Just got an email from Sioux shop about a jersey clearance. Good sign that the new ones are approaching.

Anyone with insight on Zaide Penner? Fargo kid. Mentioned Brody Gillespie on here once after skating in a pick up with him. Big and skilled, was buried in the lineup in Spokane this past year but will get more opportunities with turnover.

Wife is a prof at U of P. Money and enrollment problems resulting in a downward spiral (like many colleges). From that reddit list Gonzaga, High Point and aforementioned UCSB (as well as the rest of the CA schools) are in areas they need to grow the game. Philly too now that I think of it.

And Clarkson as one of our opponents this year
-
My guess for CA outside of the usual suspects in the Big Ten is UCSB. Rink near campus, insane amounts of money floating around Santa Barbara, and no football team destroying the athletic department's budget.

A week old now, but good conversation with Marek and McMahon. Discusses Martone, Verhoeff and Reschny.

Brad's article today says Keane could end up an Assistant Coach at Bemidji. Good for him, glad his tangential association with Leipsic hasn't stunted his career.
-
Being brought in early and getting limited ice can result in transferring out, possibly at semester. I'd rather we lose Schultz than Simpson in that scenario.
-
Anyone with a subscription to McMahon's newsletter have what he says about Verhoeff?

UNO was his original commitment

Donor and/or former player's son, no doubt.

Schloss from the top rope! https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-hockey/schlossman-college-hockeys-arms-race-has-pushed-its-resources-way-beyond-the-chls I made the same point he makes about Bedard to a friend. Also, calling out someone on Sportsnet by name! Hell yeah Brad.

Smith is giving any municipality in the state of Utah that wants it 500k to build a rink. Hopefully U of U and BYU are in his ear about D1 hockey. Went to Kilby Block Party in May and there was a ton of Mammoth gear there and around town. Obviously some of it is the new car smell but there's a serious buzz about hockey there, especially with the Winter Olympics pivoting to rotating between a handful of existing sites.

As an Oregonian I'd be on board, but according to a former beer league teammate who played club at U of O, Uncle Phil hates hockey after buying high and selling low on Bauer back in the day. He wants to buy a football championship before he croaks. Maybe once he's gone it could happen.

https://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2025/07/08_College-Hockeys-Drop-the.php Wodon doesn't get much love around here, and it's generally his own fault, but this is worth reading. Among other insights, he addresses something on our minds that isn't getting much attention elsewhere: blue chips late in the recruiting cycle is a whole new world.
