Isn't what I am proposing basically what started the Big Sky? Two border states: UM, MSU, Idaho, ISU. Then they added a couple close schools in Gonzaga and Weber St all in 1963. If it was good enough for them
-
Yeah doesn't UND need the Fargo market? Lots of NDSU home football games are broadcast statewide on NBC, They also "own" the GF market. Forum owns the Herald and WDAZ. UND doesn't even get its own weekend news tv broadcasts anymore (they pipe in WDAY). Hopefully they don't cut WDAZ even more!

See this type of "differentiation" I could get more behind. Get these teams and I won't remember what I just wrote.
-
No disrespect taken. I love your insight. My only question does the UND administration agree with you. They have to write the checks. I believe they would like a more tighter footprint. Most athletics lose money? So where does that "extra" money come from? academics? the credit card? Isn't sports mainly about attendance? Mainly football and basketball? NDSU is a football first school. They will get the fans no matter what. Where UND seems to be struggling. UND needs a rival to get fan interest kick started again. I believe it really is a race to FBS. UNDs greatest long term benefit would be build that stadium and really differentiate itself. We could get the whole state behind us and draw many out of staters for each football game like hockey. I think this would really excite the fan base. But unfortunately UND is basically stuck in FCS for the next twenty years or more thanks to the Alerus. Whereas NDSU was ready yesterday. Its really only a matter of time before the Montana schools leave. Then UND is really an outlier. If the Dakota schools were in the Sky it might keep the Montanas in the Sky longer and possibly move to FBS together?
-
I am sure that will change with a six team league (half the number of the teams in their current conference.)
-
Fans on both sides don't wanna admit it, but your right. All 4 Dakota schools "need" each other. They need to be the core members of a conference - an all sports conference. Then they get to choose the schools "they" want. Just need to take over a conference: Big Sky. Could have six flagship schools in the dakotas and montana. NDSU can be the first to move. Then when Sac St and Cal Davis leave for FBS ball the SD schools can join.

Why would the MVC wanna do that? All their members are happy.

UND/SCSU fan social set for Saturday, October 29th
Cratter replied to Dave Berger's topic in Men's Hockey
What do these socials entail? I went to check one out at southgate, but not knowing what to expect arrived late. Everyone was sitting down in the corner listening to someone. Opps, missed that boat. -
Now if we can sign a home and home contract with Minnesota, UND will be sitting pretty. Good thing UND is changing the name otherwise Wisconsin wouldn't have scheduled upcoming games? Wait...they already played our basketball team.
-
We best beat these cellar dwellers!
-
I think this would be a perfect time for the Alerus to have a meaningful basketball game. Whats the guest on attendance 4-5,000?
-
Not even in 15 years? Creighton won't allow it? UNO will be playing their games in the 9,300 seat Omaha Civic Auditorium following in Creightons footsteps.
-
And it has only been around since the 80's. Everyone wants out of the Summit. I think they should rename it the Great West Conference . NDSU fans have wet dreams over the MVC (but who wouldn't?) If I am a NDSU I hate the fact that Omaha is in the summit. They are the next team that would probably get into the MVC. Large city. Current rivalry with Creighton. Basketball is there main sport like other MVC schools. Come on NDSU. Let's put our pasts aside and come to the Sky. We welcome and want you. Trade the bunnies and jacks for the Griz and 'Cats.

Major Juniors seems like they lack ethics. But who can blame them. They are losing great players to the NCAA like never before so they have to do something to protect their product before they become ancient history.
-
But her personality grew on them. They are extremely happy now!
-
Lots (a group) of Cal Poly fans at Joe Blacks tonight.
-
The dynamics of the sports fan changed after the Ralph was built. It put UND hockey on a whole new level in Grand Forks. NDSU & football took a back seat to the average sports fan like never before.
-
Was hockey playing that day at home?
-
UND doesn't make any money on televising games. At least thats what a herald article use to say.

Call me crazy, but Kelley just did the opposite he was trying to do. He is telling the world we have such a alcohol problem we need to not show people drinking beer on the big screen. The average fan did/doesn't know UND had an "alcohol problem" unless they searched for it/read some study done, but now Kelley is pointing it out/reminding everyone. Then some student fills out those US new and world report survey, and the light bulb goes off in their head..."oh yeah that right we do have a alcohol problem. I remember reading about that in the Herald...check!" If you want to increase the number of students applying to your school being known as a party school would probably help.

Here is what we are going to do. Anytime anyone is on the big screen we are going to proudly hold up our beer in honor of Beer Grandma and in dishonor of Kelley.
