I’m convinced there will be less “key” portal exits, because of the decision.
-
Annoyed how this tweet is framed. Dumb people will read it as if he somehow turned the job down.
-
The way I look at it, as long as a decision is made by Sunday, then the timing is fine. You need the new coach to meet and have a discussion with the team before the portal opens. No later. Crazy time where days really do matter.
-
I took Kelly’s comment as it’s possible to do that, but that’s not how UND is going about it.
-
Not who do you want it to be, but who do you think it will be?
-
Not wrong. Few had good competing offers (which in recruiting is the main thing I focus on), but not too many more than most years.
-
The defense has been a complete dumpster fire for years. I'm ok making the assumption that whoever it is that takes over won't continue the status quo.
-
Clearly with the portal it's important to keep your key players while at the same time, shedding guys who didn't pan out making room for upgrades. Maybe I'm just projecting here, but does anyone else think there will be less "key" players that enter than would have originally? Almost the opposite of what you'd expect.

Could be a completely dumb take but putting it out there. Clearly those with HC experience that have had or are having success have proven they have the skill set. The skill set needed as a HC can be different than that of a positional coach. That person (IMO) needs to have a lot of the qualities I think Bubba lacked. Be charismatic, confidence, swagge, dynamic. We need someone who can recruit, recruit, recruit. Someone that can inspire, who embodies confidence. I'm less interested in how Schmidt did as a D-Coordinator in Yr 1 at a bad SDSU program if he has all those qualities. Why I'm so against Baldwin is his last HC job was a dumpster fire. I don't know anything really about the candidates. I want the guy to have those qualities. More risk tied to a guy who hasn't done it before, but I'm ok and almost prefer taking a swing for the fences. Everything is in place, so there is a decent safety net for the new coach. Just needs to have the qualities. Btw. Need to keep Freuchte as the OC. Seems to have "it". I'm also becoming more and more ok with him being the guy as well.
-
Of the three mentioned by @Shawn-O hope it’s Caruso. Agreed, want Freuchte to stay on as OC.
-
Kelly is on with Jack Michaels. One name he mentioned was Joe Woodley.
-
Looking at the stats, Schultz plays for a Chicago team that cannot score. Leading scorer has 14 pts. Schultz just two off the lead and .01 PPG off the leader. Seems to be adapting well.
-
Why wouldn’t he? IMO, it raises his profile big time.
-
UNI has no $. Let’s go Chaves, got get him!
-
All signs are really pointing to Travis Johansen being the guy. The hype train is picking up steam, seems to be if not everyone’s first choice at the very least someone everyone likes the idea of. Are we ready to have @The Sicatoka contact Chaves and tell him Siouxsports.com has endorsed Travis Johansen for the next head coach? @UND-FB-FAN @Oxbow6
-
Let’s will Travis Johansen into existence. Seems like the home run pick. Someone whose goal is to build and move up.
-
I would hope so. The last 10 years is so incredibly underwhelming. He’s the one that brings the least amount of enthusiasm when I think of him as the next coach.
-
> 50 Imo, it has to be someone where this won’t be their last job. I can be easily convinced though. If the spin is, “young” 58 and checks every box, not only from a coaching side, but also charismatic, etc. Going up against the SU’s, the new coach needs to be dynamic. Is Hoffner?
-
I would do Hoffner before Baldwin, but that’s it. What are we doing here. They aren’t going to hire someone who is 58 years old. Young and hungry.
-
Closing now on the 4th. Think Chaves has his guy.
-
@UND-FB-FAN is Baldwin known as a great recruiter? I could be placing way too much emphasis on age tied to the qualities I'm hoping to see (Charismatic, Confident, Swagger). I'm just trying to keep an open mind to all.
-
Is it too simple to just say recruiting, recruiting, recruiting? Is what is not working currently a scheme issue or a talent issue, or both?
