  1. You can be a great OL coach and not be a good OC.
  2. If they hire Hedberg as the OC I don't think I could continue to watch and support the program. Nice guy, but a terrible play caller.
  3. The offense was horrible today and the only bright spot from my perspective is how hard Brady plays and competes. Kett makes a few throws but is not consistent and he doesn't really look over the defense pre-snap. If he did the sack total could have been cut in half because PSU wasn't hiding the blitz. Defensively out tackling still sucks and we apparently do not have one player as fast as that QB today. Gap control sucks most of the time with our defense and we can't seem to contain. That said the defense made some big plays today. I am glad UND won the game but they will need to play a lot better or a playoff game will be an ass kicking.
  4. How many offers did Golladay have coming out of high school?
  5. I am a pretty firm believer that what you do isn't nearly as important as how well you do it. UND stunts out themselves out of position to make plays a lot on defense and because of this we don't have players in all the gaps. This style of defense creates big plays for the defense but it also allows big plays for the offense. Noah Larson looks to me like a very talented LB that gets caught running around a lot because of blitz and stunt calls. I would really like to see him have the chance to read and react on defense instead almost always stunting or running to spot without seeing the offensive play develop. Weber took advantage of UND big time because of this.
  6. Well that is certainly saying something!
  7. Just because someone teaches those things and even if they are good at them it doesn't mean they are going to win. I have been on and coached both poor teams and championship teams throughout my life and the common thread with the good teams was talent, effort, and execution. Coaches have the most control over effort and execution because recruiting is very inexact. Right now I think UND really struggles with consistent execution and effort to a lesser degree. I would say confidence plays a major role as well and the other things you mentioned would be helpful. That said I always learned more and improved more on the teams that struggled to win but nothing is the same for every person.
  8. Quick question about the targeting penalty yesterday. I was hoping someone on the forum will have the answer. These rules are fairly new to football and I haven't bothered to check into them specifically but how is it the refs can not make a call during the play, go back and review and give targeting penalty and negate a turnover. If you are allowed to review a play and make a call based upon review, why can't it be done for every other penalty? We could have a holding review on every single play.
  9. That isn't what I was debating, the statement I was refuting was UND not being competitive which simply put isn't an accurate statement. Oh, and we did beat a top 5 team early in the year.
  10. I guess I don't view it that way. You teach a lot of things as a coach but how do you teach "winning"? A coaches job is to put players in a position to be successful and hopefully make plays. A lot of the time they don't make the plays even when put in the right spot and that blame falls on who? Part of my issue with the defense is that often players are left in near impossible situations because of the ridiculous amount of blitzing we do. Whatever the staff is doing it isn't working as well as most would like but it is tough when you watch the team cave in at the end of a couple games. This hasn't been a bad season, just a disappointing one, and that is mainly because a few glaring mistakes have caused each loss with the exception of the Washington game. One of my biggest reason for thinking a coaching change may be needed is that the team seems to be making a lot of stupid mistakes. At this point in the year that stuff should be cleaned up and that has to fall on the coaching staff.
  11. That is my point, UND is built and a defense first team and the defense has been disappointing. To me this should be a full reset of the coaching staff!
  12. Actually I have never met the guy, but I seen enough of your post to form a pretty reasonable opinion about what you are! Coaching was crap yesterday, but it was all over the field not just one area. I wasn't defending the offense or Rudy in at all but pointing out that they team has a lot of issues in many areas the aren't related to the offense. Don't throw in the BS about the kids deserve better, they are the young men making and not making the plays in order to win or lose the games.
  13. Every team ever has fans that take issue with play calling and I agree Rudy has had some low points and high points. Was the play calling really bad today? I questioned a few but that is normal with any game I watch. I am not saying it isn't time to make a change but Rudy is the excuse most use for all of UND's issues. People seem to be in love with Schmidt and no matter what he does it isn't criticized. The defense last season had the injury excuse but right now they are not consistently performing and a lot of it goes back to coaching and play calling. I feel bad for the DB's because they are left without safety support the entire game because we play video game defense.
  14. That is BS man, do you honestly think the coaches aren't working and trying to win? I promise you they put in more time and effort than you ever have in your life. Football coaches put in more time and effort than you could possibly know.
  15. Pretty sure we are nationally competitive...
  16. It is interesting because I wanted DeBoer at when Bubba was hired mainly because I thought the program needed new blood and to stop living in the past. If you Follow DeBoer and his career I am not certain he would have been the answer though. I don't agree with many that the Rudy is the root of all problems but play calling and offensive consistency is a major issue. The Defense has not been great the last 2 seasons and I hate the blitz every play mentality we are currently using. Special teams is as bad as I have ever seen it at UND which has cost us 2 games this season. This firing the coaches discussion wouldn't be happening if that issue was fixed.
  17. We run the ball just fine, it is the passing game that tends to struggle. Take out the huge sack at the end of the game and I am pretty sure we averaged over 5 a carry. That is more than good enough but the passing needs to make a few more plays and be more reliable. Football, like most things will always have trends but it doesn't invalidate other effective types of play. It comes down to consistency and execution which UND struggles with at times. Mainly in the passing game and stopping the run on defense.
  18. I agree, especially with the way our offense wants to play. I few yards and a running clock is better than a throw away.
  19. I think Kett can run but he just doesn't, probably been told not to run.
  20. I think people over estimate Zimmerman's talent but he certainly plays with energy. I think he would freelance a little more which might be helpful.
  21. Not saying that, just that a QB needs to be able to make the lay up throws and he doesn't much of the time. You can't run into a stacked box consistently, no team really can so the QB needs to be able to consistently make some throws.
