capitols prospects - hf 11. Joe Finley, D, 21Acquired: 1st round, 27th overall, 2005 Finley completed his fourth season with the UND this year, and continued his solid play from the blueline. In 27 games, Finley, an assistant captain with the Fighting Sioux, scored two goals and added eight assists in 27 games. He also showed a willingness to throw his weight around to the tune of 56 PIMs. And that weight is considerable. Finley stands out from the regular hockey crowd -- at 6'7, 240 he stands out from most crowds. In early April the Caps got the big blueliner to ink a two-year pro contract, which permitted him to get into one game with the Bears. He gave Hershey a taste of what to expect next season as, while he didn't get any goals or assists, he finished the game plus-one, and racked up seven minutes in the penalty box. Expect more big hits, physicality, and solid defensive play next year in the AHL from the tall blueliner. Finley recently left the Bears, with the team's permission, to finish up his degree work at the University of North Dakota.

and duncan would be the first person out there like he did in his hobey speech saying he was the 3rd best player on his line. he understands it as many others do but he put up the numbers and he won the hobey. duncan playing overseas has nothing to do with a damn hobey baker. nothing at all. come on with that. its a college award and duncan played great that season and was in the right situation and won the hobey baker. so its all about the nhl? hell bonin barley played in the nhl and had 2 seasons overseas http://hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=470 so do these players hobey mean less as well since they havent play 12 games in the nhl yet or a full time nhl fixture? in your opinion it may be so and thats cool as i respect that but by saying duncan benefited from toews and oshie isnt really earth breaking news sertich was the 2005 hobey and has played 3 years in AHL after being undrafted http://hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=67727 junior lessard has played 27 games in nhl after 2004 hobey http://hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=54881 sejna from cc has played 49 nhl games before jumping back overseas to have a career making a hell of a lot more money after his 2003 hobey http://hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=54063 wow doing this research just shows how bad ass the wcha is as a whole regarding the hobey since 2002 i guess bottom line my point is IMO playing in the nhl right away has nothing to do with winning a college hockey award and the top award at that as not all have and wont. we dont know what duncan will do in his career and i dont think he ever will play in the nhl but in the end he has a hobey and thats pretty damn sweet

zajac wins a silver in worlds. canada loses to russia per brad http://www.areavoices.com/undhockey/ Zajac, Canada take silver Although Travis Zajac and the Canadians fell to Russia 2-1 in the gold medal game today, Zajac became just the seventh former Sioux player to win a medal at the World Championship. Since 1967, only Zajac, Jonathan Toews, Zach Parise and Mike Commodore have won medals at the Worlds. The Russians won the tournament for the second year in a row, beating Canada both times. Ilya Kovalchuk was named the tournament's most valuable player. Former Sioux World Championship medal winners: 2009 Travis Zajac, Canada, silver 2008 Jonathan Toews, Canada, silver 2007 Jonathan Toews, Canada, gold Mike Commodore, Canada, gold 2005 Zach Parise, USA, bronze 1967 Art Miller, Canada, bronze 1950 Milton Johnson, USA, silver Russell Johnson, USA, silver 1949 Milton Johnson, USA, bronze Russell Johnson, USA, bronze

HF Islanders prospects 5. Jason Gregoire, LW, 20 Acquired: 3rd round, 76th overall, 2007 At 5'11, 175 pounds, Gregoire has some growing to do, but when it comes to scoring, the Winnipeg native is already showing a precocious nature for finding the net. After lighting up the USHL for the previous three seasons, including 2008 where he was named the league's top player, Gregoire made the jump to the collegiate ranks, joining the University of North Dakota. There, Gregoire became a strong contributor right away. In 42 games, Gregoire scored 12 goals and added 17 assists, helping the club into the Frozen Four tournament and a heartbreaking overtime loss in the first round. Gregoire needs to add some bulk, but the Winnipeg, MB native should have at least one more season, if not two, in the collegiate ranks to hone his skill and fill out his frame. 14. David Toews, C, 18 Acquired: 3rd round, 66th overall, 2008 Toews doesn't have the upside of his older brother, but he shares the same competitive fire that has propelled Jonathan to success in Chicago, and the Islanders hope that he can bring some of those qualities to their roster in the future. The younger Toews is a solid two-way player who has already displayed some offensive upside. In 23 games with the University of North Dakota, Toews accounted for 11 points, including five goals. The totals aren't outstanding, but they mark a solid contribution for a rookie in the NCAA on a team as consistently talented as UND.

