  1. I think that we did keep the signs, though I didn't personally. I will be watching the game tonight with the guy who I think kept the signs. I will check and see if he still has them. I'll let you know if he still has it.
  2. I was in with the group that held the Mediocre Signs last year at the Final Five. That was alot of fun. Someone else actually brought those letters down to us so we can't really take the credit. We just held them. I think that this will become a new Final Five / Gophers tradition though. We did make a sign that said "Briggs: He's no Hauser." The Gopher fans by us even liked that one.
  3. I see the Sioux are winning in this fair and balenced poll.
  4. If you really want to know where all the $$$ from the REA is going you can find out. UND is a public institution and the information has to be made available (thank you Freedom of Information Act). Too answer the question that was raised earlier. I personally live too far away to be affected by this. I am not a season ticket holder and to not contribute to the FSC, rather I have donated directly to the school for academic purposes. I have absolutely no doubt that the REA and UND are doing what it can to best maintain and improve the quality of its athletic department and ensure opportunities for present and future student athletes.
  5. This sounds like some excessive whining to me. This is a public institution not professional team. The REA is not looking to screw alumni, rather it is doing what is necessary for the school to fund it's programs. You are making a FSC donation and yet you are looking for some sort of entitlement. That is greed on your behalf. Increased revenues are not going to make the REA executives rich rather they are going to fund athletic scholarships and build new facilities which make that athletic department the best it can be. I commend the REA when it finds ways to successfully increase revenue. Especially when it can do so without doing it at the financial expense of students. Public Universities are facing serious challenges due to politicians who choose to underfund their public institutions (and some would say their own futures). At the same time unionized staff have been seeing double digit growth in compensation (not pay but total compensation, I know how good those other benefits are relative to the private sector). As a result of this tuition has skyrocket everywhere sucking up scholarship dollars and making it more difficult to raise the capital to endow future scholarships. And some of you are whining because you may need to wait longer to get beer (and other similar complaints). Get over it. Some complaints have been valid, this one seems silly. And besides what kind of pathetic loser can't drink enough before the game to stay lit up for the duration of that game. END RANT...
  6. BC #1 Duluth #3 and Minnesota is somehow still rated... http://www.uscho.com/rankings/?data=uscho1m
  7. My Testimonial from Maine... A long read so either enjoy or ignore. My wife and I went up to Maine to see the games and had a great time. We didn't go on the Charter so we could stay for a week. I love that Maine Lobster. The people in Maine were genuinely nice (not like Minnesota nice or Southern Hospitality...) and almost made me feel bad cheering aginst them. If you have the opportunity, take the trip in the future. Maine's state and national parks are great, particularly Baxter State park. The Alfond is an interesting rink, but the comparisons to the old Ralph didn't work for me (The Alfond was far too nice and didn't even have wooden benches). I was a little diappointed with the lack of passion from the crowd. There was a disturbing level of sobriety in the student section... Pat's Pizza was a good pregame place. The Maine fans remind me of the fans at Minnesota, as the tend to sit on their hands and not make much noise. We (6-7 Sioux fans standing together, SRO) took advantage and made some noise. The fans actually let us get all the way through "... your not a sieve, your a funnel ..." with out doing anything. By the end it looked like all the fans in 4 sections either way were staring at us confused. I know Howard heard us because the puck was in the other end and he was looking over to see what was going on. The band actually starts a chant to tell the fans when to stand. There were a few "we have 2 Championships, how many do you have remarks"... Must not follow the game that closely... The friday night game was a terrible game to watch due to the time-outs and refs. Calls were made needlessly aginst both sides. Appearently the Sioux should not recruit anyone over 6'0" because any contact will result in an elbowing call. The penalty shot was a good call that had to be made. Howard may be a descent goalie, but Stafford exposed him badly. There was no hesitation giving Maine 5 on 3s. It looked like the Sioux were much stronger than Maine at even strength. The best goalies on the ice for the weekend were Parise, Brandt, and Howard, in that order and Howard was a distant 3rd. Parise stole the Friday night game for the Sioux. Given the defensive breakdowns, Maine could have scored 8. The Sioux really outplayed Maine on Saturday and were hands down the better team which became evident after the D cut down on some of the mistakes. I only wish I had a chance to see Radke play. I didn't see Greene do anything dirty on the play where the Maine player got hurt (and lost a few chicklets). The fans were upset at Green and the ref (Hanson), but I asked if anyone actually saw Greene do something illegal and no one did. It looked like the Maine player saw the first defender and went around him not realizing that Greene was next in line and subsequently got flattened with no time to brace for impact. In the interest of safety they really should make Greene where a beeper... The Alfond does not have a replay board so I didn't actually get to see any replays. Wow can the Sioux fly. The forwards remind me of the Blake teams from the late 90's. Kaip looks like a nice find and fit in well on the checking line. As a whole the Sioux can really beat down a team. Maine had just given up by the end of the second game. Finally, talking with some Maine fans I told then that if anyone desides that they need a new rink, DON'T DO IT! Built nice training facilities, but the atmosphere can be destroyed with a new stadium. Even if the new stadium is really, really, nice. A friend told me that I am famous as CSTV had my wife and I on a couple of times including an up close after the game. We stuck around until most of the student section was gone, given the way the game ended. I can die in peace now... If anyone recorded the game I would be interested in getting a copy of that game.
