters are mature enough to thank him for his dedication and efforts toward moving the program forward regardless of our frustrations with team performance.

This was never Tommy fault.  I'm sure he always did his best.  Again(I know I am a broken record)this is on Danny and Bubba.  If Tommy really was the best QB option they could come up with, it makes some of the play calling and in-game decisions even more suspect.  Tommy was an average game manager and did well against bad to average teams and was not good against stiff competition.  I am looking forward to the next chapter to see which QB steps up and how the offense is tailored to his strengths and weaknesses.  Best of luck to Tommy.

If we can run the ball on our opponent will we rely on the run or will we continue to outsmart ourselves?  I imagine Kaminsky father was incredibly frustrated watching this team.

Probably, buy we lost those games.  In addition, we also struggled against Indiana State and Illinois State. I contend that we didn’t play well enough to have more selections. We would have had to run the ball better, pass and catch the  ball better, to say nothing of playing defense better.  Our players needed to play better.
This isn’t high school where you are assigned a certain number of All Conf positions based on where you finished in the conference. You stated if we weren’t one of the top 3 teams “you better really  stick out”. Didn’t we finish tied for 3rd? The MVFC has been the premier FCS conference for a number of years. Kilty has enough size that he wouldn’t have gotten missed. The coaches who selected the all-conf team didn’t feel he earned a first or second team pick. I’m not saying he was undeserving, but I’m saying the league coaches didn’t think so.

He likes it here. He and his family have said they like the coaches and the school. He apparently has a girlfriend here. I would guess it would take significant NIL money and/or move to a Power 5 school but I’m just guessing. I recruiting pitch from a school with the personal to highlight his strengths could pull him away.

Again I disagree.  Which game do you think this box score is from?  How much control did the OL have over this miserable game plan?

Based on the home schedule next year and Saturday's playoff debacle what are the odds we hear from Bubba sometime next season...."Winning at home is hard"?? We got the other side of the coin this past season.

Best case is likely 3-2 heading down to Fargo.  At this point, that will not go well and then we return home to host UNI.  The trend line seems to be moving lower with the exception of a massive bump this season vs Bison.  Its not all that unlikely that we could be heading to Youngstown at 3-4 and in a "must-win".

Only thing to enjoy about the season is that we beat NDSU. They are still in the playoffs and nearly got a seed this year. Their dynasty in ND is not over until we are a more successful team than the one in Fargo. Getting smoked in the Fargodome next year will make everyone forget about our one big win. UND had a chance this year to turn it around and they failed…../

This is all very true.  As of this moment, the win vs the Bison this fall looks more like just a perfect alignment of the stars than an actual shift in very much.  The Bison improved a bunch this season and we just went into the tank as a team.

I respectfully disagree.  Waletzko was harder to miss on film and on the field due to his size.  If you are not on one of the top 3 teams, you better really stick out in the games or on film.  If UND just beats USD and doesn't just crap the bed at UNI, How many first teamers are those tow things worth?  I would say several.
