I wonder if it will go similar to the football search. (Is there an obvious hire that will fall into his lap so that even Chaves can’t screw it up?)

Agreed. There has been nothing on the basketball coaches. If you were going to make a move it probably should have been made already. No announcement of an extension either. (Which Sather, Mal, and Berry don’t deserve) When Mal and Sather were extended last time it was announce Mar 14th. So it does appear there is a chance they let them coach on the last year of their contract, which is crazy to think about.

Was wondering the same thing. It looks like they may lame duck 3 coaches next year… Talk about basically punting and giving up for a year in 3 of your main sports. Chaves contract runs through June 2026. Do they get rid of Chaves soon, let all 3 coaches contracts expire and then let the new AD hire all the new coaches? No idea how this will all play out

Yep and Schmidt hired one this time around. Was something he felt was important and really fought for

Every team in the conference has to deal with it. Fidler transferred from Omaha, Bison losing a bunch again this year, SDSU has consistently lost players, etc… I truly believe we can be successful with the right coach in place. We can cry NIL and transfer portal (which to an extent is a very real issue for mid majors) but we can’t keep repeating those excuses. It’s a loser mentality.

We return a lot on offense and can build of that. I think if the defense is even average next year that’s a win for us.

I like the room for next year. Transfer from San Diego State looks to be the part and I’m also a believer in Kaminsky as well. Return Romfo as well but don’t think he will win the job.

I’m a huge believer in what the offense can do next year. Agreed on the defense, has been all time bad for 2 years and will take some time to turn around.

A couple of good write ups from Kelly. As was expected, seems like the coaching staff will be targeting some more defensive players from the spring portal with DT and LB being the main focus.

The hockey forum would say otherwise… unless that’s not what you are referring to and are only talking about MBB. Chaves does have decisions to make unless he is letting all 3 of them coach on the last year of their contract.
