Me and Lefty will be tearing it up down in Winona, or should I say Lossona or Whineona... I know, I know...horrible joke.

I can see both sides of this issue. Diggler is exactly right. It shouldn't be law. If I own a restaurant and I smoke and I want my patrons to smoke and they want to smoke the law should allow that. But with that said... Times are a changing. People now know how "bad" first and second hand smoke is. Cars don't need to come with ash trays & cigarette lighters anymore (notice how the "cigarette lighter" in your car is no longer a lighter, but a plug in without a cigarette logo). No longer is it okay and casual to smoke like it was in the '60s, when everyone did it and the health effects weren't widely known. It is simply polite and easy to go outside when you want and need a cigarette. It might be what it takes to get a few people to quit and that is definately a good thing. In another fifty years, even fewer percentage of people will smoke and no one will even notice when the entire country is smoke free cause they won't care.
-
Again..... by "entire city" do you mean GF & EGF OR Bars should be smoke free along with all public places?
-
By whole city do you mean GF & EGF? Cause right now GF is smoke free, hence CRR saying Bonzers business was hurt because of the ban...apparently people for the past month did indeed quit going there because they couldn't smoke inside.

I think you're wrong. I believe he went to Wisconsin. from Sioux Illustrated:

How do you know so much about UND from Chicago?
-
This is somewhat two totally different issues. A casino would most likely bring "new" money into the community, not take away from others. A patron at Southgate/El Roco who goes there to drink and play a few hands at blackjack isn't now going to go to the Casino instead. It would easily be offset by having the casino give a portion of the proceeds to charitable gaming.

UND *alerus center* game day DO and MUST DO

You can take a beer to your seat and watch the game. -
Here's a news flash. The next generation of people don't care about "downtowns." They like space, they want a big yard, they want to live in the 'burbs. They want to live next to Universities, Alerus Centers, and "new" shopping centers next to new houses. That is why you see people moving south (in GF). In many (smaller) cities the downtowns will probably die, because it just doesn't mean that much to people as it use to. They didn't grow up with it as the economic center of a city.

Your sources? The GF Herald clearly states:
-
First of all, realistically the Casino will probably never be built. The city of Grand Forks and UND are a seperate entity. UND is huge for the city but it is not the only thing. Maybe UND has to much pull in Grand Forks, and at certain times it hinders GF's growth in certain aspects. A minor example is every year Grand Forks gives money to UND for recruitement etc, but a couple years ago I believe UND wanted more (or just the same), and GF was like "thats ok you guys seem to be doing pretty good already, maybe that money can go to lower taxes or repair roads." A larger Grand Forks would mean a larger enrollment, more fans at football, hockey, and basketball games for UND. BTW, my mom works at UND.
-
I would hope some people should be able to put there personal differences aside and look at the big picture, act like adults, and do what is best for the city. Bringing a Casino to town would probably be greater for UND than any nickname.

You realize that by 2011 all the tankers will be gone and so will 3,000 direct jobs.
-
Any one heard what the system is going to be this year?
-
So this will affect GF more than the flood of '97?
-
So basically because SDSU & our rival, NDSU did it. Kupchella put it best, Does anyone really think there would be all this talk about the Big Sky if NDSU was committed to division 2. If NDSU didn't move the DAC would probably reconsider moving to D2.

Here's a late thought. Maybe JESUS,family, rutgers is good luck. Championship game he's first year as a fan. Welcome aboard. I hope the friends and family are fans too.

I'm going to assume Mr. Buning is a fairly smart person. I'm going to guess he already knew that "Fighting Sioux" was going to be controversial. He probably has the internet and probably did some sort of research before he applied for the job....probably was aware of the Division I issue, heck maybe he stumbled upon this site. Maybe Buning himself wants UND to go Division I. I'll play the NDSU fan. Why now? Scholarships haven't been reduced anymore recently. Division 2 schools have been jumping to Division 1 for some time now along with NAIA and Division 3 schools joining Division 2. Why the big push?

Maybe that baseball player is a hockey, football, basketball, and volleyball fan. And them having nice facilities is the reason he wants to play baseball for the Sioux and surprise certain people. Having nice facilities athletic and nonathletic all over campus helps recruiting (athletes and non athletes). But obviously no kid is going to play baseball for the Sioux JUST BECAUSE the other teams have nice facilities.

They let you drink for a while....say 40-60 minutes, before they start to force you to get out of the parking lot. I guess that's why I never noticed the traffic problem before.

Higher up? Two/Three feet? That's be 700 feet away from the lake.

Quoting a list of NCAA hockey players on Canada's roster doesn't prove anything. There were 40 . What does that prove. That doesn't mean anything to me (and others). What makes you think there shouldn't have been 50-60 but Canada passed on them because they were playing for the NCAA and decided to pick someone else. So I guess the sports writter was making stories up?!

I quoted the part from the article. http://siouxsports.com/forums/index.php?sh...indpost&p=81198
