Easton Kilty for UND hit the early transfer portal. Has been offered by
Texas Tech
Auburn
Oklahoma St
Boston College
Mississippi St
NC St
and that is in the first day.He was honorable mention on the All MVFC team. Pretty BS
If UND plays to potential he is first team all-conference and earns some AA awards.

Whose next? I’m thinking lots of offensive players tired of Danny’s tricks
We pretend that some of these guys don't know football, lots of them have coaches in the family and have been around football their entire lives. Some of the flaws on this staff are just so obvious.

There will be more. Anyone with NFL or Championship aspirations will jump ship. 50/50 chance this team does not make playoffs next season.

I love CJ Seigel and I know he may have been dealing with some injuries but is he any better right now than he was in 2019?
This goes back to coaching. Not even close to enough player development under this staff. Who was the great frosh that improved a bunch under this staff? Siegel was a great example. He is the type of player(there have been a few others) who should have developed into a consensus all American. It never happens at UND.

When the 4th quarter started i texted my buddy who was traveling that UND has ball at mid field to start the 4th quarter and all the momentum...feels like we will probably win 38-28 or maybe 42-28.
Exactly my thoughts at the moment. The game was ours to lose.

As I recall, Schmidt left for greener pastures just before Freund was named Associate Head Coach.
I suspect Eric saw that writing on the wall and jumped, as much as he was 'poached'.
Schmidt and DeBoer knew each other from time at SIU.Schmidt has it good at UDub right now.
Schmidt knew it was time to get out of "Dodge" if he wanted his career climb to continue. This UND team has underperformed for years.
How many underperforming clunkers in 2018? 2019?
Schmidt knew.
It's not like any of this is new?

The Offensive sequence at end of 3rd qtr and start of the 4th was the game. That was our chance. Ball at mid field at end of qtr after a first down on 3 straight runs. Next 3 plays are two sacks and an incomplete pass. We take the lead on that drive and the game is ours. No idea why Danny called a pass at that moment other than he probably had too much time to think about the call between quarters.

One side of argument is being poached. The other is the coach actually having desire to move up the ladder and challenge themselves. Which is not happening here - it's like a country club
My info tells me you are 100% correct. Excellence is not the goal every day.

Settle down big boy. Did I say our coaching is supreme? All I said is discounting how average our players really are is not smart.
Nobody in FCS has enough talent on their roster for the current UND coaching staff to win a national title. The proof is available to all over the last decade and I would say especially since 2018. How many games has UND had major coaching errors? Even Saturday, did they have no idea that Sac St Qb was elusive? No plan b? No plan C? Did the OC not have a game plan to slow down the game if we could not stop the QB? Football isn't rocket science. If we run the ball last Saturday on every play in the second half, I personally think UND wins. That's it. Same players, same setting, same opponent. If you disagree look at some of our possessions in the second half, after the D had come to life.

Agree to disagree
Question to ponder on your disagreement on the supremacy of coaching in football...
If last February 1st Bubba and staff(all of it including medical, strength, training and support) would have been traded for SDSU staff, what do you think the outcome of the season would be as of today?
Would SDSU be undefeated in FCS and rolling to another title and would UND be 7-5 and thinking about next season? I know what my answer would be...

Both games are on the offensive coordinator. Couldn’t keep his dick in his pants in either game.
Agreed. There is a track record over the last few years of bad situational and complimentary football.

Does the HC believe and behave as if they will (not can, will) win every week.
Mindset.
Not a chance this is the case. How many games this season did we come out like we were not even interested. NOt motivated, not confident, not going to play fast.

We could have beaten Sac State and USD with the exact same talent We lost due to poor coaching.

Transfer portal losses and additions will be purely a distraction; something to occupy peoples’ time without actually providing substance. Coaching ineptitude is the issue right now. Has been and will continue to be until there is deliberate change. Chaves can’t get any credit nor should he expect improvement if he is simply continuing to observe and not provide action.
Yep. Talent is not the issue. Good coaching yesterday and we are travelling to Vermillion this week to play a team we would have defeated once this season with team which was "all coached up"...
This a broken record, year after year.
Spring 2021 we beat the runner up(would have been champs w/o injury to QB) and were rolling until we did a belly flop in Fargo.
Fall 2021 we would have defeated the champs without one of the worst coaching flops of all time and the season went down hill from there.
Fall 2022 we come out in first round and have no idea what is going on 'til mid way through the second quarter...

Exactly what are we supposed to enjoy? Getting embarrassed at home in the first round of the FCS playoffs, again? There's no reason this team wasn't 8-3 and after winning Saturday 9-3 and on to the next round. We barely beat three really bad teams. We got blown out by UNI. We went 1-4 on the road this season. Are we celebrating the win against Murray State? That team was horrendous (2-9, and 1-7 MVFC). I watched that game in the deer stand, the Hawks almost lost that game. Our friends to the south beat them 38-6. We beat NDSU and the Hawks went soft, the next week, I was reading quotes from the head coach about the team being depleted and not at being full-strength. It's the next man up.
We almost lost to winless Illinois State it was like ISU was the team that had a winning record. Do we want more of this? What the hell are we celebrating? The team is a joke to many in the FCS. But don't worry, we had another winning season. My God! People wanted to run Brad Berry out of town for not making the NCAA tourney. His team has accomplished way more than the Football team. I keep hearing the UND football team doesn't have shiny things like the hockey team. They're getting a brand new locker room. They're getting a new turf at Memorial Stadium. What else do they need? They fly charter to all of their games. Granted they're not getting fed like the hockey team. What is the answer and why can't UND be a powerhouse in football?
In short, its coaching...
-Development including strength and conditioning
-Game planning
-in-game adjustments
-in game decisions
-play calling
-CONFIDENCE

SDSUs is lack of competition?
They may have less weaknesses, but they have all the intangibles in their corner every week too. Sun Tzu.
UND has that confidence against Drake and WIU and that’s about it at this point.

It’s too obvious for everyone else. That’s what’s frustrating. Our garbage defense needed rest and time to go over things and their offense needed to cool off. So a quick score there does not help us other than 7 more points. It’s just not understanding these in game concepts that Bubba and Co have never been good at.
Complimentary football…

I can see what Danny was thinking to start the 4th……I’ll run playaction, catch them off guard and move the ball. Problem is as a team we want to score there but not score quick. Nothing wrong with what we had been doing to that point, pound the ball…..5 minute drive and get them the ball back with 10 minutes left and hopefully behind. It just changes things. Commit to 4 down territory from there in and statistically, we can run the ball down the field. Offense needs to compliment the defense and the staff should know that.
So you are saying Danny outsmarted himself. If it ain’t broken don’t fix it. We not only move the ball and score running it, we keep their qb off the field.

That’s why the talent talk is futile. The leadership of the student-athletes is where the problem lies.
No question. The talent has been there for at least the last 5 years to make deep playoff runs with great coaching and leadership.

The part that kills me about this program is the game yesterday was winnable. A win there and a win at South Dakota and there is a good chance we are playing in the quarters against a team we already beat this season. The talent can always be better but great programs just win. It’s been this way for awhile.

11/17 for 137 yards...... 1 TD and 1 INT
That stat line from your starting QB isn't going to win you any games against any decent team.
As for moving forward:
1. Tommy needs to go
2. Whole coaching staff needs to go
3. Get a young, motivated, and inspiring young coach. Keep as many key players as you can. Then fill in the holes through the portal.
It would be different if he wanted to run and could supplement 140 yards passing with 140 yards rushing, but it is evident he does not want to run.