team usa just doesnt seem to be able to win big games and havent for a while now. decent showing overall and a bronze medal could be the end result. i really really hope when it comes to olympic time they go young and very young with the oshies, kessel, okposos, backes EJ ect.........my reasoning is the middle crop of usa players have been lacking imo, the older guys who were a fixture are now old. i can see a veteren or 2 on the team but i think the future is bright for team usa with parise, kane and others mentioned. just is hard to compare when you then think of russia and canada thinking of players like ovechkin, malkin and the rest of the red army and then canada with crosby, toews, iginla, hell i could go on for a paragraph on canadas young elite stars -
because 1 player is outplaying 1 other player is the reason? i find that hard to believe with hockey being such a team game but i will agree that is a reason. ward has been very good and has given his teammates a huge boost of confidence. ward had 36 saves in the game 2 win which was huge. pengiuns will tie it up tonight and i have a hard time not picking boston but i guess who knows right now. chara hasnt been good at all and the offense hasnt stepped up as a whole scoring only 2 total goals in the 2 losses

getting back to forney i have been told he should be able to play 2 years no matter what college he chooses to go to next season. i could be wrong on this as well but last year would have been his sit out year. isnt bennett going to UW after playing for BU 2 seasons ago and now will play for UW this season? bennett http://hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php?pid=95346 -

i like teams with 2 extra forwards and 1 extra d man. i dont like having 3 and 2 for healthy scratches unless they are players that know their role like a davidson as a example. just seems to stunt growth overall with having so many extra players. in understand injury wise its nice to have but when you recruit like UND does and the caliber of players i just like the 1 extra healthy scratch compared to what they had last season -
just get the coyotes out of here. it would have been fine if they didnt place the arena way out in glendale. this is a transit city where everyone is from somewhere else but they also latch on as well to a decent franchise. that wasa proven late 90's when they were pretty good. its been a distaster since they moved to glendale and now i hope they move just like they should move atlanta, nashville and florida to hockey markets. bettman is a f'n idiot as we all know. he needs to go NOW or hockey is always gona be in trouble overall. he has 3-5 players he could market the crap out of and he hasnt at all to help the sport. the funny thing is the city of glendale had a 750 million dollar buyout if the team left that arena making it empty so not sure on that stance right now

off topic and sorry jim but easily THE most talented wide out we have ever seen in the nfl speed wise, jumping wise and hands wise. sorry. ask any veteran wide out and they will tell yo u the same answer... just because you dont like a player personally you cant knock his talent right? just like gopher players when they turn pro? isnt that similar? dont hate on randy becausae he doesnt do things like you like him to do but i understand you dont like him. when randy gets arrested for spousal abuse, cocaine overdose and arrested for gun posession and other things every other wide out/nfl player does then we can talk. until then some fans and media need to relax

randy moss is my favorite player and please with him being blacklisted there are players out hitting thier wives, doing hardcore drugs and other crap. funny

most all rivalries at then end of the day are between the fans for 90% of the rivalry. you will have a few players that dislike eachother and thats fine but most all played with or against eachother up until college and spend of seasons conditioning as well. my % is focusing more before and after the game itself as we all know during that 60 minutes friendships are pushed to the side and the tradition of the rivalry is all that matters! i cant stand ndsu , u of arizona as a whole or gopher hockey. i would never ever cheer for them if it was my last option for anything and i hope they would say the same thing regarding the sioux. its a different ballgame when players leave for the pros. some players fans may dislike more than others but a good fan can respect the talent of any player no matter what team they play for.
-
most all players that play for the sioux, gophers, denver, uw and so on all played together at some point in a select team, all star team, juniors, midgets ect........tons of gophers/sioux/uw/scsu players work out together in off seasons especially when most are from minnesota and live there in the summers. the bruins took one on the chin last night. good game by carolina. ryan bayda > wheeler/kessel

forney never should have came straight to UND in the first place. sometimes you miss on players right away and sometimes you get them right but injury wise and strength wise the ushl should have been the first route. oh well, thats over with now and yes you are right. he will have a say in who all comes in but no fence to forney as i like him as a player and im sure he has worked his butt off to get healthy and stronger but i wouldnt detour a top incoming prospect to ushl or back to their respective league to have him back. i hope people understand my point on this as its not a slap to him at all i know that may be his only smart choice to come back to UND having 2 years left and not having to sit out but these incomers are more important for the future of the sioux program overall if they are ready to come in and play right away. i know hak knows exactly what hes doing and thats not what im getting at but hope everything works out good between hak and the potential incoming top recruits in knight, mattson and rowney possibly. im sure we will all know soon enough
