Sure, everyone follows a winner but some programs get support from fans even when having a down year. The football team loses a game and now most or all support is going away from the community. Those people aren't really fans in the first place, it is just a social event to attend.

I was at UND before the new Ralph and guess what, even thought the football team was winning football didn't get half the support hockey was getting from the students and the community. Hockey wins in GF because it is a hockey first town from youth sports on up. Your point 2 actually sort proves what I am saying. I struggle to understand a lot of the UND fanbase, but this applies to hockey in particular. Hakstol was a great coach at UND but people wanted him fired immediately after the team would lose in the frozen four. It is great to want to win all the time but people at times do not have reasonable expectation of the coaches and athletes. I feel we often demean the other team and players because we don't give them credit but instead place blame on our teams. It is a competition and sometimes you are going to lose, even the mighty NDSU football program usually drops one game a year and sometimes it is to a team that is supposed to get run off the field. The goal should be for UND football to win a national title, but how many years of football happened before UND won it's first title? The team is in a better place now than it was when Bubba was hired but this team isn't a National Championship team right now. Unless we see crazy improvement at a handful of position and that type of development doesn't usually happen quickly.

Facts are facts and this isn't an argument to drop football down to D2, UND and the community doesn't support football or any other sport like it does hockey and that is the truth. I am not saying it's right or wrong but it is the truth. I lived it and know exactly how it was in the situation, and we had a strong program at the time I was playing. Grand Forks is a hockey town first and that isn't a bad thing but you can't expect football recruits to fall all over themselves to play at UND when the school to the south is dominating and is a football town first. It is a minor obstacle for the football program but certainly not something they cannot or will not overcome.
-
I think of it more locally, recruiting becomes more difficult with our neighbor school having so much success. It is also more difficult to sell athletes on UND when that same neighbor school is clearly a football first school while UND is clearly a hockey first school. The athletes do get treated differently. It isn't students filling the stadium for UND games, most other schools the students are big portion of the draw. UND can win a national title but it will take depth and some pretty big talent development. We are a ways off right now, although we have a few bright spots on the field like Mason Bennett.

Football will never be king in Grand Forks, it's a hockey town first and foremost. Hell, when was the last time Grand Forks had a decent high school football team?
-
He had a lot of underthrown passes today including the TD to Wanzek.
-
That is my point, he has the ability to make plays running and I think he or someone needs to when the WR's aren't open. In the first half of games he usually has a few decent to good runs but nothing later in the game.
-
I think he needs to find a QB willing to run a little bit when the play isn't open. Kett can do it, but seems to stop running the deeper we get into the game. In the 3rd quarter he could have made a couple first downs with his legs and didn't.
-
He didn't blitz one or two extra guys though, I haven't looked back at it but when the play started my thought was what the f is he doing. It's OK though, he should get a pass on the terrible call. Probably the entire first half of bad called as well. Double Standard!
-
He wasn't even in position to make the tackle because sometimes players on the other team are good and get the best of one on one situations. So in general you should try not to leave your secondary players on an island all the time because one missed or broken tackle often will be a long play or TD. It was a horrible call at that point in the game!
-
The problem I have is the double standard, Schmidt gets a pass for everything and it is the exact opposite for Rudy. I get taking chances but that call in the that situation was just stupid and it is the reason ISU scored.
-
I think in general we are be over dramatic about the situation. It wasn't a good game for UND overall but the sky isn't falling just yet. Rudy has his issues, but he was far from the biggest issue today. I can't figure out why Schmidt always gets a pass considering the team is defense focused and he gets the bulk of the player talent to work with.
-
I wasn't claiming he was good overall but I saw a lot of far bigger issues than the offensive play calling. It was a bad game for both coordinators and a lot of players.
-
The D gave up over 350 yards in the first half and the offense actually played keep away for a good part of the half. The Defense was better in the 2nd half but flat out sucked in the first.
-
The worst call of the game goes to Schmidt, the last TD ISU scored was because he blitz the house. It isn't a video game! I do think you take some chances in a game but not like that at that point in the game.
-
Now that looks like we are talking about hockey.
-
He needs to stop staring down WR's and run a little when the opportunity presents itself.
-
The boys made a ton of mistakes today, both players and coaches. Learn something and move on to the next game but Rudy needs to look at another QB IMO, even most of the completions were thrown poorly.
-
We do, we just work to damn hard for this team to lose like this.
-
Is that what you took from that game?
-
I think this is the look Andre is going for.

Dakota Wilson Sean Meehan

Dallen Collins and Paul Chapman

Length is key at tackle but I don't know the roster well enough to really have a strong opinion. Some guys and good enough to play outside without needed the length.

I don't think the OL complaints have been very specific. Mostly the fans on here want better OL play with very little idea about how the OL actually works.
