This has been a cluster from the beginning. The fact that Sundogs remains as a viable option disqualifies the process in my eyes. It's unfortunate that Dr. Kelley has decided to retire and this is not yet resolved. But, that should not force him to pick a lesser name from these remaining choices just to pick a name. Committees bring forth "crappy" options (choices, candidates, etc.) all the time in academia and business. It wouldn't be the first time leadership recognized the quality of choices (or candidates) and rejected them all and reconvened a committee. I'm less concerned with throwing it in the lap of the next UND president than getting the "right" name, whatever that may be. Blow it up and try again.

The inference has been made on this board before, as well as today, that players may leave if they don't win position battles. Are those young men strong enough athletes (mentally and physically) to make a position change and contribute to UND football? I understand it is early yet and lots can happen, but is that even a possibility?

At the end of the day, you get the BEST candidate that applies for the position. If it's one of those guys, so be it. What shouldn't be done is hire one of them just because you're afraid of losing recruits. Retaining them as assistants should go a long ways to keep finicky recruits and their parents from jumping off ledges, though that shouldn't be a requirement either. That said, the new coach should have the ability to hire his assistants. These guys are still committed recruits and the new coach's job will be to make sure they remain as such.

Because time and time again this coaching staff has shown that it doesn't recruit the stat sheet alone. Sometimes "decent kids" are still available this late in the recruiting winds for reasons other than hockey.

And, if that is the case, how does preparing (training) for the next level not help this team? Name one person on this past UND team that was there for themselves and not the team. An awful lot of pompous posting from someone that never played competitive sports in these threads. For some of you that are so disgusted by the outcome of the game last Thursday and what you have perceived as a pattern for the program, I don't understand why you put yourself through the continued anguish of being a fan of a team that keeps letting you down. After all, you deserve a championship. If it takes moving on, then move on.

Real role players like the walk ons that were two of the captains for UND this year? Can you also point out the #1 prima donnas on UND's team? Our fan base is so unbelievably spoiled.

Too business-like? Thus, too focused? So what's the suggestion? Optional practices and no curfew?