  8. FYI, My wife and I were able to get SRO tickets for the games in Maine through U. Maine. We will go to New England for 1+ week since fall colors should be near peak (and we have never been there before). Any suggestions for what to do or where to go? I might have to make a road trip to Montreal...
  9. I wanted to think about how I felt about this for a while before I posted so I could say something insightful... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
  10. Wow, that is a great photo on the linked page...
  11. That's just sad Deeks Pizza. I'm sorry if you feel that sports that don't appeal to the GF masses don't belong at UND and women can't be respected as athletes. All student athletes at UND have my support, regardless of sport or sex... (Well maybe not the women's hockey team until they get that GPA up. ) I wonder if anyone that is actually associated with Deeks Pizza is aware of the messages that are being posted by someone using their name as an alias. I am certain that the opinions expressed here don't reflect the views of the establishment.
  12. Wow, not alot of respect for the defending national champs... 1) Sioux . . . . . . . 2) Rodents 3) Denver 4) Badgers 5) CC It was a nice run for the dogz...
  13. The mark of a great coach is leaving a program better than he found it. Dean certainly did that. Dean will be missed...
  14. I am also interested in getting tickets for the Gophers series in Grand Forks. I was hesitant to post at first because I figured someone would be biting heads off for discussing tickets in the Hockey section, but then I remembered that this was not POI. I don't know about $1000 per seat, but maybe I can trade my first born... Seriously though, I have a pair of sideline seats, row 11, in the second deck for the nationally televised Minnesota Vikings vs. Green Bay Packers football game at the Metrodome ($120 face value) that I may be willing to barter for 2 lower bowl tickets for both games in the Gophers-Sioux series. For that matter I have the same tickets for all games if another game is more appealing. If anyone is interested let me know. (If my name doesn't already indicate this I am NOT a Gopher rube...) BTW, anybody have any tips for getting Maine tickets without going on the UND charter?
  15. Can somebody who has tried in the past tell me the likelyhood of geting single game tickets for the Maine games? And if they know how to do so?
  16. The New York Yankees of Hockey have been eliminated...
  17. Does anyone know how to get single game tickets for the game in Maine? Can it be done? I would like to go but I would rather plan my own trip and do some backpacking in Maine.
  18. No fair... Those drinking stats were taken during the Hockey season, and thus skwed...
  19. And what school might you be at where you found such an issue? Oh the shame...
  20. As much as a homer as I am. We do NOT have 7 national championships in the last 32 years... (Now 55 weeks from now this statement will be incorrect...)
  21. Sioux by a Touchdown AND a 2 point conversion. Parise with 5 points in 2 periods.
  22. I voted for Connor, Murphy, and Jared Ross. Anyone who doesn't have any penalty minutes does not play much defense. There is a difference between playing hard and being cheap, but in both cases you still end up with penalties if only a few.
  23. And what a terrible weekend it was...
  24. I'm sorry, but I'm just not buying it. HC is a glorified bye, I hope the Hobey pair can pad the stats a little. Let's not forget Maine scored 7 aginst these guys. The reality is that the Sioux should kill them. Lets be clear that Wayne State or Findley would likely whoop this team. And I'm not a player, so don't give me any crap about looking ahead, because that is exactly what I am doing. It must be hard for the players to focus on Holy Cross. We want 10, we want 10, ...
