Here is what I was specifically talking about how Fargo's growth has helped Grand Forks. http://www.sei-it.com/newsarticle.asp?News_UID=1 They hired 75 professionals and 200 more employees in a couple years. They stated that

Star2City, I assume you have read this: http://www.duluthsuperior.com/mld/duluthsuperior/8867365.htm as it relates to what you have said before. GF was there first option to locate their headquarters, but (I believe) because of GF's business sense it didn't happen, talk about a wasted opportunity. The company says "He said Cirrus is approached weekly with unsolicited offers from communities hoping to lure the company away from Duluth." Hopefully GF is pushing hard to get a Jet division if/when they do expand as Cirrus and UND have already partnered up.

If they close down can I buy a cheap home out there?

Well said. I wrote a simple post and all of a sudden I get ripped on by "Fargo backers" for comparing GF to Fargo. Which is not my point. My point was does having one of the greatest Midwest towns located only 70 miles away help or hurt GF, because everything GF does gets compared to Fargo and/or the competition for people and businesses? Sorry Bison fans for comparing these two ENTIRELY different cities. No common interests whatsoever. Fargo is great, see FargoBisons posts about fargo having "regional shopping center" and a mall, while GF only has a mall, Fargo has 2 hospitals compared to one, GF is a dump and shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence. For all intensive purposes they are alot alike in the perspective of the world (thinking this far may be hard by some bison/fargo people). I guess one cannot compare a 70,000 to a 170,000 towns anymore. I can look up facts that state my point because NATIONAL databases often compared GF, Fargo, Sioux Falls, Bismarck, Billings, St. Cloud, Omaha, but how dare I even mention the two in the same sentence, unlike what some people think when they "think about other towns GF/St.cloud/rapid city does not equal Fargo/Sioux Falls". But it is not worth my time to look up facts. And then I get pointed out by bison fans that Fargo is not a Midsized town, WHO CARES??? It's all subjective. Why the constant nitpicking? I guess it was to much of some to try a higher order thinking. Try for a second to think my intent was NOT a GF vs Fargo thing. DaveK hate is a strong word, I don't "hate," but it gets the point across better. Grand Forks needs to quit being like Fargo? What does this mean? Grand Forks should stop trying to better itself and become big, add more jobs? Stop trying to get businesses to locate there, stop trying to get a waterpark? Bisonator your generalizations are fascinating. I hope some get my point now, there is no arguement, no GF is like Fargo (and get ripped on by The Bisonator) it was if Fargo's growth helped or hurt GF? Oh wait that's what the title topic says. Star2city makes good points. Fargo's growth overall helps Grand Forks etc. A lot of people travel to and from fargo/gf to work. Maybe they should build a high speed monorail linking the cities? It would help increase UND hockey game attendance..

Thank You for making my point for me. One cannot have a normal discussion on this board and other without stupid fargo backers, butting in with no-fact nonsense.

Ok Fgo/Moorehad/west fargo, DO "touch" how far is dilworth from "fargo"? Yes I agree GF, should try being itself, but it's hard when ever you talk about something on a message board you get compared to a nearby city....almost makes it impossible to establish your own identity. Yes believe it or not GF and Fargo are both MIDSIZED towns in the midwest, whether you want to believe it or NOT....
-
Yo, young chap, settle down and learn reading comprehension. I didn't rip on your hometown, I stated I was born in Fargo, and it's one of the greatest cities in the midwest??? WOW some people, take off the blinders. And yes I have been in both FDome & Alerus, try reading my post again, Both are football stadiums...period. I didn't compare atmosphere, attendance, etc. Fargodome is good for the steep sightlines, but overbuilt at the moment. The Alerus is better for the moment in GF with a better capacity stadium (%wise) hence one of the greatest/hardest places in D2 to play. I personally think JimDahl is right the B.Ball team will benefit more than people think. More scholarhship, fans, etc, especially with the airface, which has fans from all over the world. They want to see National Teams, I personally experienced this durin the UND-Kansas game. UND will also benefit from more basketball schollarships, but another thread...

