I'm glad Miami showed up against SCSU. I figured UND would be fired up to go to "The Ralph: Omaha Edition". But they would also be primed for a let down coming home from there. Instead, Miami just put themselves firmly on the radar. UND now has no reason to look past Miami.

UND Football is in a position where they know they know they left a lot of good things on the table. That should tell them: (a) they're on the right path because those good things were there, and (b) there's more hard work to be done to get where they want to be. Allow me to clarify ...

Actually, it would help the schools with something more than a scholarship to offer (tradition, facilities, path to the next level) but it would hurt the overall game.

Right now it's "five years to complete four seasons of play". Why not change it to "four seasons of play to be completed before the player's 24th birthday". Keep the definition of "season of play" the same*. It takes all the appeals and scenarios out of play: Mormon mission? Get your four seasons in before 24. Zach Arenell scenario? 2015 doesn't count (<30%), but how old is he? That'd determine if he can play in 2017. *Participation in 30% or more of a team's games with none of the participated in games in the second half of the team's scheduled season.

I'm pretty sure that is the difference.

So he was at SBCC for three years (one of them a redshirt per his SBCC coach) before UND. He played in three games in 2015. He played 2016. So he did take a redshirt year at SBCC. That probably tipped the NCAA to "no".

These days you buy new kicks from Amazon and they are drone delivered while you tweet at (and Facebook stalk) that breezy honey you want to meet up with at Starbucks or Panera. I wondered about Claeys when he came out in support of the players and their boycott. When the report was "leaked" and it was that bad and the team backtracked, I knew Claeys was jammed up bad. He'd basically stuck a finger into the eye of the UM administration. Seems he got a boot in the < bleep > for it.

You covered the three areas Bubba brought up and there are obvious things in motion in each of those areas. You hit the area (LB) that he didn't bring up but that should seem to be a concern. Does Schmidt have some guys ready in the wings to step in and up?

Jost may well leave after this season; he has the raw hockey talent for that. However, he would be well served to stay and let his body develop for one more season. He's not the biggest guy out there and the wear will have an effect.
