  1. I've never been more interested in the 2-Deep release as I am this year. The more transfers (Anderson, Bryant, Oliphant, Hembry, Wilson, Buckner, Cooper, Ogbu) that find themselves on it the better in most cases. Here's what I'm hoping for. Transfers on the Depth Chart. O-Line: 2 Starters / 1 Backup WR: 1 Backup DL: 0 (This is the biggest "most cases" example. Hoping Ogbu is more in that 3rd D-End spot, so just off the depth chart) CB: 1 Backup Safety: 1 Starter OLB: 1 Backup

    2023 Recruiting

Repost. Everyone is with @geaux_sioux that you'd like to see more competing offers. From an optimism standpoint though, see the post on 06/27. To me that early period will last until Fall camp. Looking at commits with no or limited competing FCS offers. Each individual will be different, but we don't know where they rank (i.e. Tier) of the other Dakota's / MVFC teams. By this point, I would think schools would be onto Tier 2 / 3 of recruits. Let's use recent offer William Paepke as an example. UND offers him after the Saturday camp (07/16). Keenan Wilson commits to NDSU later on that day (07/16). SDSU (and UND) had offers out to Wilson. SDSU offers Paepke on 07/18. That could just be a coincidence, but you get the point. We don't know where some of these guys were tiered at other schools. The next couple weeks are crucial for UND to get 2 or 3 more from the most recent offer list. What I don't want to see is a late surge like last year. At that point, I think you have really worked your way down the tiers of offers.

    2023 Recruiting

Last year, this upcoming weekend was the biggest recruiting weekend of the year with Flagship Camp #2 going into hosting targeted recruits for tours, etc. Three commitments that Saturday. Hoping 360 will have a post about who will be the main targets this weekend as they’ve done in the past.
  5. Keith McInnis (Waterloo Tender) Sacha Boisvert (Muskegon Tender) Those will be two of them.

