Every team that wins it is extremely lucky in addition to being obviously very good was my point. People say “ Carle this and Carle that”, which he deserves, but the difference between him and the other coaches he beat had a lot to do with a goaltender that put on one of the best performances any of us have ever seen.

You have to be so wildly lucky to win this tourney. Riding a 98 save percentage and winning 3 out of 4 by 1 goal is crazy to think about.

According to RA from Spittin Chiclets on Twitter the deal with Carolina is done and there will be a formal announcement tomorrow regarding Blake. That sucks.

As was already mentioned, that was a rare team that was so dang good everywhere else that they didn’t seem to need as much depth. Those guys were also playing their best hockey at that time of the year. I just don’t know what to do with Schmaltz was my point. Zero offense and isn’t overly hard to play against. Not great at faceoffs. Could slide him to wing. I just don’t like thought of him centering a 3rd line again.

Connor Ford 2.0 and Jake Schmaltz as 2 of your 4 centers aren’t winning you a national championship.

For all this “culture” talk it sounds like the majority of us went into this game hoping to win (obviously) but expecting to lose. That’s the definition of a losing culture. That’s the reality. Opposite of clutch. Fade away when it matters.

This is how I feel as well but the sad part is a month ago I would say we were a serious title contender. The meltdown happened in the last month. You want to playing your best hockey going into the tournament and they continue to fade away.

He also has a boat load of points. He’s high risk/high reward. If you ask him to stop taking chances, the points drop off. Let him play. He’ll likely make the hobey hat trick, so maybe find someone else to blame this on?

Western pissed that one away. Thought Omaha and Western outplayed both Minnesota and Mich State but both lose.

How do you let that happen with less than an minute and the game on the line? Terrible.

This problem goes back even further than this year. Look at last year. We were supposed to have a strong d-corps and they somehow all regressed to the point where they were awful. i also look at a guy like Gaber. Nobody could work with him on finding open ice and working on the slowest release in college hockey? No wonder he isn’t scoring goals lately. It takes him 5 seconds and a ton of open ice to get a shot off.

Will Smith with 3 points so far. Likely seals the Hobey.

Zero momentum going into the tourney. This team hasn’t played like a tourney team in quite some time. Hard to see them flipping a switch.

If that’s the case I don’t know why they would have him around the team as much as he’s been.

My argument against the BC guys is there are 4 that are close in points and that none of them is the clear cut best player on their own team. I haven’t watched them much, just going off stats. Blake is 20 points ahead of the next UND guy.

UND could be dangerously close to losing a #1 seed if Denver and Michigan State keep winning and they drop the first game next weekend. Pairwise is tight 3-5.

I’ve been critical of Schmaltz all year but he’s having a great game. Assist to him for drawing the penalty.

At least they don’t have to worry about playing a full 60. Got that out of the way.

What are you doing Pyke. UND has been terrible in their own end this weekend. Shades of last year.

Dude looked like a dork with a loaded WJC team. Won’t ever get another shot he coached so well. Outstanding at getting a bunch of grinders (which I thought you hate) to buy into boring defensive style game where you hope to get the bounce to win 2-1.

Hopefully that mini zam guy goes home without fish and a tank full of fuel.

Does Blake have a shot at the hobey considering there is an argument that any of the BC guys may not be one of the top 2-3 best players on their own team? Who is the best player between smith, perreault, gauthier, Leonard?

He would be suit popping drinking coca colas up top if he was still here so I guess he made the right decision. Feel good moment for him even if extremely short lived.