You know what...I feel like arguing tonite, I should have been a lawyer, I get that alot There is not a "surplus of parking spots on campus according to the experts," Americans are lazy, anyone anytime can find a spot at the new REA parking lot. How is that a need for a parking ramp? Granted you are right there may be in the future for a ramp, but I personally think UND may be topping out of students on campus right now....wellness center will add parking? walk from the other side of the REA? Go to a big campus (D1-A) they will laugh at the distance UND folks complain about walking.

Inquiring minds want to know. Anything Grand Forks does gets compared to Fargo, plain and simple. Gas prices in Fargo's are lowers, despite GF's being around the national average. Fargo is one of the greatest midsized town in the country. It is unfortunate that Grand Forks always gets compared to it. Add NDSU/UND and it gets amplified. Is it in Grand Forks's best to colaberate? There seems to be many businesses that say "Fargo/Grand Forks" yet many people leave Grand Forks for Fargo hurting GF's population while enhancing Fargos. Fargo takes away jobs/people from Grand Forks(?), but at the same time Fargo adds jobs to the ND economy and Grand Forks. For one example see the SEI company, one that came to Fargo and liked what it saw in ND and decided to expand. Grand Forks won over Bismarck to add jobs in the area. Anything one does the other seems to always want...Fargodome/Alerus, UND hockey/proposed NDSU hockey, NDSU D1/UND D1, the betty/proposed downtown fargodome area/remodel of BSA, and the list goes on. I bet that if Grand Forks gets a waterpark or casino, Fargo will be all over it seeing how they can get the same or one up GF. I propose this as someone born in Fargo raised in GF, I have been thinking about this for awhile. I Hate Fargo , mainly because of NDSU, but they are only one hour away and alot alike (yeah I know Federov not really alot of apts and restaurants in Fargo). A lof of UND fans live in Fargo, infact the times I go to Fargo, i count the UND/NDSU references and UND usually comes out ahead, believe it or not. PCM made a good point, in that Fargo benefits from 2 interstates connecting there. Personally I love Bismarck, great rolling hills, Abe Lincoln St Park, the "tame" Missouri Jet Skiing on it, etc. I seriously think there is something GF could learn from Fargo regarding business development, and alot of GF City Council members don't like to admit that. Hopefully someone can set me straight. End Rant.....for NOW (A few more capital words and I can be just like SIOUXMENOW..haha JK ....few more periods I can be like SiouxGoo...haha..Anyone guess my signature posting style yet??? ) I want to know what my Sioux family thinks. Take it away star2city, one of my favorite posters. I gotta go Wifeswap is on.

The reason they don't put it behind tabulas is because of the traffice/accessability issues.

Call me crazy, but I don't see a parking problem on campus. Of course everything can be approved upon, but the only problem I see is parking close to campus. The New REA lot never seems to be overflowing. It seems a little far, but only in respect to other buildings and parking lots on campus, still easily within walking distance.

Interesting but off topic. In Montana you can still drink and drive. Not drive drunk, but chug a beer while driving to the lake.
-
Sorta like the Sioux hockey teams, but reversed. The Sioux teams preseason national poll usually have them near the top (10). Regardless of recorders etc, they seem to up there. Whether you agree or not, polls are generally based on historical success at the national level. The UND Men's basketball program has little of that.

Until they (University Station) learn that they could have higher profits if they keep their prices the same as everyone else at 5-10 cents more.

I believe the Betty would be able to hold 6,000(?) if they bought bigger end zone seats. There seems to be plenty of room for it to my untrained eye. Now that would be awesome to see. I still wish they had bought some sort of video replay boards/screens.
-
It does seem odd that you would contact UND administators and tell them that there was someone on a message board that was spreading rumors about Greene failing a field sobriety test. It looks like I was right, they were ice fishing. They musta been pounding them to stay that late. (Yes the pun was intended)
-
My guess would be ice fishing. Warroad is close to popular Zipple Bay et al on Lake of the Woods, which could also be the reason he was drinking.

You got me! It is indeed a the dreaded olympic rink.

No, it's not another, "I miss standing" & "The atmosphere." But what are the small things that you miss? The smell, being crowded in the concourse, being able to walk around the arena (goal laps)? One of the small things I miss is the Nachos loaded with cheese. The best part was at the end of the row you got to add all the jalapenos you could eat. Me and my buddies would load up and make our mouths burn. 'Tis was tradition. Good Times.