    2023 Recruiting

Keep them coming! I've said before and I do mean it that either this coaching staff is above average talent evaluators or above average coaches. They seem to put very competitive products on the field without (as subjective at the FCS level as it is) winning the "recruiting rankings". My thought process has changed over the years, my hope now going into the recruiting season is they get as many commitments as they can during the early portion of the recruiting season (June / July). Guys that they see in person and offer early. Five so far in June is really solid.
  7. Based on the article, I'm letting McFeely interpret the lawsuit, two things stick out. Issue that is being attacked is the way UND calculates the opportunities for females athletes, claiming they over report that number. Call for the court to require UND to provide equal opportunity "by sponsoring additional women's sports", in the same paragraph they do mention in a quote "particularly intercollegiate ice hockey" Unless I'm reading this wrong and as odd as this sounds, but this lawsuit might actually have more merit then the original. All UND has to do and I'm guessing they had to do it originally, but prove it out that there are equal opportunities. Done deal. Where this one differs (I believe) is if you're UND and this somehow doesn't go your way, at worst, you have to add an additional women's sport. Add back Women's Swimming and Diving. That cost about 1/4 UND Women's hockey did. My major issue with the original lawsuit was what made Women's hockey so much more special then Women's Soccer or Swimming and Diving. This one seems to take that specificity of the actual sport out of play.
  8. Slipec playing in the Chicago Steel Development Camp All-Star Game (along with Perron and Livanavage). Would be great if he decided to play in the USHL this year instead of the BCHL.
  9. Just gave it a listen. This post was a little misleading. Kolpack when talking about the IPF did say they have been building for the past 10 years and that NDSU would accept a Mountain West invite if it was extended. You did fail to mention that Kolpack said he doesn't think the invite is going to happen.
  10. Not great. Carroll came in as a Freshman at 265. Weights for the O-Line did not change for anyone from the Fall Roster in 2021 to Spring 2022, so we don't know what he actually is at now. Going back at Center weights: Ghadaksaz: 290 (Senior) Nguon: 295 (Senior) Rooney: 289 (Senior) Everyone being different, but hopefully he can gain 20lbs in a year. 285 would be a little light, but doable.
  11. I would agree with your Ghadaksaz assessment. Any starter of course is an important piece to the Football team, but Waletzko being on one side of the spectrum, I would but Ghadaksaz more in the serviceable / average side. To me there's two keys to the offensive line. Center position: By far the biggest unknown. Both at Starter / Back up. Are we looking at best someone that can be at Ghadaksaz level? Carroll as a RS Freshman starting makes me pretty uneasy. At this point, I would take serviceable / average at that position. Two Deep: Where do those transfers fit in on the depth chart? What would make me the most optimistic is if both starters at Guard are from the transfer portal. This would tell me the talent level of that group (over last year) would really be improved.
  12. How Did UND Grade Out In The Portal? - UND Football 360 I know this has already been posted in the Transfer Portal topic, but my response is more appropriate for here. Very good read. My main reason for optimism after last Fall was the low turnover on the lines. To reiterate, you lose from Fall to Spring D-Line: Seguin (Starter) Lickfeldt Hudson (True Freshman) O-Line: Ghadaksaz (Starter) Waletzko (Starter) Langstaff That's not nothing of course, but replacing 6 total is relatively low.
  13. Hopefully most of them are since zero were ready this year, which is absurd.
  14. I am with @forksandspoons, not only a net positive, but probably not that close. Trying to be objective. Looking at some bullet points. It's important to note that the returning roster at each positional group plays into the overall impact as well. Sizable Positive Impact. Offensive Line: 3 in vs 0 out. The O-Line will be considerably better and deeper than they would have been, because of the portal. Safety: 1 in vs 0 out. Buckner seems to be a player. Legitimate 2-Deep guy. Small Positive Impact. OLB: 1 in vs 1 out. For one season, I think you take Cooper as a Grad Transfer over Urwiler as a Sophomore. Small Negative Impact. D-Line: 1 in vs 1 out. I'm taking Seguin over Ogbu. Running Back. 1 In vs 1 Out. Talent wise, you're just not replacing Otis. Other factors at play there as well which downplays the negative impact to that position group. Medium Negative Impact. Tight End: 1 Out vs 0 In. Riviere was the best blocking TE on the team last year. They don't lose a lot at that position, but when you're talking blocking TE, it's tough to gauge. Sizable Negative Impact. Cornerback: 2 Out vs 1 In. You lose your # 2 / # 3 guys. It went from a position of strength to one that you worry about / an unknown. No Impact: Wide Receiver: 3 Out vs 0 In.
  15. Also really did well in the portal and have a really high end forward coming in their freshman class. As weird of a year as it was for SCSU last year and I still think talent wise, they take a step back next year, they'll still be pretty good. They'll end up in much better shape next year then I thought they would when the season originally ended (think Western next year compared to this past year). I also think Duluth will be better than I anticipated next year. Step back, yes, but still solid. I know that sounds odd as Duluth has been one of the gold standard teams, but they brought back so much this past year. The portal is definitely changing things as there really is not ever really going to be a "reset" year for the "haves" of college hockey.
  16. Revisiting this a month later. Minnesota was the clear cut # 1 a few weeks ago, but they definitely took a hit last week. I would put them even with UND going next year. Both still very firmly in the Top 5. Can someone give me a break down of Denver / Mankato? Denver loses their Top 2 scorers. Chrona is coming back. They have picked up the Top 2 Forwards in the portal. There still seems to be a lot of moving pieces. Guttman / Stapley? I guess it's wait and see. I would say right now though, Denver would be my #1. How about Mankato? Did they have a lot of 5th year guys? Losing McKay / Smith is huge, but do they lose anyone else? Such a weird program, it feels like they never lose a huge chunk of guys.
  17. Just found out per Schlossman's article that he's only a Junior as well, so he wouldn't even be eligible to come in next year.
  18. Maybe not he logic, but @rochsioux is correct.
  19. This I agree with. I have my foot in a few different camps. Like almost everyone else, he would have been my 5th choice to come in this Fall from the incoming Freshman class. At the same time, if I was constructing a 15/16 person forward group for next year, he would have been on it. It's a nice pick up for Duluth, don't get me wrong, but I am surprised with how "sought after" he seemed to be.
  20. At this point in the offseason that shouldn't matter. You would think you'd have your returners / incoming Freshman pretty much locked in. I can understand one (i.e. Duluth for Spicer), but making room for two seems crazy to me.
  21. Coming off the Spicer to Duluth and Denver receiving commitments from the top 2 portal forwards, but how do these teams have roster spots available late April / May? More of a question for Denver then Duluth. Two seems like a lot of space to have.
  22. Denver has at least two very high end incoming freshman forwards so you would think that you’ll see more leave.
  23. DeRidder has played in 70 NCAA games.
