Omaha like the majority of the league seemed to return almost everyone from last year. They are a solid team. Need UND to start to get healthy, losing both 27 / 19 in one game when they are already thin at forward is ridiculous.
-
Have never heard Berry be that direct.
-
There will be nights next year where those 6 will be the d-core. Fun to see how they match up a year early.
-
Brent Johnson played well in the 3rd. Learn by playing. Really like that Bast / Johnson are getting minutes this weekend.

I'm a huge fan of next years class and really UND's pipeline in general. The Berry vs Minnesota (since Motzko) has been the one aspect that has bothered me the last few years. This does need a little further explanation, because yes, I am ignoring Perron for example (or Strathmann). One can assume that Minnesota most likely wanted them, but we really don't know that for sure. The same could be said for UND and Moore. I'm talking about guys where there have been articles about the other teams involved (ex: Knies / Broz) or Chesley where before he committed to UofM, it was quoted as saying he was down to UND / UofM. There was a dman recently that plays in Sioux Falls and UND was in his Top 3 (with Minnesota), you can guess where he picked. I'm not saying that Minnesota was never interested in any of UND's recruits, but I never remember seeing (outside of Kleven) an article recently that lists UofM as one of the other top candidates of a UND recruit.

There will come a day when Berry actually beats out Motzko for a recruit. Hasn't happened in years (if ever), since he's gotten to Minnesota, but someday.

Through January. Blake (03) - Chicago: 18-33-51 (35GP) *2nd USHL in points* / +14 McLaughlin (03) - Sioux City: 19-27-46 (35GP) *Tied 6th in points* / +10 Strinden (02) - Muskegon: 17-20-37 (37GP) *16th in points* / +22 James (03) - Sioux City: 12-20-32 (34GP) *Tied 25th in points* / +11 Spicer (04) - NTDP: 11-12-23 (33GP) / +6 Very good numbers from that group.

Completely agree.
-
3 more points tonight. He’s now in that Tier 1 of USHL points leaders. Dylan James with 2 points as well, he now has 32 points in 34 games.
-
Regardless how this OT goes, very fun game. Kudos to that 4th line, I’ve been harder on that line than anyone and they’ve been excellent all weekend.
-
Like the way they are playing 5 on 5. That PP though is next level bad. I cannot believe that those coaches think that’s the way to go.
-
Then they come out the next shift and dominate.
-
I’ve been hard on the 4th line, but they have been noticeably better than Senden / Jammer line. What happened to those two?

St. Cloud at UND - Battle Between 7 of last 8 Penrose Cup Champions
AJS replied to GoalieMask's topic in Men's Hockey
My school of thought is, a team can't lose (virtually) every single Friday, right? Eventually, they'll get one. Seems like the moment most (me included) really start to get frustrated, that's when they'll do a 180. Note: Or this could be 2017 (or 2018?) all over again. Where you wait and wait and next thing season is over getting swept on the road. -

% chance that Hellsten starts tonight? There's no way that he goes back to Driscoll is there? -

Excited for this series. I'm putting a lot of stock in tonight's game. This team is wounded, no doubt, but ultimately, all it takes is potentially one game to stop the bleeding. Win tonight. Offensively, they'll come around eventually. I'm not saying this is some high powered offensive team, but they aren't as bad as they've shown over the last two weekends either. Really concentrating and hoping for (1) Good performance from Hellsten (2) Defensively be solid. Do those two things and win a close one type of game (3-2) tonight. -
I know Puck Preps has filled this void to an extent, but talking about Cooley, I cannot find anything on him. You would think that one reporter would ask him his plans for next year, if he's still thinking the college route. Does he have a Top 3, Top 5. Its odd how little information there is.

Here's my Cade Littler confusion. Seems like a nice player, over PPG as a mid-04 in the BCHL. Did UND offer? From what I've gathered, his Mid-Term Central Scouting Ranking of 198 would not fly with so many on this board. This place is getting worse and worse over the years.

Here's my question. Take out Men's hockey. Why do UND's other programs have no money. How does that change? Cutting sports / conference change saved a lot of money, but do those savings just shrink the overall budget, so really, no additional money for programs. Thinking of individual events (NDSU Football / Gopher hockey over Thanksgiving (no students). Let's say UND Football averages 1000 more fans per home game than usual. Does that even matter? Will that money increase funding? I'm rambling, the overall sentiment and frustration is UND doesn't appear to be in any better spot now financially then they were in 2015 playing in the Big Sky with 21 sports.

Blake (2nd in USHL in points) and McLaughlin (7th in USHL in points) were both drafted last year. Two drafted '03's that are in the Top 10 in the USHL is a great start. That's a solid 1/2 start to a class. Strinden (17th in USHL points) mid-'02, played in the Bio-Steel All-American game. Most likely will be drafted by all accounts this summer. James (35th in USHL points), highest rated recruit (potential 3rd rounder). Spicer, who's having a solid year with the NTDP. Reason for optimism. No first rounders or even second, but this is a class where all 5 Forwards are likely to be drafted is impressive. They are all currently performing very well. Taking Spicer out as the NTDP's schedule is unique, having your 4 other forward recruits all be in the Top 40 in the USHL is impressive. Side note: Livanavage (33rd in points) as a d-man and Perron ('05) is 31st in points. UND has 15% of the Top 40 scorers in the USHL as recruits. That's impressive.

2021-22 University of North Dakota Hockey Season

I agree with this, the issue being (and this is on Berry), they didn't have anyone else to bring in this past year. That's proof by Montgomery not playing right now over Ness / Albrecht. We can circle back in a few years to see how Ethan Bowen does at Vermont. I find it very hard to believe he wouldn't be more capable than the "bottom 4" forwards on this years team. I do though agree with the thought. This year, you're kind of stuck in the middle. -
Equally as poor as Sather. Will be interesting to see what program gets the first win of 2022.

UND @ WMU - Saturday Game Day - Let's get a win in 2022!
AJS replied to brianvf's topic in Men's Hockey
I find it hard to believe there was a time this year where one person said “we cannot be beat” let alone this board being on fire with that sentiment. They got worked most Fridays the first half. Agreed, definite slump and it will get better, but come on with the we cannot be beat stuff. -

Things become less frustrating once you accept it for what it is. This team will not make the playoffs this year. I'm looking forward to the rest of the year with an eye on next year. Extra emphasis on the D-core and Hellsten. Especially once Sanderson goes to the Olympics. Can Hellsten continue his play from WMU series and really solidify himself as a guy you feel good about heading into next year. Likewise, can this team tighten up defensively, like they did last game. I do think the Forward position not this year, but next year would be easiest to fix.
