Right? Unfamiliar with D2 football. I can tell you, quick research, I actually was excited about the possibility. Wasn’t with Bemidji or Mankato coaches.

There a reason he hasn’t been brought up before? Why wouldn’t he have been the #1 D2 target? Or at least one of the top.

All he knows is winning. He’d bring the juice! Could you imagine him staring Jimmy or Polasek down across the field?! He wouldn’t be intimidated!

Roehl would be awesome. @Oxbow6 where would Roehl rank on bringing the juice to the program?

It’s also beyond absurd to me that with a 34 million $ athletic budget, adding $300k in FB salaries yearly to be competitive is not a foregone conclusion. So, there really isn’t a current head coach that’s a proven winner or a Coordinator that checks the boxes we need? Count me in to hoping they go for a fresh start.

Is there anyone that the majority of this board would be happy with? Pretty depressing thread.

Would someone with no UND ties take Bubba’s access card away and ban him from the building? This is probably a naive take. Bubba like everyone had strengths and weaknesses. The perceived weaknesses I saw (excitement, confidence) were so glaring when it came to recruiting and “when something went wrong” in the game. That look we all know when they showed him was crazy. Might not be a coach that instilled less confidence. Road games. Somebody to say enough. There clearly are strengths too. Those will be utilized in the new position. Even recruiting, have him around the players and parents, he just cannot be the guy making the offer in the room. Which of course he won’t be anymore. I’m good with whatever. I’ll spin it either way. MAYBE, someone like Schmidt can be the ultimate win / win.

Recruit, recruit, recruit. Everything is in place now (well technically next month). Schmidt was on the sidelines for the national championship game last year. Have him bring that juice / confidence / swagger back to UND. I’m ready to talk up anyone. UND has everything in place. Sell it! You could tell with SDSU (South Dakota) the last few years with recruiting. It’s infectious. Let’s see that with portal class!

Agreed. Same w/ Freuchte. I don’t like having Bubba around, period. Good news is the worry could very well be for no reason. The defense is beyond broken. I think we give everyone the benefit of the doubt and say changes will be made. I’m excited, for whoever it is. I’m 100%, with whoever. Here’s what I want to see / feel from now until Day 1 of 2nd semester. • Excitement from the fan base. I want to feel momentum. • Win round 1 portal. Keep key players. O-Line, RBs, Young secondary players. Limited scope enter first 48 hrs. From there more be team fit than player decision. • Big changes in staff • DIFFERENCE in portal offers. Limited offers so far, very inline with past years. Should he no surprise, same staff. • Recruit, recruit, recruit. New level of athlete. Have there be a new feeling. New confidence around the program.

Schmidt & keep Freuchte on as OC. Let’s lock this in!!

I’m kind of in shock. I shouldn’t be, since Chaves apparently is doing the most Chaves thing possible. Like others have said, Freuchte might be the right call. I hope to see instantly a stark difference from everything Bubba. Blow up the defensive staff. Keep the critical players from entering portal. That will start building excitement. Win the portal!

Normalcy, yes, but no way someone is tweeting that out if there’s a chance they won’t be Coaching there in the next couple days.

Moving on, but Hobie not starting tonight really rubs me the wrong way.

Berry being Berry. Performance matters only for certain players, others are exempt.

Yes! You’re so much better off being a portal player under Berry. Incredibly frustrating Hobie isn’t in net. I’m ok with the rotation, but make it make sense how TJ gets another start.
