It is odd. It's not like these schools (NDSU or UND) can't afford another $100,000 a year for their head coach(es). Pay Bubba S and the men's basketball coach another $100,000 a year each. The athletic department can't afford another $200,000 a year? They are now not having to pay a few expensive sports or coaches they did a few years ago. I can't believe how little NDSU pays its mens basketball coach. Especially for being the #2 sport on campus.

All the next guy or gal has to do is not piss off donors or call the state racist, and they'll be ahead of the game! Kennedy set the bar pretty low for the next president.

NDSU head coach, Dave Richmond, agreed to $190,000 base salary contract when he signed it in 2014.

Meant 40th to 50th spot. 50th is new conference mate in SDSU at $300,000. Essentially the top dog in Summit league. 40th coach also has a UND connection (And why I picked those two spots). *yes the numbers are a few years old. The link to USA today has the new numbers....big drop off after the major conferences...and some big differences within the major conferences too.

Big jump from the 40th spot to the 50th spot. Only need to pay $300,000 to be the 50th highest paid coach in D1 mens basketball.

Preferably good lower level head coach record and/or DI assistant coaching experience. As others have pointed not a fan of someone learning to be a head coach for the first time.

Lots of shots from the audience but the board is a hot goalie right now. Not enough to get past. Mark Kennedy is going to win this one.

Where are the other finalists now: Steve Weemer went on to coach boys High School basketball and is no longer in coaching. Randall Herbst kept climbing the ranks and is now associate head coach at UW Green Bay. Tom Brown went from associate head coach at Winona State to head coach at D2 West Texas A&M. Will they make a Masters Degree a requirement ("preference") again to apply?

Trip down SS memory lane.

Everyone in 2006: Craig Smith! Great coach at Mayville. UND: Not even a finalist. Fast forward to 2019 and Craig Smith is head coach at Utah State. Leads them to their first March Madness appearance in eight years in his first year there. Similar circumstances with the recent hiring of the UND football coach....why is the obvious so hard?

I don't think the new guy will make much more. Bubba S. at UND makes base $200,000. Jones was at $140,000.

In comparison Brad Berry makes $400,000 base. Illinois States mens basketball coach is the highest paid coach on their campus.

Illinois State of the Missouri Valley pays it's current head coach over $500,000 a year base salary. Brian Jones might make the same or get a pay raise to be the an assistant there.

So it's fair to say: Shaw losing his job at UND was just bad luck for him.

Atmosphere could easily increase ten fold overnight but no one really wants too. Cause they love money so much. Move all the students to the lower bowl and allow alcohol in all the seats. "Increased atmosphere" is just lip service at this point.
