    In both documents linked here (2014 and 2015 numbers) I see a consistent pattern: All expenses related to use of Engelstad Arena are attributed to Men's Hockey. The other users of the complex (WIH, MBB, WBB, VB, and Soccer) have no facilities expenses. I include soccer because I do believe they have locker room space in there.

    I'll let an Aero, or Med, or Soc professor, who has done their due diligence on the subject of Athletics, sit on the IAC. That shows me they care and want to be there and do their best for UND. But what I've seen so far says that is not the case. Quite frankly, however, if we were looking for best objective decisions on programs and fiscal matters, the committee should've had more engineering and business/accounting representation. Stereotyping? Heck yes.

    No it wouldn't have. You didn't like Rough Riders because of no ND ties. I don't see a lot of silverbacks from Sterling or Steele. You'd have failed it just for that.

    Today's smile when the alarm clock kicked on: The KFGO morning folks (Bonnie and Doug, Tom Wynn was off today) commenting on Jack Michael's sharp Fighting Hawks shirt and how good he looked in it as he's flying with the team. Better? Bonnie commenting that she didn't have any Fighting Hawks gear yet and her daughter goes to UND so she'd better get some now having seen this.

    OK, endowment for M Golf: They need about $75k annually to operate (based on '17 and '18 values). Assume a 5% ROR on the endowment and that means they need to raise about $1.5 million to endow men's golf.

    I was going to point out that comparisons between deals is useless without all the details. Otherwise we're comparing apples and eggs.

    What happened Saturday is exactly what I feared: Spend tons of energy in the afternoon session and come up just short. That was the set-up to lose the night session. If they'd have been blown out and saved energy early Saturday I see them bouncing back late. If they'd have spent the energy and won early Saturday I'd have seen momentum to a sweep on the day. Instead, read the first line.

    I believe the "why a conference" and "DII" questions were straight up out of pure ignorance. Those folks probably got kudos from their academic cohorts for looking so obtuse. I say that because the IAC is supposed to be watching out for the University's interests regarding Athletics. To be where we are today tells me the IAC has been doing nothing as far as oversight. Why does that normally happen? The overseers have no idea what they are looking at or what to be looking for. As I said, it'd be like putting Blackheart and Mafia on the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

    This problem can be solved objectively by people with the right information. I just sent Kennedy a very polite email asking him to, based on the IAC's exhibited bufoonery, put together a real and substantial group of willing and motivated people truly interested in the betterment of University of North Dakota Athletics to objectively review the salient data and make solid recommendations. The time for "do we need a conference" nonsensical dialogue is not now.

    What do I think? Well, you've already read that I'm so-so on the name but given that the logo exceeded my (admittedly low) expectations. What I will say is this: I do enjoy waking up every morning and not waiting for the other shoe to drop. It seemed there was always the next story, blog, article, opinion thrashing UND about the old nickname. That's gone. Tthe "advocacy journalists" now have to find some other group to harangue.

    Allow me slightly different POV on the IAC: The IAC is supposed to be monitoring Athletics for the University and the Universtiy Senate. But monitoring takes people who have a clue about what they are looking at. Sorry, but I'm not putting Goon and Oxbow on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission just like I wouldn't put someone that asked such questions as today's on the IAC. If you're going to be on a committee or board at least have a clue when you walk in the door or recuse yourself to someone who does have a clue and a willingness to be there. Those questions say to me they aren't even minimally qualified to be serving.

    Yes. I get that. But I'd still like to see the basis, the numbers, behind it. Otherwise it's just a number.

    Where's that $4 million number coming from? Worst case scholarships (63 --> 85) is 22 times 2 (title IX) for 44. At $20k per that's $880k. What else? Coaches? OK, double the current numbers. What else? NDSU and UND both have the FBS minimum sport sponsor ship (16) so that's done. Maybe add a few more women's scholarships for extra Title IX insurance? And ... ... ... I'm getting about half your number at worst. What am I missing?
