If Big Ten Offers UND Should They Join?
BarnWinterSportsEngelstad replied to Cratter's topic in Men's Hockey
If the B1G asks UND to join. Here's one way you compare the B1G to the NCHC. You put UND in the middle, and compare the 7 team B1G to 7 teams left in the NCHC. UND has been in a conference with 12 of the 14 teams. B1G UND NCHC National Champs 23 8 9 Frozen 4's 71 22 33 NCAA's 139 31 88 Winning % NCAA's .582 .675 .470 Record in NCAA's 184-132 52-25 79-89 Avg Yr started Div1 1958 1947 1969 Avg Arena size 9,565 11,640 7,184 Last Season #'s : Home Games 126 19 122 Home Av Attendance 6,476 11,675 4,834 Enrollment in 1,000's 50 15 13.7 Away Av Attendance # games televised Network ratings Avg RPI .5138 .6082 .5262 Head Coach Salary Season Ticket Holders I gathered most info from Wikipedia and USCHO and will try to fill in the blanks later. B1G is probably doing better than most realize? If anyone knows any of above missing stats, appreciate the help? -
Time for someone to Opt Out of the Spectrum. Pretty sad college paper.

NDUS Budget Cuts (changed name to be system-wide)
BarnWinterSportsEngelstad replied to Cratter's topic in Community
Sorry, and in that regard, all I have is a couple of humanities classes. So, bear with me. I understand these cuts are hurting many workers and students. Moral often takes a hit during these times, too. I really hope we move through this in the least amount of pain. -
2016-2017 College Hockey (Non UND Hockey)
BarnWinterSportsEngelstad replied to cberkas's topic in Men's Hockey
I'm all in on this arrangement. Sign up the Bisons, They have like 30,000 students, better hockey country than most, not far away, like you said - already show up here once a year. -

You do have a point, and of course they would love to have one of their own start up hockey, but that's not happening for a while. Maybe they leave NCHC alone and try find someone in Great Lakes area or out East? -

Not so fast, what if B1G snipes a team from NCHC? They'd probably like to get to eight before we get to ten? -
I've highlighted one of your sentences, and made a few comments here before on Sioux Sports about that regard and the word "demeanor" is a better choice than I used. Hak did a great job for UND, UND also helped Hak. Hak is where he belongs. Hak bleed UND green, he wished the "SIOUX" good luck prior to the F4 final game. He gave us his all, and I'm sure will do the same for Philly.

Is there a saying something like "Denfense wins you games".

If Big Ten Offers UND Should They Join?
BarnWinterSportsEngelstad replied to Cratter's topic in Men's Hockey
Things will change, B1G will pluck a team from someone. ASU will join somewhere, AF might move, etc. -
Personally like the green better!!

The B1G might snag a team also to get their numbers to eight?

2016-2017 College Hockey (Non UND Hockey)
BarnWinterSportsEngelstad replied to cberkas's topic in Men's Hockey
How times change, In my junior year of college, UND opened the Winter Sports Center. Heated with 6,000 seats and great lighting, one of college best arenas. Exterior had plate steel, we used to say how we never seen siding on a building like this and that this building would out live us. Well it was recently demolished. -

What I heard at the beginning of the new Ralph Engelstad Building was, that UND maintained ownership of the land and a Corporation was to own the improvements on the land - manage the property - house the hockey team - along with additional agreements with UND, Ralph would build it, and in 30 years UND would own the improvements on the land, the Corporation would be dissolved. Can't prove that, buy I'd think if you went to court house and looked up who owned land, it'd be UND/State of ND, agreements with the building and UND must be available somewhere? -
Of course, that could of created problems at men's games. I faintly remember something like the women's basketball uniforms, might of had a touch pink with mostly green and white, like in the 70's? Home uniforms? Maybe not?

NDUS Budget Cuts (changed name to be system-wide)
BarnWinterSportsEngelstad replied to Cratter's topic in Community
I've taken algebra, geometry, trig, statistics, calculus, linear algebra and all those memories are telling me fast Eddie could of stuck the students for a half percent more of the tuition increase, but didn't. So, in a budget scalpel surgery like this, with the Medical School helping and paying the full 2.5 % increase in tuition, the majority of students have a little less burden than most might have lately expected. And by the way where could of Eddie got the respirator for Baseball Program? -
If Big Ten Offers UND Should They Join?

B1G started the college hockey shuffle 3 years ago, we and others started the NCHC. I'm sure some felt hurt by what happened then. Some realized they got hurt as time passed. Some team movement is bound to happen in the near future. We may not even be in the picture. If we are, we hear them out, think through all our concerns. Then walk or make a good deal. It's not that we haven't been in business with 5 of 7 of these hockey programs before. -
I remember the school colors as pink and green, after the Prairie Rose our State Flower. We used to sing a UND song about the school's colors, the prairie rose, and that our ND green prairies gave us rosy prospects....When I would see the pink roses in a pasture at the farm, I would always have a great feeling. In fact just had that rush! So did the school colors get changed?

BarnWinterSportsEngelstad replied to Cratter's topic in Men's Hockey
Sounds like the B1G doesn't feel a team from within will start B1G hockey in the near future. Also shows some want more than 7 teams in the hockey conference. So, therefore they maybe paving the way for an affiliate membership by developing guidelines as mentioned a few posts back from yesterday's Star Tribune. That could start/continue discussions within the B1G and eventually a hockey program could be asked to join. This time knowing that they won't find a ND with it's own huge sports network contract, causing the B1G to realize they might have to give up a small part of the pie to get who they want? -

Wow, that's 1/2% there, and he gave the Baseball program a respirator. Things must be looking up? -
I agree with they would already know their fate after the next season. See Ya at the BALLGAME!

I would think if we get the 1st million in 2 years (half this year & half next), that would be all spent, and we would still need the 13mill to create the endowment, under today's plan. Or, raise a 1/2 mill every year? But, in two years things could change again and the endowment could be dropped by then. Oil and agricultural products are presently at low prices, which could also change. Two by far largest industries in ND. To me, baseball just seems like it belongs at UND. I agree 21 teams at UND is to many. However if we ever move up in football, and we need to keep a minimum of 16 teams and we decide to do that, wouldn't baseball be a good fit in that mix? There's been talk that these financial talks have been about the future, also. Then one would think the athletic department and president must of had some conversation about the potential of FBS. For baseball to have a second chance, there's more than meets the eye here. UND is not going to let this 2nd chance happen with every cut they are planning on making.

Yes, I walked right in, was very sunny, didn't have a baseball a cap, so shielded the sun from my eyes with my hand. Called my daughter, she came with grandson and a cap. It was a fun game, about 200 people. They had 3 cameras running. Concessions were open, don't know if they were UND's? Field looked in really good shape, kind of sad we might loose it?

The weather was great and UND wins at home in bottom of 9th at Kraft field. I didn't notice many donors at the game?
