OK, then I think we're mostly agreeing. The P5 will do what they do how they do it (namely, on their terms). Once that happens comes the open conversation at the schools that would consider moving.

I've been to the UC and, gee, the Blackhawk's logo is plastered all over the place, and, yet, the NCAA will play their premiere hockey finale in that arena with that logo plastered all over everywhere (ala the REA). I thought that genre of logo was "hostile and abusive" (Native related) and the NCAA would not use such a venue for one of their events.

I said this a while back about the UND nickname: You'll know the instant the nickname is a net negative to UND because that's the instant it goes away. Re-organize the existing department? Maybe cut some existing programs to free up/reallocate some scholarship dollars on the men's side? Pres. Schafer has said all the actions he is taking is to make sure UND can be free to make strategic moves later. I could live with, heck, I'd be happy cutting sports down to the core BSC requirements plus M/W hockey if it allowed for long-term strategic moves.
