Also beat the Wiscosin Badgers in the Kohl Center this year....including having a 6 - 1 lead at one point! Michigan Wolverines needed overtime to beat them.
-
Nick Fohr brought kids under 18 to the Ralph and beat Brad Berrys team last year (#4 in the country at the time...Jackson Blake era) Similar to Kalen Deboer bringing Sioux Falls football to the Alerus and winning. Fohr also beat other NCAA programs that year including whipping BU. But UND football passed on Kalen, because he wasn't a "UND guy."
-
Young. One of the nation's best. Grand Forks native. Hockey family. Took high school kids and beat college programs. Way better than any "UND family member!"
-
Schlossman actually does work and has contacts though. Miller just regurgitates what he reads online.
-
I'm thinking Nick Fohr! Bases on my excellent head hunting skills (google searches.) He's easily #1!
-
And a GF native? Sold!
-
Go after the best CHL or USHL head coach?
-
So only question is which UND family member will be coaching UND hockey next year?
-
Feom the article:
-
Hopefully not Dane Jackson.

More like a fun Google search with opinions, right or wrong. But I also love glorified message boards. So yeah siouxsports and chaptgpt for the win!
-
He was a UND assistant coach for 8 years. But yeah, nowadays it seems even our assistant coaches need to former UND players.
-
Even chatgpt known UND is known for the good ol boys club. It said Brett Larson would be a good hire.
-
Meh. North Dakota has plenty of cities that have indoor ice for their high school hockey teams.
-
Has college hockey ever been broadcast on "over the air National TV?" FCS has more schools. And higher attendance. It clearly has a bigger following than college hockey. Nearly 2 and a half million watched NDSU win the natty this year. I don't think hockey natty was ever broke the one million mark.
-
And let's be honest, college hockey is so irrelevant in the national picture there isn't enough interest/teams to even have a "second tier." Only 60ish D1 schools. The same amount of teams in March Madness. And there's no D2 hockey, so "second tier sport schools" get to play "first tier hockey" only because of lack of national interest.
-
This is also similar to my experience in Key West last week. "Oh yeah we've heard of NDSU." There's really no doubt NDSU football has much higher national profile than UND hockey. Saw the other day Jon Gruden had a NDSU picture hanging on his hallway wall.

Current DU head coach: been there for 5 "NCAA tournament years".... Who's currently 35 Years old....has already had.... 3 Frozen Four appearances. 2 National Championships. That's my grade "A" and a "program builder"... ...just like (it seems) every NDSU Football coach who they hire.
-
OK you rate him an A. I reserve that type for guys who win more than one Frozen Four game in game in 11 Years (and never winning a FF game after year one) but that's just me. Theres no hypotheticals in these scenarios. We have 11 years of actual Hakstol data to show what he can do as UND head coach. He literally never "built the program to higher grounds (in peak data points)." ......follow me for more as we talk more about the "mean, median, and mode" for those who fell asleep through statistics class.
-
DU = NDSU Football. DU since 2004....first new head coach hire since new Ralph was built: 5 National Championships....UND 1 Our rivals been kicking our ass for multiple decades across lotta sports! Those are "A" programs who keep building even after coaching changes. Which UND, for whatever reason, does not have.
-
Cratter would easily make the frozen four. 1) Krissy engelstad...I need to borrow some money. 2) "vegas's finest" fly in on recruiting weekend 3) "pretend you're a normal college girl who's really interested in these men" 4) Cratter never lost a recruit, even to ASU! Times change but human behavior never does: Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll!

For context Hakstol was, I believe, 46 his last year coaching UND. Berry (hopefully his last year coaching UND) is currently 59 years of age. Age matters.
-
Hak's grade was about a B. Berry is like a D. But times have also changed. We don't know the long run of the breakup of the WCHA and the introduction of the NIL (& lesser extent social media). Berry could be struggling because of these (especially NIL). Or his age and the game/recruiting has left him behind. We all crave an "A" coach like Blais was though. That's my point: When will we actually get a program building coach, Hak nor Berry has been that guy.
